Lyrics:
This is for my girls all around the world (Around the world)
Who've come across a man that don't respect your worth (Whoa)
Thinkin' all women should be seen not heard (Whoa)
So what do we do girls? Shout louder!
Lettin' 'em know we're gonna stand our ground (Stand our ground)
Lift your hands high and wave 'em proud (Whoa)
Take a deep breath and say it loud (Whoa)
Never can, never will, can't hold us down

Christina was so ahead of her time with that Stripped album. She touched on so many topics, feminism, sexuality, self-acceptance, rejection, abuse ect. that are still so relevant today.

You know, all of this was never an issue until a bunch of sjw idiots started crying about it everywhere. Now it's fuckign everywhere, and all on the daily agenda is diversity and fuck all. Diversity is only an issue when you make it an issue, if those idiots had let the world live, you would see there was no issue. As my man Morgan Freeman says: 'Stop talking about it. It won't be an issue if you stop talking about it. It exists because we talk about it.'

I'm just going to say it... People who don't like Christina are just wrong. Being a good musician isn't about having the most soothing timbre. It's about emotion and how well the singer can portray that. If you can't sense the emotion in her music then you're just wrong. Because it's there, and that's a fact.

The Critics just didn’t get this album as we did 🙄, Stripped has zero skips and this is not a song to skip.. 💅🏻
She was a feminist before it was "cool" to be a feminist, because belive it or not, it was extremely unpopular to be a feminist around the early 2000's and nobody, specially popstars, was really talking about these issues (which is shocking considering how strong the movement is nowadays). Maybe from todays perspective these aren't big statements but this video came about 20 years ago and things like slut shaming, harassing or double standards were much more common. Look at the HUGE sexist backlash her Dirrty video received, for example. She really took risks with this album and was clearly ahead of its time. Queen.

@@kazior6521 yes, we all know that, but that's not the point, actually we can say the same thing about Madonna...don't get me wrong but there is always someone who did something first...that's a story that never ends...nobody says Madonna didn't did many things for music, but we are talking about Christina, this is her vídeo, not Madonna's vídeo...but is always the same thing, when someone tells that his/her favorite artist did something, there is always someone with this type of comment..."no my favorite did it first"... I respect Madonna legacy, but Christina has her own legacy too!
@kazior6521
3 жыл бұрын
Dina Silva Madonna is not my favorite artist. Far from it. I’m just stating the facts. As you wrote, there’s always the first. Sticking with media it probably was Mae West way back in 20s and 30s. Probably someone before her too. The true sexual revolution, particular for women began in the 1960s and 1970s. The 1980s had TV characters like Blanche Devereaux and Dynasty’s Alexis Carrington. Although this song is a part of Christina’s legacy, stating she was one of the first to do something when it “wasn’t cool” is creating a false legacy and infringing upon others. Especially when this song was released right around the end of the series Sex and the City and it’s pro-sex feminist character Samantha Jones. BTW, I mean no disrespect or discrediting to Christina Aguilera.
People need to understand how badass this was back in the 2000's. She took on Eminem, a huge rapper, for making fun of her and Britney Spears. Britney handled it her way and was basically a lot quieter, probably not wanting to risk her career. Christina called him out with her music, and basically told him to shut up and called society for progress. It was huge at the time. Now it's cool to be a feminist.

TheDirtyVillain Who said anything about sluts? The way christina is promoting is no where near slutty. Christina is trying to promote women to stand up for themselves. It shouldnt be okay for a guy to just touch a girl because she was wearing shorts or revealing clothes. Guys can screw everything and they will get praise while women get called whores. So this has nothing to do with sluts. Your the one twisting it my friend.

Christina was always one of my favorite singers. She has the ability to make her songs a breathing and living version of reality. All her songs has a deep meaning behind them. They tell stories of the past, present, and the future about women of all age groups. Christina keep making beautiful songs, stay strong, and keep your head up girl. The world need more of your songs and keep being a role model for the new upcoming generations about the music industry. Also glad there was never a feud between you and Britney Spears.
She was well ahead of time. As a teenager I liked her music but never fully appreciated her lyrics. But as an adult her lyrics are true. As woman I have been abused by men and us women have to stick up for ourselves.
Gosh I never appreciated this song enough as a teen, but now as an adult and during current times, more relevant than ever, she really was ahead of her time.

@mizizshaquoya2740 basically, in 1999, on mtv, before the release of her album, she said she thought eminem was cute, but wasn't a fan of his lyrics depicting violence against women (she suffered abuse as a child). she also said eminem was married to kim, which was true, but em didn't like that she revealed that apparently. on the real slim shady the following year, eminem called her a bitch and spread a rumour that she gave two guys oral sex. he also claimed that he has done it with her and she gave him VD. "When a female fires back Suddenly big talker don't know how to act So he does what any little boy would do Makin' up a few false rumors or two"

Sound familiar? Every generation say the same stuff about the music the generations after them make. The simple answer is that you're not supposed to like the younger generations music. You CAN like it, but you're not the target audience, so if you don't like it... There you go. They make music for their own peers. They're not making music for their parents and grandparents. Do you think people in their 80's are huge fans of Wu Tang Clan? Do you think Ozzy Osbourne's grandparents thought the heavy metal music was amazing? If you go to a nursing home, do you think it's early 2000's music that the residents are listening to? The answer to all of those questions is probably along the lines of "hell no! Why would we listen to garbage when we can listen to (insert music from their own generation)?"

This song is iconic. I love the message that it sends
@martineshamzin7535

Back when she sang it it was a good message. Now we are stuck dealing with the fact that people discriminate against men, the school system favors girls over boys, suicide rate for all people under 30 is skyrocketing, men are sticking around to raise kids less, graduating from high school less, and the average American income, which used to afford buying a home, and supporting a spouse and a family now doesn't have the purchasing power of half that. We are going down a bad direction, and feminism along with intersectionality helped get us going down the wrong direction. Its nice to remember when I used to think I was a feminist though. Now its an ugly message of inequality, over sexualized children, and entitlement. Just think, we have people like Kathy Wood who can't pick a stock to save their lives with careers thanks to being female.

@@biokomalabo9468 what are you 2 talking about? she was probably a teenager when this came out, as I was and many others for whom this is so significant...so obviously we don't think she "invented music" but there weren't any other such songs at that time, nor would we really be aware of older songs, due to our ages. besides, I don't know of ANY other song before then that explicitly called out the sexism, double standards and misogyny of society as this one does, which is the real point.
To this day "Stripped" remains Christina's best album. One badass track after the other! I remember listening to it almost everyday back in 2003, being still a youngin... "Thinking all the women should be seen, not heard So what do we do, girls? Shout louder!!!" --> Spread the word!!!
