Fr. Even if you're religious you should be very against religion in your government, even if it initially seems like you'll be on the "winning" side. Once you combine them, you're effectively giving the church guns and the right to legally use them. Which means that they can force you to change how you worship on a whim and monopolize your relationship with God. Don't fall for it.

As a Christian, I strive to live and love like Jesus. These Christian Nationalists are chasing after power, something Jesus never did. Jesus did not complain about Roman rule. He did not try to 'make Israel great again.' He did not wage culture wars in the area where he lived. He loved, healed, forgave, and testified to who he was. He didn't force anyone to believe him. In fact, when the rich young ruler asked him how to attain eternal life, and Jesus told him to sell all he has and give it to the poor, the man walked away sad, and Jesus did not chase after him. Jesus didn't promote or 'sell' himself but humbly traveled the country ministering to others as he went. He did not look down on sinners or those marginalized by society. Christian Nationalists have lost sight of this Jesus--the biblical Jesus--as they misuse him to acquire political and cultural power.

In return he’ll remove EPA rules and other restrictions they currently must follow. It’s not clear if Trump is following Hitler’s playbook or reinventing it. @@phil20_20 Yes, actually George Washington & some of the other founders were against having political parties. The first parties were Federalist & Democratic-Republican. Then by the 1820s, the Federalist Party had fallen apart, & soon the Democratic-Republicans split into Democrats & Republicans (National Republicans at first under John Quincy Adams, then they split up in the 1830s & became part of the newly formed Whigs, which lasted close to a quarter of a century before collapsing, with most joining the new Republican Party).

It was enraging when Trump disparaged McCain's most honorable actions when he was captured, tortured, and disabled but still protected his troops. And Trump called our service members who lost their lives in WWII "Losers and suckers" per his chief-of-staff, John Kelly, it was no surprise especially because we saw him disrespect Gold Star families during his first campaign.

I am an American who grew up in Franco’s Spain (I was 12 when he died). My biggest fear has always been to live in times of war, and I was so thankful that I was born after all the tragedies I heard of. My generation won the lottery of times to be alive. But that “luck” seems to be evaporating day by day. I am so scared that we are headed to a world war: it’s the 1930’s all over again! How do we stop this?! For the sake of the children of the world!!!

I can think for myself. I don't need anybody how to run my life. This is a free country.

I don’t even know where to begin with this level of hypocrisy. Do they not recognize how much this sounds like ISIS?

I started reading the book God against the gods once because I was curious and how this came to be from what used to be paganism which is actually a much better concept. I could not finish the book. That's too direct. Trump thrives on being vague and almost endorsing things but holding back just enough to back out. If you look at his "policies" even in 2015 they were incredibly vague and generic to the point of being pretty much meaningless. I mean the wall was the most specific thing he had and even that is pretty generic.

As a Christian myself, this rise of right wing "Christianity" is heartbreaking. I've always believed that the core values of Christians is to let God's word be known, but also understanding that it needs to be CHOSEN by individuals. To force it on a nation is the exact opposite of what God would want. He wouldn't want followers with guns to their heads. It's not something you even CAN force onto people and it have any meaning. The hypocrisy is clear by them choosing to follow Trump, a man who so clearly is a symbol of excess. When Jesus said "Give everything you have to the poor and follow me" to the rich, that didn't mean "Evade taxes at all costs." The MAGA movement is a dark chapter in Christianity and one that we'll be trying to beg forgiveness for for generations.

To be fair, one of the biggest reasons Christianity is so big is because of the horrible things you listed. They did force entire groups to submit, taking their children and putting them into religious schools. Stomping out other cultures and religions. Killing people in the name of proselytizing. Forcing people to convert or die. If it weren't for the bloody history of religions forcibly spreading themselves on to the unwilling, then religion would not be as big as it is today.

In the old testament, the Hebrews and god forced their religion on many people. Entire nations were destroyed by god and his people simply because they didn't believe or worse.. Because they just happened to be in the way (The town of Adam, most of the area that is now occupied by Jerusalem , Philistine, Sodom, Gemora, etc). Anyone who was in the way was either killed, r-ped, or both. For these thousands of people, a gun was to their head. Since before Christians became christian, they have been doing this and all in the name of their god. Even the story of Noah tells how god committed a genocide on all but a single family... Only to declare afterward that the descendants of one of Noah's sons would forever be slaves to those of his brother for no other reason than that he didn't act fast enough to preserve his father's dignity after the fool got drunk.

As a Christian, I would say God is listening and will take an action that will not necessarily be what is asked for. During the banking crisis, I was working for a major British Bank. The bank allowed us to have a prayer group. The group focused on the staff, our customers and managers. We prayed for the bank to act wisely and fairly and for the benefit of everyone. Then the banking crash occurred. The banks certainly in Britain were crestfallen and have not recovered the high reverence they were once held to. Rules and regulations were introduced to minimise a recurrence. ( I am aware that Trump tried to repeal regulations to prevent this happening again). As for staff, many were made redundant but that turned out to be blessings in disguise. Even if Trump were to win the Presidential election that would put great pressure on all his Christian followers in due course to have to choose genuinely between God or Trump. What a fight for the soul of a country.

I am a descendant of John Henry Defrance, a French Huguenot who fled France, came to the colonies, and fought in the revolution. His wife, another of my ancestors, Elizabeth Boone, was a Quaker. Another one of my ancestors was a man named Thomas Gray, a Quaker, who came to the colonies on a ship called the Zouch Phenix. His house was later pushed over by some Puritans. One of his descendants, and my ancestor, a Methodist named Joseph Gray, also fought in the revolution. The religious freedom granted to me and millions of others by the United States 🇺🇸 is something that I feel I inherited. I don't practice a religion, and that is my right in this country.
