Even Hitchens himself would not be able to re-do this presentation any better than the first time around. Truly remarkable.

I find playing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in the background while Christopher Hitchens speaks, sounds really really deep and soothing

@321lawc Debating already is the way to raise awareness and "publicly push" for an issue to be changed. It must change in peoples minds before it can change in practicality.

@321lawc I agree. A feel the need to add that when I had found out when I was young that circumcision doesn't have any benefits whatsoever I was a bit confused as to why my parents had it done to me. I proceeded to ask them, and they said it seemed like the natural thing to do. I responded to them with remark of; what part of mutilating a babies genitalia seemed like the "thing to do". To this remark there was no answer.

Critics of Noam Chomsky, regarded as the father of modern linguistics, often attempt to marginalize him for weighing in on everything from political science and current events to history and economics which, supposedly, aren't his areas of expertise nor have anything to do with linguistics. I'm glad Christopher Hitchens points out the importance of language because it's relevant and matters... it shapes our perception of reality and our response to it.

Looks like a lot of nations haven't upheld the requirements of the convention then. Disappointing to say the very least.

@bettySwollox its quite interesting that a certain Dr Drew here in the states harps on about how drastically important it is to get snipped. what is strange is that he never explains the reasoning as to how he came to this adamantly proposed argument. in europe it is not as widely practiced, cheers from san diego

I had a long argument in KZread comments (not a good idea) with a person who argued that the Turkish state is actually not denying that it ever happens and that the Turkish are not being treated fairly in this case because of our racist ideologue against Muslims. Try to find out how many flaws you can find in that line of reasoning.

I continue to marvel at the strength with which human beings hold onto nonsensical belief systems. It would be one thing if they weren't told differently (I'm a recovering Catholic), but in light of clear evidence, it seems so childish. The fear of death is simply overpowering.

@Scofield0085 That's fine, so long as grown men choose to have it done to them. I was circumcised as a baby. I had zero say in the matter.

@321lawc Though there's nothing wrong with circumcision in and of itself; Only coerced circumcision, which almost always occurs within the context of religion.

@321lawc No one's spreading any "shit." I'm just pointing out what's generally accepted in the medical field. Whether you agree or not is your own prerogative. I certainly don't condone it, though I would insist that the decision rests entirely upon the individual...and not you or any priesthood.

@321lawc You know, being circumcised myself, I'd always regarded it as a practice that's quite normal, and one arisen from some supposed benefit to me (it was carried out on the advice of a doctor due to complications as a baby) and no doubt of benefit to others too. It wasn't until I heard the Hitch commenting on circumcision, that I found myself suddenly awoken to its barbaric nature, and its being an act (in a non-medical necessity arena) of quite atrocious invasion.

@321lawc The foreskin is removed for well known health reasons-in the case of men, but when it comes to women, there's no good reason why a woman should or would opt for this procedure. Either way, it certainly is repugnant for circumcision to be imposed on anyone, which is my whole contention.

I asked a doctor why we dont pull our teeth out to avoid tooth decay, and he said: Because you are meant to have teeth! and you can continue to have them if you practise proper hygiene. Then I asked him about circumcision, and he referred me to his previous point. No amount of amputating, extraction, slicing or dicing will prevent bacteria from forming. If you regard bronze aged superstition over modern science, be my guest, but dont subject your kids to such perverseness.

@jimmy27paul Its certainly true that men have had foreskins for thousands of years; of course they have...complete non sequitur on your part. I am simply stating that modern health studies have shown good health reasons/benefits as to why a man may opt for circumcision. Neither you or anyone has to agree with these health reasons. My argument is simply as follows: It is, or ought to be, within an individual's discretion whether they want to pursue the procedure. It should not be imposed.

@321lawc It would be nice if would could expect 14, 15 and 16 year old kids to be consistent responsible and use condoms. However, I just don't see this happening. Particularly, I don't see 3rd world inhabitants doing this, many of whom lack the education to make the choices you refer.

"They problem is that infant circumcision is without consent." This response is full of fail logic.. and need I to point out- grammatical errors. So am I to understand that one could obtain consent from an infant?

1st victim of P.C.cultural relativism is our freedom of speech, western civilization's gift born of the reformation, developed at much human cost.with our right to criticize islam quashed, mankind's greatest advances will be thrown backwards roughly 1000 years, to when slavery was practiced in every continent and the wheel considered leading edge technology. world populations can't be sustained without western methods- necessitating major die offs (any guesses who dies?)-there's much at stake

I'm 31 years old an i had it done two years ago when I started traveling to the Philippines because it was so hot an humid their but even though it's much easier to keep it clean it's not worth it , you are guaranteed to lose a bit of sensation ,more extended pleasure for her 10% less pleasure for you so it's kind of a trade off if you don't mind.
