Im a Mexican who was brought to America when I was 6 years old. I am 26 now, and my heart is split in two. Some Americans and their laws tell me I’m not from here, and some of my people tell me I’m too Americanized to be Mexican. Growing up I learned about US history and I couldn’t help but feel pride of what this country I call home has accomplished. I’m proud to live here and maybe one day I’ll be able to call myself an American but for now I’ll just shed a tear every time I hear Chris and his guitar singing an anthem about the sons of immigrants fighting for their FREEDOM. God bless America and her sons and daughters!!!
Stapleton turned it into a gospel.. it’s filled with confidence, hope, strength but still humble. It’s a rendition that makes you thank God for blessing us with such a great country to live in. Very humbling and worth listening to many times for years to come!

Thank you for this comment. So many people sing the songs with no true idea of where this country stood when it was written. A young country that was facing another attack by the British wanting their colonies back. Nothing was guaranteed at that time due to the strength of the British empire and could we prevail in the War of 1812. Our White House had been burned down, harbors and borders crossed. When the lyrics “oh say does that star spangled banner still wave” has meaning behind it. People too often sing it with a sense of arrogance and often over the top singing completely missing the mark behind the significance of the words in those lyrics. There was a sense of fear and trepidation. My favorite rendition is Marvin Gaye singing the song in 1983 at the NBA all star game.

As a Frenchman, honestly, when I hear that anthem, I feel it just as strongly as if it were my own country. I'm in love with the American anthem. I find it so powerful and beautiful. Through this anthem, we all feel the love of Americans. The effort and work of immigrants from the 1800s, this anthem is magnificent. And when I see black, white, Latino, it doesn't matter, crying during the anthem, or seeing these players, muscles tense like ancient Greek athletes, shedding tears while listening to their American anthem, whoa, it's great. It shows the strength, the respect for this NATION. I love you, the United States of America.
