    Joe Lazarus I think Chris is in a whole ‘nother league than the fine gents you mentioned. For one, they were almost always the lead in the movie. Chris tends to shine in character roles. The only other character actor with his range of talent was probably John Cazale, who died way too young. Had Cazale lived, he almost surely would have won an Oscar. Just a brilliant actor.

  • @brettsinger9565

    @brettsinger9565

    @peter studios Just to unpack your post on this, at first you compare comic book movies to the best movies of the 1970s. That's dishonest deck-stacking and it displays an imperfect understanding of cinema at best. And if you're honestly saying you didn't even like Parasite then I don't know what else to tell you, other than say, watch movies with a more open mind. Sometimes we love one era in cinema more than another. But keep in mind that a lot of the revered films of the past do all kinds of things that would get them eviscerated by critics if they had been released today. Films released in our era come under a more challenging microscope because of the past films they get compared against and that is why they should be judged fairly.

  • @brettsinger9565

    @brettsinger9565

    @peter studios We're only talking about one film at this point. Let's not get too scattershot. The bottom line is that the films of the 2010s and nowhere near as bad as you make them out to be. Just like the films of the 1970s are not as flawless or as timeless as you might wish to believe. Every era has its good and its bad. I like my older films just as much, but I don't lionize them or elevate them at the expense of everything that came afterward.

The directors had guts (to do things in their own way) and the actors were of the generation that stripped away elements of cliche & caricature to deliver authentic performance. With the centralization of studio power over the last 25 years, we may never again see such a decade of sheer creativity and artistry in film.

    What is most important about this video is that it reminds one of the fact that Christopher Walken is a legitimate actor. His acting skills have been muddled by lazy comedies ("Balls Of Fury"), eccentric caricatures ("The Stepford Wives" remake) and random cameos ("Gigli," anyone?). Even the "Cowbell" sketch from SNL has lost it's magic due to it being quoted constantly (that's my opinion, so don't crucify me). That being said, this man is amazing. Whether he's the tragic man who is cursed to see others futures like in "The Dead Zone," or the semi-sane dog-napper from "Seven Psychopaths," or the brutal gangster from "King Of New York," or seeing him square off with Dennis Hopper in "True Romance." My point is Christopher Walkens a damn good actor.

    Christopher Walken displayed grace, class, and elegance in accepting his much deserved award. It's a pity to see how low-class the Oscars have become today. I'm sure there was tension and dislike among some of the actors even back then, but they had enough class to put their feelings aside for one night.

    Agree with you. As with everything these days, it’s lost its lustre. May be it’s my age or maybe it never did have any lustre.
