That’s his wife Morgane she’s talented. They met as young songwriters in Nashville and have 5 children. He has written over 200 songs that have been recorded by other artists, but he didn’t write this, it’s an old country song recorded in the 1980s by George Jones and others but he changed the beat.

The song was written by Dean Dillon in the late 70s. He said Chris’s version made him a millionaire. There was a great documentary on Netflix or Prime about Dean that was excellent. Worth checking out.

A few days late in chiming in, if you love this song, you need to hear COLD by Chris Stapleton at the CMA awards in 2021.

Dude, if you haven't gotten into that album there's more. He hit me out of nowhere too and you'll notice that this version is very close to how it was recorded. No auto tune no tricks and no tracks. Straight up Chris, six strings and a voice you can't explain. I want to say that's his wife singing with him but don't quote me on that. Be careful rooting through the country music catalog. Most of the stuff in the past five or six years isn't country although they wear hats and sing with a twang. I put this album on at the pool one day and the crowd there was white, black, hispanic and there might have been a couple of Asians hanging around. The reaction I got was "turn it up!" so I did and he gained a couple of unlikely fans that day. Every song on that album struck a cord with me and they're in my playlist permanently now. It's funny how the world would make us believe we're so different. We all vibe. Carry on and keep that mind open it's wonderful what you run into every now and then.

Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove wrote the song and it was first recorded by David Annan Coe first in 1981 and reached # 77 on the charts with his version then in 1983 George Jones with his version who topped the charts at number 2. I loved his version it had a lot of heart but Chris Stapleton’s version is just wow with so much more heart and soul and reached #1 on country charts and #23 on the billboard. I love both version for different reasons. You mentioned another person singing this but I have never heard that version yet but am going to check it out. Loved your reaction.

Or the songs South Dakota and Higher from his new album Higher. Or, to be honest, any song from Chris is phenominal, including his rendition of the national anthem at the Super Bowl - which had no musical accompaniment except his guitar. He's amazing.

He’s also collaborated with several other artists, such as Pink, Carlos Santana, Sheryl Crowe, Justin Timberlake and more.

I don’t like country music but like you said this has more of a blues tone. I absolutely love the Chris Stapleton version. 100 times better than original by David Allan Coe. That’s his wife singing with him.

Maybe you might be interested in Dax(Canada)& Darius(USA) "To Be A Man" which has some similar heartfelt elements but is more Rap/Country. Also there is Dirt Miller "Kansas City" which is a unique Rock, Blues?, Country? blend. He is a young talented artist from California and has a unique twangy voice and great guitar skills. 🥰🥰🥰🇨🇦

Tennessee Whiskey was originally recorded by David Allen Coe in 1981. It was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. Chris definitely made it his own. And, in my opinion, it’s supremely better than the original. A good David Allen Coe song to react to is You Never Even Call Me By My Name.

Actually the original came out in 1981 when David Allen Coe sang it …. Then again in 1983 when the Goat of Country George Jones sang it ….. then Chris Stapleton brought it back in a way that can’t be repeated

Everyone wants to put down country music. They are still musical artists. My father and grandfather were both jazz musicians and play multiple instruments. My father used to say that country music was not music because he didn't like the twangy sound of all the old music from the day. But country artists have been changing country music. Look at Darius rucker from hootie and the blowfish. I've been to several country concerts. And the best one, the most enjoying, and the most exciting was garth brooks. Thank you for opening your mind, your soul, your heart and your ears. You felt it!!!😉 To something you don't usually listen to. What's that old saying don't judge a book by its cover.
