@@VColossalV I was a lender to commercial businesses and larger corporations over my 2 decades in banking. Mar-A-Lago is not only a large estate, but is a private country club with ongoing operations. In order to make a loan, the FI first evaluates the risk profile of the borrower. I’d analyze the last 3-5 years of operations, cash flow size, ability to service debt, expected future cash flows, historical repayment, basically the credit risk. I’d require independent audited and reviewed financial statements from the operations of the borrower. Only after discerning the credit risk would I evaluate the value of the collateral, in several methods. I’d look at comparable properties, cap rates, how much to rebuild at current values for inputs. Certainly important is to have an independent RE appraisal for the Mar-A-Lago property. The bank did all that. It never matters what value an owner says something is worth - it’s irrelevant when I’m evaluating credit risk and collateral value in the case of default. Everyone in banking, M&A, lending, etc knows this. The trial is a farce.

@@sammg95 It's fraud because he would have had to pay more, were he honest about its value and the size of the property. Normal people don't get away with this and neither should a former president. The official valuations are online, the official Florida records. It was valued at 18 million a decade ago and has gone up in value slightly each year since. The reason for this is because it's not a residential property and is valued based on its earnings. If you were in any way informed on the matter and didn't just listen to right wing grifters lying to you, you may have known this.

@@VColossalVBanks don’t listen to the property owner when it comes to valuation. They employ their own specialists that do a market analysis to determine a fair market value. Nobody cares what the owner thinks the property is worth.

As a Marine Corps veteran I am so disappointed how twisted our government has become. We are the strongest nation in the world but our government is so corrupt we will crumble from within. Rome is failing and we are all spectators to the slow burn.

Just inherited my grandmother's house and 1 acre. It's probably worth 50k, I might sell it for 70k in this economy, but insurance tells me it's worth 125k. I don't see anyone suing insurance companies for overpricing homes to steal our money....TOTAL SCAM

You can't replace it for 70k. Insurance valuation is what it would cost if you hired a contractor to rebuild it. It may be an old house that isn't worth much but you can't build an old house.

The insurance company is saying that they will pay you 125K if your house were to be totally destroyed. But it’s a game. What are the odds of anything happening to this house? Probably slim. They increase the value so they can charge you more. But just like car insurance, you can say how much you want to insure your home.

@@eternalsun13 That's correct. Two differences though. One, they were not top secret documents, just classified. Top secret documents are the most secret and sensitive of classified information. Biden was not in possession of nuclear secrets. Second, Trump isn't only in trouble for taking them, he's in trouble for the actions he took when asked to return them, obstructive justice, lying to authorities and even lying to his own lawyers. That's where things get spicy. Biden complied with authorities immediately, Trump did not.

The United’s states government is a corporation, they call it a government for classification purposes. Think weapons manufacturing, they deal in death and munitions, no one charges them with accessories to murder, because it’s a corporation. Now it’s a business transaction not a personal transaction. The loans provided to Trump were based on the cash flow from operations as well as the property value of the residence/club. As every lender knows, there are several ways that these items will valued. Moreover the financial institution will have evaluated Trump’s risk and priced his loans based on that risk profile. It’s about the risk of the borrower, not the value of the collateral. The judge adjudicating Trump’s civil trial does not understanding lending. Even more, if the financial institution gave Trump favorable interest rates, there would be bank regulators all over their books. But they aren’t, because it is a normal loan.

Dude I’m the oldest of 6 boys and for years I’ve been the only conservative but these last four years have completely flipped my entire family into conservatives. It’s insane

My neighbor is 80 years old and technically extremely smart. He's a verified nerd and worked until he was 70 as an electrical engineer in circuit board design. Just because they indicted him doesn’t make him a criminal. Thousands of innocent men get indicted. If he wasn’t running for president again they would never attempt to go after him. If he dropped out of the race tomorrow those charges would disappear.

This is just how lending works. Nobody relies on the borrowers value estimate, anywhere in the world, at any bank that exists. Even in this case, they still did appraisals on the properties for Trump.

The judge saying a 114 room mansion is worth no more than 18 million dollars is insane. The building materials alone and renovations would over the years be that sum. Then there is the land value itself not accounting for the building. Today he could easily list it for $300 million. What Letitia James and Engoron did was a heist in broad daylight broadcast to the entire world. They quite literally, not figuratively stole nearly $500 million from him. If an appellate court uphold that ruling NY state is doomed. Who would do business in a state where the AG and a Judge can just end your company and steal your money "legally". No one was defrauded, no victims. So how can you have a trial with no victims.

A constitutional republic is an indirect democracy guided by the framework of a constitution. It’s still a democracy. The definition of a representative republic (which is what we are) is a body of lawmakers and leaders who are DEMOCRATICALLY elected by the constituents they represent. You literally learn this in high school.

It was valued as a social club, not a residence. Trump signed a deed agreeing to never sell it as a residence. You've probably never heard this because it's not convenient. That is why the valuation is what it is. That is the official valuation about a decade ago, but it's not a huge amount higher. Trump himself payed lower taxes thanks to this valuation. He knew it was worth that and exaggerated the value significantly, on purpose. That "palace" is also significantly smaller than was claimed by Trump, that's where it gets really sketchy. You can't just lie about the size of a property. This was also another reason he's in trouble.

Builder Here. Even I do it on a very small scale. I apply to the bank to get another construction loan for $300,000. The bank processes my application and hires a third party appraiser. They have me sign a document that says I understand the appraisal process and I get a copy. The appraisal comes back at $250,000 and the loan is active once we sign. Everybody shoots a pinch higher in order to settle.

Most people who aren't in real estate don't realize that the banks in this case were also legally required to assess the value of the property (which they did).

The thing is, value is subjective. There's no such thing as over or under valuing anything, it's completely up to the prospective buyer...or in this case the loaner.

When was mar-a-lago purchased and for how much?

Since when does a judge do real estate valuation.

What is “over valued”? The bank will decide what it is willing to lend on the deal. NO one else needs to chime in. Certainly not the government ffs

The value of what the bank will lend on depends on what its appraised at by a 3rd property appraiser. Dodd-Frank act established this

There is a big difference between 400m inflated over 300m actually value which is rough 1.3x inflated value. Mar-La-Go was roughly inflated to 700m which the actually value is about 70m which is a 10x inflated value. Normal real estate deals usually are rougly anywhere between 1.2x to 3 -4x inflated value and depends on the surrounding area real estate value as well.
