As a native speaker I understood about 60 percent, but his pronounciation isn't the best. Still for someone who only knows german as a second or third language he is pretty good. I know many people who try to learn German who actually live here and he is better than some of them.

Let me say it like that; it's a very heavy accent but he actually got all the parts on the bord, the real problem was that by beeping the swear word combined with a heavy accent, the joke just got lost in translation because you can't just interpreted two syllables. He actually did a good job for someone who never learned the language.

There are only a handful of words that are censored, so you can kind of fill in the blank yourself from context, but I guess you'd have to know what your options are. "...but you %^&$ one pig"--there's only one censored expletive that fits there.

Seem to been, he speaks not good the german language. ;-) Grammatikalisch korrektes Englisch bekomme ich auch nicht hin, aber immerhin ist meine Aussprache verständlich. As a German I must admit the mixture of southern accent, american accent and obviously the speed with which he speaks made most of it hard to get at first. When you know the joke and you go back to it it's actually pretty clear. I think his German is probably very good but he spoke too fast (which probably everyone here would when doing it in front of an audience that you know doesn't get a word and will quickly lose attention)

The point of humor in question is that his joke was obscured and he told it knowing no one understood it, but to the untrained ear it passed for German. So the combination of these elements, and the sincerity of the delivery created a farce, eliciting humor. I’m sure explaining the joke didn’t make it any funnier but I’m sure the Germans appreciated it. That was a joke about Germans. Foreigners perceive them as possessing a humorless demeanor, and my dry and unnecessarily eloquent explanation of the joke ruined it in the process. This then would be perceived as a pleasing piece of perfectly droll prose for your typical German. Germans thumbs-upping this comment en masse would be quite humorous I think.

Funny that no one got it in german. I’m german myself and understood it completely except for the edited part of course. Yes the pronunciation wasn’t great but for someone who probably learned German in school and never used it ever since I’d say he is really good. It's weird how so many people who are German didn't understand it. I'm Dutch and i've only learnt a tiny bit of German in highschool, but i understood the whole joke. Maybe because i was taught to only focus on the words i recognized to understand a sentence, instead of getting stuck on words i don't understand. Also, to me it doesn't sound much different from the recordings we used to listen to in class, so i'm pretty sure me being bad at German helped me understand the joke.

Celisar1 how come? Das liegt an den hohen Ansprüchen und zu großen Erwartungen. Ich konnte, bis auf den letzten Satz, das meiste relativ gut raushören. Mir ist es aber auch egal ob er perfekt Deutsch spricht oder nur ein paar Worte, von daher finde ich das nicht so schlimm.

+Popcorn Ich denke, dass Problem ist, dass so viele Deutsche die unterschiedlichen Dialekte selbst nicht alle gut verstehen. Ich bin ehrlich: Ich hab 90% auch nicht verstanden, obwohl ich als Jurist ja wohl eigentlich ein ganz gutes Sprachgefühl haben sollte. Aber das, was ich verstehen zu können glaubte, schien mir grammatikalisch gar nicht mal so verkehrt zu sein. Trotzdem, sei ehrlich: Seine Aussprache ist so weit entfernt von tatsächlich verständlichem Hochdeutsch, dass man, ohne sich wirklich darauf zu konzentrieren, kaum ein Wort raushört. Da nützt es auch nichts, dass er ein CH richtig ausspricht, wenn buchstäblich jede zweite Silbe entweder zu lang oder zu kurz, eigentlich jeder einzelne Vokal eher Englisch als Deutsch und gefühlt jedes dritte Wort überhaupt nicht betont wird.

Natürlich habe ich nicht jedes Wort klar und deutlich betont und korrekt ausgesprochen gehört, deswegen sage ich ja Erwartungen runterschrauben. So oder so finde ich, dass die Leute in den Kommentaren hier aus einer Mücke einen Elefanten machen. Es sagt ja keiner, dass sein Deutsch aller erste Obersahne ist. +Thraxx Media he actually does speak a bit German. In an interview with the bild (yeah it's the bild, sry...I only watched it because he was in it) he more or less repeats (or summarises) what the interviewer told the viewers in german. I don't think he only recites stuff.

Funny that no one got it in german. I’m german myself and understood it completely except for the edited part of course. Yes the pronunciation wasn’t great but for someone who probably learned German in school and never used it ever since I’d say he is really good. Maybe I only understood him because I grew up learning both english and german as a mother tongue but I still think he did a good job. 👏👏👏👏👏

They censored the German f-word while in Germany there's no such thing as censoring f-words. The irony: Chris Pratt says: "You won't get it." while it's even more difficult to get censored jokes 🤷‍♂️ btw Chris Pratt is speaking pretty well

His accent and end syllables are bit hard to understand but his enthusiasm kinda lifts the mood of the joke. Aber das was nicht schlecht Herr Handsome!

my mothertongue is german and i have to say, his german isn't bad. sure you have to concentrate to understand him couse of his accent, but i'm pretty sure my english wouldn't be as good as his german, if it wasn't for series and movies.

@@Sosa081 Actually, I don't really know. My first reaction was to say yes, it is pretty different but I think someone with a french accent would say Kirche like he did in the video too. So I don't know. For me personally a French accent is just so much easier to understand as I'm more used to it.

I am from Eastern Germany, and after the first sentence I couldn't understand anything in his joke. ^^ But after I listened to the joke in English and relistened to the German version, I atleast could understand most of it.

No it was pretty good. Intonation sometimes off and he makes some very common mistakes in pronounciation but overall pretty good.
