A lot of people have said that this is supposed to be a romantic love song, because that is what most Disney movies have, but I didn't get that vibe here. I agree that if I were to sing this song it would be to my children, it does have a very sweet and soothing rhythm to it.

It’s because it was originally a duet between Asha and star’s old version of a mute star boy (who would’ve probably been singing in the head) who was Asha’s love interest. So it was originally a love song

In the Japanese lyrics, they sing, "I will never leave you behind" "I won't leave your side" I love that the subtle difference in wording shows the difference in the sense of justice between the two people.

You can see it when Asha runs to hold her grandfather's wish and "destroys" the order with the wishes that were forming a circle when the view turn to top view

I have quite a few gripes with this movie, but I will say that this is the best piece in the soundtrack. The demo piece is even better, since it was originally supposed to be a love song between Asha and Star.

He’s one of the first side characters we see from the very beginning and his 100 year birthday is made a point in the first 2 minutes. The romance plot was scrapped in pre-production and Star’s original design can be seen in concept art. You can also find a demo version of “At All Costs” on KZread, where the lyrics are changed ever so slightly to resemble a love song between Asha and Star.

The fact that Magnifico was singing to all the wishes, he really loved his people and wanted nothing but the best for them and he knew that if he granted every single wish then they would become very greedy, which they already were greedy. But as soon as she seems her grandpa or whoever it is she pushed everyone else aside and goes straight to his forgetting about the rest, she showed him she was too selfish and naive to make the hard choices

So close. Magnifico only cared about the wishes becasue controlling how they got granted gave him power and adoration. Asha never ask for every wish to be granted. Just for people to have their wished BACK so they can pursue them of their own free will.

There's so many things that make this song amazing. The beautiful vocals of Chris and Ariana, the memorizing visuals, THE HARMONY OF THE CHORUS. Everything about this song is perfectly crafted together to emphasize the genuine declaration of protection that the characters are promising. This is easily my favorite song in a movie full of great ones, and I've been watching it every day since I heard it.

Because, not only does he not grant EVERY wish. He doesn’t grant nearly *ALL*wishes, even if there not dangerous for Rosas but he *NEVER* gives them back either, he also shows signs of Narcissism and completely overreacts when his kingdom gets suspicious of him, and when he sees some harmless “amateur”magic he chooses to open the book he swore he would never open because he knew the consequences, Asha acknowledges that some wishes may be dangerous “some might be dangerous but we can stop them”and the king also says “I DECIDE WHAT EVERYONE DESERVES!”A king only decides what’s best for his kingdom, not what they deserve human wise or wish wise. He seems like a good king and yes, maybe for the first part of the movie he’s truly genuine about that, but someone can change that quick believe it or not.

Technically this was originally sang by Starboy instead of the king. And Starboy was revealed to be her grandfather but younger (her grandfather was originally dead-)

The day my son and I came home from the NICU, I asked our Alexa to play us lullabies and this was one of the songs it played. It was so beautiful. It’s one of our lullaby songs now. ❤️

Love this song! Really had me rooting for Magnifico tbh, I wish he had a redemption at the end. I think he had good intentions but went awry with the power and fear of uncertainty.

I know! I would have liked to see more of him, he has a very interesting background and motivations, and as a writer it breaks my mind that they didn't do it! The fact that he didn't have desires for power but because they give him a feeling of fulfillment is very intriguing, it makes me wonder if he even had desires at all and that's why he wanted to have other people's wishes for him, because he no longer had any after he lost almost everything he loved. Also his relationship with Asha, which could have been the means to explore that past or really give it a selfish or more malevolent side to justify the ending.

This is such beautiful song as hero and villain duet... It also inspired song "Love is an Open Door" from Frozen

This is a love song. It fits Magnifico's relationship with the wishes, and only reinforces how he's a sincere and good king. It doesn't fit Asha's relationship with Magnifico, nor her relationship with the wishes, since she's biased towards one. Feels off that her adolescent passions should be portrayed as heroic, when they're just a part of growing up & impulsive like other teens' desires. Not exactly the heroine that I want my kids to be inspired by.

I remember watching this in theaters. I was so mesmerized by how beautiful it was. I loved the film. Hopefully, in a few years people can look back at the film without hate.

Most people didn't hate on the movie just to hate. It was just a bad movie 😂. Apart from this one good song, the story and characters were really bad. Generic, boring, and made no sense. People these days think that any negative constructive criticism is hate or toxic when it's not.

There is no way the antagonist of the story can sing such a compelling, heartfelt song without being a twist villain. You can HEAR in his voice, he really means what he says...

Easily one of the best songs in the entire films. This and the reprise of This Wish gave me goosebumps and chills. Hopefully, this film gets more love over time, because it deserves it.

One thing I can admit that’s good about this movie is Chris Pine is a pretty good singer

The very first time i watched this movie with my 3&7 year old this song made me overwhelmed with emotions ! I instantly teared up ! this song speaks to me as a mother the intense love i have my children and the need to protect them from the world. " I will protect you at all cost" hits really different when you really have people you love this much❤👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Despite being a duet between protagonist and villain, this is such a beautiful song that it tugs at my heartstrings. Seriously when I hear it I get chills from how beautiful it is and the emotion and the feeling that is in the song ✨🫧💙

@@ozvuchkibilla It actually was. They changed it to just have this scene with Asha and Magnifico singing to the wishes but intended it to sound like a lullaby or love song or whatever suits you when taken out of context. One of the things they envisioned was playing the song at a wedding.

You don't need to be a genius to know that they retooled a love song into this song. It shows greatly.

When I first see the visuals of this song in the cinema, I was trully inlove how they sang the song on their own perspective and how the movement of the wish bubbles makes a good background of the song.

