Oklahoma was proudly racist the day it became a state. Senate bill #1. Approved on December 18, 1907, Senate Bill One, also known as the coach law and to most as the state's first Jim Crow law. It mandated separate accomodations for white and blacks in public transportation. Walter's and Governor Stitt oppose teaching honestly about history.

Is there a greater arrogance than expressing you have some sort of relationship with a deity? Question: How can you possibly take faith seriously? How can anyone in their right mind ask others to believe in the existence of a Deity who makes Mormons so Christians will know how Jews feel, having had their literature hijacked. Nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital & indoctrinating children is criminal. The faith vocabulary causes the user to be avoided like the old woman with too many cats. Faith "comes not with peace, but sword." Faith comes with wolves dressed as sheep & preaching to the choir. Faith trades the last cow for a pocketful of magic beans & then expects everyone's appreciation. Jesus said, it is a wicked generations which seeks signs such as resurrection. Faith is as worthless as fantasyland magic, since you can't tell mountains to move. The "only sign given" in reality "is Jonah": A believer murdered by other believers because he is outnumbered. The context is Jesus seeing a gathering crowd.

That is literally a Bible prophecy. According to Scripture, America will progress down a Theocratic path, aided by the Roman Catholic Church, to the point where anyone who does not abide by the country's enforced Christian standards (the apex being the enforcement of Sunday sacredness upon everyone) can not buy nor sell, and eventually will face a death decree. In other words, if you're the "wrong" kind of Christian (ie you follow the Bible rather than American Christian Nationalism), then you are deemed a threat.

This has much to do with the steady decline of the Christian church in the United States. Year after year attendance has been going down in churches around the country. Less attendance means less tithing. Less tithing puts churches at risk of failing. I swear a big part of this insane MAGA movement, at the leadership level, is to keep the money flowing through churches. Now they combine political conspiracies with Christianity during sermons to keep things interesting at Church and increase attendance. The Christian faith is morphing in the United States.

Conservatives who so proudly tout their fealty to the Constitution want to trash our founding document by violating the First Amendment in hopes of establishing Christianity as the nation's religion. This is precisely what the Constitution prohibits= "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The Founders are quite clear= "We may safely affirm that Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the common law." - Thomas Jefferson (Essay on "Whether Christianity is part of the Common Law." from 1764.) "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.” -Article 11, Treaty of Tripoli (Signed by President John Adams) James Madison had a good bit to say on the subject. (1803): “The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries.” He even said: “Besides the danger of a direct measure of religion and civil government, there is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity by ecclesiastical corporations." "The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. ... But we may hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with all this artificial scaffolding...." - Thomas Jefferson in an April 11, 1823, letter to John Adams. "Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel." - Thomas Paine in his masterpiece "The Age of Reason." "Of all the animosities which have existed among mankind, those which are caused by difference of sentiments in religion appear to be the most inveterate and distressing, and ought most to be deprecated. I was in hopes that the enlightened and liberal policy, which has marked the present age, would at least have reconciled Christians of every denomination so far that we should never again see the religious disputes carried to such a pitch as to endanger the peace of society." - George Washington, letter to Edward Newenham, October 20, 1792; from George Seldes, ed., The Great Quotations, Secaucus, New Jersey: Citadel Press, 1983, p. 726] "If they are good workmen, they may be from Asia, Africa or Europe; they may be Mahometans, Jews, Christians of any sect, or they may be Atheists..." [George Washington, to Tench Tilghman, March 24, 1784, when asked what type of workman to get for Mount Vernon, from The Washington papers, edited by Saul Padover] "...I beg you be persuaded that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution." [George Washington, to United Baptists Churches of Virginia, May, 1789 from The Washington papers, edited by Saul Padover] "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." - Thomas Jefferson to his nephew Peter Carr, August 10, 1787.

Not everyone has the time to read books, unfortunately. But for those that do...."The Founding Myth" by Andrew Seidel or Katherine Stewart "The Power Worshippers" are great works... The original Constitution of the United States that was ratified in 1789 had only ONE REFERENCE TO RELIGION: [Article 6] No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any Office or Public Trust under the United States. The de facto motto of the United States, adopted as part of the Great Seal of the U.S. by an Act of Congress in 1782, was E. Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One). Congress changed it 174 years later (1956) to "In God We Trust". The ORIGINAL 'Pledge of Allegiance' was written in 1892 by Baptist Minister Francis Bellamy who DID NOT INCLUDE the words "Under God". Those were added by Congress 62 year later (1954). The U.S. didn't issue Paper Currency until 1861, & 'In God We Trust' didn't appear on it for 96 years (1957). “As the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion" ~ Treaty of Tripoli; initiated under President George Washington, 1796, signed into law by President John Adams, 1797, ratified unanimously by the Senate, 1797, published in full in all 13 states, with no record of complaint or dissent. "I am for freedom of religion and against all maneuvers to bring about a legal ascendancy of one sect over another." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Elbridge Gerry, January 26, 1799 “Christianity neither is, nor ever was part of the common law.” Thomas Jefferson “Religion and government will both exist in greater purity the less they are mixed together.” James Madison “The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” John Adams "In every country, in every age, the priest has always been hostile to liberty...He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection of his own." Thomas Jefferson Founding Father Thomas Paine on Christianity. “The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race, have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion…” AMERICA WAS NOT FOUNDED ON "CHRISTIAN VALUES", IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN NATION, IT NEVER WILL BE A CHRISTIAN NATION. Our country was founded when the original 13 colonies revolted and decalred themselves independent from the British Empire. Those 13 colonies were establisbed by some wildly different denominations of Christianity. We had Quakers who bought land that is now the state if Pennsylvania. Quaker also established towns in New Jersey and Delaware. We had Calvinists in New England and Catholics in New York, etc. You cannot build a theocracy with such wildly different versions of Christianity and have a united new country. Our founders understood this. Arguing over the bible is useless, because all of these people claim to base their beliefs on the bible. The truth of the matter is most of them have never read the bible other than verses curated for them by whivhever clergy person leading their church services. And they were constantly told the context and meaning by their church and never read it for themselves.

No one talks about historical documents like that, even when they're incredibly significant. People *do* talk about ideologies like that, though, especially when they're saying why their team deserves to win. These people just cannot tell the difference between education and indoctrination.

The most charitable interpretation (and the one they're surely hoping feckless "independent" voters will buy), is the notion that broadly speaking, The Abrahamic Faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) have all had a "historically significant" cultural impact upon the evolution of modern history... a case which one could make in good faith... and there already are high-school-level courses (to be fair, I grew up in the 1980's, so this may not be true any longer) that cover "cultural geography" as a subject, so there is a way in which one could imagine the Bible, as a holy book, coming-up in the same context as say, the Koran. But... we already know that's not where they're going with this, and so we are not obliged to be charitable. It's all really just a dodge, to get "moderates" to gormlessly agree, so that Theocracy can happen.

You can't cherry pick what's a teaching of "human value" when in a lot of these instances none of the acts are punished or even condemned afterwards in the very passage. Pray tell what moral lesson does one learn by having slaves without any mention of cruelty or wickedness? What is the consequence of Ruth having premarital sex with Boaz? I believe she was rewarded by him marrying her. After Tamar, Daughter of King David was raped by her half brother what was his punishment? Absolutely zilch. And in general when young girls were raped, God’s punishment for the raping of a virgin is "to pay her father 50 shekels of silver and marry her for life." The only issue described is that her purity as property is ruined not the fact she was raped. Then she has to marry the rapist.
