    Thank you for such an amazing and helpful video! New to felting and my first attempt at the striped one was a hilarious fail. Luckily, felting seems pretty forgiving and I pulled it apart, put another layer of roving around the base ornament, and started over with the holly design. It came out great! I'm so excited to give these as gifts this year!

    I am new to this! Thank you for the video! I saw someone tie a knot or two with the white wool, and that gave the core a lot more dense to begin with! So many techniques!! Thanks again!! Love love love the ornaments! I think I am making these this year!

    Yes, there are many ways to make a ball! We all end up with a favorite way to make them I guess. Glad the video was helpful!

    How about making the ball wet felting...then add the patterns with needle felting? Can that be a alternative?

    You can also use poly fil in place of core wool right?

    Can you use the multi needle tool when flattening the felt?

  • @FeltedSky

    I use the multi needle tool for the initial sculpting of the ball to help that go faster. The finishing/smoothing and putting on the colored designs really needs to be done with a single needle to get the detail and placement right.

    Instead of making such large ornaments can you make ones of which are smaller?

    Sure, you can make whatever size you want. The technique is the same, just start with less wool.

    I find that markers and pens don't always write well on felt but you could try that with a sharpie. There are no hard and fast rules - just experiment and see what works for you!

    Would it not be more time efficient to wet felt the ball then needle felt on a design? This method seems incredibly laborious especially if you want to make enough to go on a Christmas tree!!

  • @FeltedSky

    I do not generally find wet felting to be a speedy process, but it is possible that it would be a little faster than needle felting the ball, and most especially if you wet felted your balls in the washing machine/dryer instead of by hand. Then it would definitely be faster. We do sell ornament balls now that are wet felted and this kit is getting redesigned in the next few weeks so that it has 4 of our pre-made balls instead of starting from scratch. Some people do want to know how to needle felt a ball and hone their sculpting skills this way. But most of us don't have the time for it, that is true!

    Everyone has a different felting speed. It depends some on how fast you poke the needle :) I would say that each ornament probably takes around an hour though, give or take.

    how do you add the string

  • @FeltedSky

    @FeltedSky

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is at minute 53 on the video - thread the string through a sewing needle. After you make the gray "ornament cap" you thread the string through that and then felt the ornament cap onto the ornament.
