I had one flying straight in front of me while cycling in my local woodland after it turned out of a clearing and along the track, it was literally about 5 meters in front, it startled me and I nearly fell off my bike lol. It's wingspan was over 2 meters, it was very majestic.
‘Flying barn doors’ is how I’ve heard them described 😊
I hope this reintroduction & release programme is as successful as it’s been for Red Kites and Ospreys 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
I live in sale west in Manchester, and saw what I first thought was a golden eagle in woodland near where I live, I reported the sighting to the rspb and a local raptor expert, it turns out it was more likely a juvenile white tailed eagle. I saw it up close that day, as it nearly made me fall off my bike lol, unfortunately I didn't manage to get a photo, but on a third visit to the area, I got some distant footage of what I believe was the same bird soaring high on thermals in the nice weather.
they are always being chased or followed by other birds when they appear.