Finally saw the movie yesterday and loved it! Just saying, this song shows the difference between Asha and Magnifico from the beginning and how they look at the wishes. Asha is fascinated, wants to keep the wishes safe and sound and want all of them come true. Magnifico just want to possess them like a collection, because having all wishes means he can contol others. Espeacially how Magnifico plays with them like it´s nothing, but the wishes embrace and surrounds Asha like a hug. This song is really deep.

Probably the best song in the movie but I have to admit that I reacted a lot to when Asha saw her grandfather's wish so did Magnifico keep singing about protecting all whishes but she suddenly only focused on one that she cared for personaly, cant stop seeing that Ashas motivations are all egotistical and I fully understood why Magnifico would challange that, I mean she wanted and expected the working with the king perks before even getting the job 🤣

Magnifico didn't really care about the wishes though, apart from how they served to stroke his own ego. They were a symbol of his control over his subjects. And the minute his control was challenged, he couldn't handle it and went off the deep end.

@@supremeoverlorde2109 He constantly talks about protecting the wishes equally, protecting his people and making sure the past tragedy could not repeat, on that so did he create a country where people happily moved to and the entire deal was in the open, sure when Asha turned traitor and started stealing from him he thought the treat was larger then it was and it started going downward but this stress of protection an entire kingdom from the old tragedy was getting to him, he needed a vacation 😆

At least I find it a slight improvement from Strange World over a year ago. I was a little worried how this one was going to turn out. But I came home relieved of what I got.

❤. I tear up every time I see this video. Especially when Asha takes and sees her Grandfather’s sweet wish. Makes me think about my Grandfather and what his wish could have been for me and my family before parting this world. 😢. Beautiful song in every sense.

To me it’s like they were trying to find something to hate about him & use it to make him a villain. But I genuinely think he was just a victim from losing everything when he was a child & then built himself back up when he built his own kingdom & got a wife that he genuinely loved & wanted to protect her & his people. The problem is that everyone in the kingdom was so greedy & selfish that they wanted him to grant everyone’s wishes & they took him for granted. They thought they could use him as their personal sorcerer but he didn’t want to grant everyone their wishes because of that. He’s a king first of all, he doesn’t have to be fair. He didn’t have to be a caring & kind king but he wanted to be loving & caring to his people & wanted to protect their wishes. It’s like when he doesn’t grant someone their wish they suddenly have a personal vendetta against him. That’s part of life. You can’t get everything your way & you can’t get everything your way. For some people he’s probably doing them a favor in keeping their wishes bc they’re not always realistic & sometimes they’re not good wishes to grant

Thank you so much for posting one of my favorite Disney songs (and now one of my favorite Disney songs in general). 💞 "People think wishes are just ideas. Wishes are a part of your heart. The very best part." I honestly love that line. Regardless of what happened to Magnifico later on in the movie. 🥰

I didn't hear any of the other songs prior to when this finally came to Disney Plus but when this played at that time... Man. It's just one of those times where i wish i saw this in theaters with those dang speakers. Been a long time since a song like this got me teary-eyed at all. Screw This Wish, THIS should've been the standout song of the whole film!

I absolutely ADORE this movie. Disney killed it. The fact we have an actual villain, a real villain, somebody that started out with good intentions but ended up being consumed by his ambition, insecurities and resentment (due to past trauma). The fact that the good in him can be appreciated in this precise moment and it combines with Asha’s goodness is so refreshing and mesmerizing. This teaches kids that bad people are just people that stop caring for others, and that looks can be so deceiving, that your wish is your own and you need to pursue it yourself, not hope somebody else grants it through “promises” and pretty words… AMAZING movie. MORE movies like this please!

Honestly, this movie didn't need a villain, it's so cruel to have a character with so many unresolved things end up punished like this, considering that characters like Elsa left her kingdom behind without stopping to think about how her people and sister would deal with the matter, in addition to refusing to return even after knowing how serious the winter situation was and that at the same time Magnífico does not have a redemption or a better development to become cruel is the result of little interest in character development and wanting to please the absurd demand of a villain that is bad only for the sake of being bad.

More i watch this, more i understand. "I will protect you" Magnifico is talking to the power of this wishes, the power that he want and he will protect at all cost just for use it for himself; Asha is talking to the people that create those wishes. Same words, different meanings

The demo version of this song could’ve been a hit in the final product. It was suppose to be a love duet between Asha and Starboy which got scrapped. Still feeling disappointed that this move could’ve shown more potentials and Disney dropped the ball on that. Romance is one of the central core themes in Disney animation and it’s one of the main reasons that made Disney…. well Disney in the first place.

Anyone else feels like this would have been an amazing love duet? The words don't quite make sense when sung to some glowing wish orbs, but it's what you'd say to a lover.

They ARE singing to their 'loves', though. Magnifico loves his people (yes he actually DOES, but Asha kinda ruined it) and Asha loves her Grandfather. He is singing to the wishes of his people, she is singing it 'to' her granddad.

Of course, because love and devotion belong to romance. How disgusting are the people who comment on these kinds of things, because you can even love an idea, a movement and also a group of people whom you seek to protect, literally that should be the goal and feeling that every ruler should have for their people.

Chris pine surprised me in a good way he’s a gifted singer

The movie started of great. But after this song and moment finished and Magnifico looked at her grandpa's wish, his justified paranoia caused the movie to go left. I understand that because of his past he's terrified to let something potentially bad happen to the kingdom and Amaya, but with a bit more communication, things may have gone a bit better. It just feels like one minute he's a okay guy, even a great one and could be a great mentor for Asha but the next.....well.....things went absolutely left,right,down,up and straight to hell.
