The Christmas experience in Singapore is incomplete without the traditional annual light decorations along Orchard Road. However, in contrast, the 2023 Christmas celebrations are more glorious and spectacular than ever.
Titled "Christmas on A Great Street," the 40th edition of the annual Orchard Road Christmas light-up is set to come back this year (2023). In addition to the iconic dazzling lights providing excellent photo opportunities, this year's edition will introduce a Christmas Eve street party for the first time.
The annual illumination along Orchard Road is designed to coincide with the festive holiday season, attracting visitors to the renowned shopping district in Singapore.
To kick off "Christmas on A Great Street," President Tharman Shanmugaratnam presides over the Light-Up Ceremony at Shaw House Urban Plaza on November 16.
In addition to admiring the vibrant lights and dazzling decorations, visitors can immerse themselves in the holiday spirit with the inaugural Christmas Eve street party. Taking place on December 24, the street party spans from Paterson junction to Bideford junction, with affected roads closing to traffic from 6 pm onwards. The festivities unfold from 8 pm to 12:30 am.
Attendees can anticipate festive activities such as music band and dance performances, live Christmas carols, and Meet and greet sessions with Santa Claus. For those in need of refreshments during the festivities, the Christmas Market, filled with food trucks, is at their disposal.
Not only can visitors count down to Christmas Day at "Christmas on A Great Street," but they can also welcome the New Year (2024) as part of the celebrations.
Christmas just isn't complete without the enchanting allure of Christmas Villages. Making a return this year are the Great Christmas Villages, and visitors can anticipate an expansion to three satellite villages, a significant increase from the one in 2022.
Situated outside Shaw House Urban Plaza, Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, and Plaza Singapura, each Christmas Village boasts carnival rides, games, pop-up stores, and food and beverage kiosks, ensuring everyone stays entertained for hours.
The Christmas Village at Shaw House Urban Plaza will kick off the festivities on November 24, featuring an exclusive double-storey carousel and Ferris wheel. The other villages at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza and Plaza Singapura will commence on December 1 and 8, respectively.
Highlights at the Ngee Ann City Christmas Village include live performances by local musicians like Daniel Sid, LAYYI, and The Cold Cut Duo on Friday and Saturday evenings, arcade games, and a swing ride. Meanwhile, at the Plaza Singapura Christmas Village, visitors can experience pure joy in a bouncy castle and engage in hands-on craft workshops organized by Kiztopia.
