I was surprised by this when it happened. But there's something I like about it. And I usually hate commercials. That something is, of course, Bob Dylan....something in his eyes and his voice...and the fact that he has always had a deep love for Americana in the sense of the old American that once was, the America of his youth. It's almost completely gone now, and is probably gone forever. The same thing has happened in most other nations too. People who have forgotten their own history are lost.

@@georgecoventry8441 He has aged A LOT in seven years. To paraphrase one of his songs, "He looks nothing like that." @georgecoventry8441
3 жыл бұрын
@@ferociousgumby - Yeah, he has aged greatly. Being a lifelong smoker can do that to a person, specially to their face! I also think he's a patriot at heart. I was puzzled at the time as to why he'd do a Superbowl ad...he certainly doesn't need the money. But it doesn't concern me that much. I so much appreciate all the songs he's given us, that I don't worry about the rest. You know, Dylan didn't regard himself as being a representative of "the counterculture", although the counterculture wanted to select *him* as their hero or their "prophet". His cultural roots were in the 50's, not the 60's. It's the teen years that really establish a person's cultural foundation for the rest of their life, and Bob Dylan was already 20 by 1961. His formative years were most affected by stuff that happened before the 60's had even arrived, and I wouldn't say he considered himself a representative of the Beatnik movement either. Rather, his strongest links were to people like Hank Williams, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and James Dean....much more the cultural mainstream of that time rather than the Beat phenomenon. But the counterculture LOVED Dylan....and so they regarded him as their own. He didn't think so.

A dumb one...
NOT BOB DYLAN...BUTBA DECENT LOOK-ALIKE...
As a Canadian, I just found this very humorous. America is patriotic lol. Bob Dylan is of my favorites though, so cool add 😂
I wonder how much they paid Bob Dylan to make this commercial

Yeah, it's funny how many people seem to think "Ford invented the car". It was Benz, still commemorated in Mercedes-Benz, and as usual Ford swiped his best ideas and made a gazillion dollars.

well definitely not Chrysler...the company is being internally destroyed
The commercial has a ton of cringing and awkward things about it. I so wanted it to be better, like the kid you root for in a baseball game and he keeps striking out. But the tone and theme was good, it just needed work it didnt get.

If Dylan was talking about Gibson guitars built in Nashville, this ad would been cool. But the product quality of the US auto industry doesn’t back up all this brash talk about American Pride.

@@SamWesting Good comment and I get you. Actually, the only thing that can be said about american cars is the creation and export of car culture which is still pervasive. As to more individual products where pride is concerned, see if you can find the Zippo video on this topic made by its president. I really felt pride and patriotism in that one. There are others too.
Great ad. The car unfortunately…. They should have spent the money on the car, not ballyhoo. They should build the engines and the rest in USA instead of South America and Mexico. Sorry Chrysler, you used to be great.
Americans need to keep buying American cars, built by American people, or you won't have a motor industry. Trust me. I'm from the UK and we've lost all of it. Oh yes, the Japanese build cars here. Foreign companies own what was British. But the profits don't stay in the UK.
Oh man, this is painful to watch. What a load of crap. How much he get for it? Better than Clooney's Nespresso swag?

I was surprised by this when it happened. But there's something I like about it. And I usually hate commercials. That something is, of course, Bob Dylan....something in his eyes and his voice...and the fact that he has always had a deep love for Americana in the sense of the old American that once was, the America of his youth. It's almost completely gone now, and is probably gone forever. The same thing has happened in most other nations too. People who have forgotten their own history are lost.

@@georgecoventry8441 He has aged A LOT in seven years. To paraphrase one of his songs, "He looks nothing like that." I found it awkward that he'd go all American on us - so much for the counterculture, Beats, etc. This was commerce over art. I think he really is a patriot at heart, though I can't see him flying Confederate flags.

Sell out. Did he really need the money? Doesn't particularly fit his image either. A car corporation and a poet?

Bob Dylan does what he pleases. A few years ago, rather than interview for the rolling stones, he did an interview with AARP. The last thing you'd expect a musician to do, that's what he does. Car commercials are no exclusion. He must've been bored.
