I love Christina's version of this and "Tough Lover". All lot of people put her down because she doesn't "sing properly" for a pop singer and overuses runs ("oversinging" isn't the right term to describe what she does as it actually means physical tension while singing, but it has been misused by diva stan channels to mean overdoing riffs and runs). But after listening to Etta James's versions of the songs mentioned, you can tell how much she has influenced Christina. I'm not a diehard fan of either of them, but Christina has influenced my singing style more than anybody else (it also could be because we're both Mezzos). I bet if she started out her professional career as a neo-soul or blues singer, she wouldn't be getting as much hate as she does where pop fans are obsessed with the so-called "perfect singing technique".
