Not wanting to sound like a wise guy, but actually the song first came out in 1989 and remained widely unnoticed until David Lynch used an instrumental version of it in his 1990 movie "Wild at Heart", which prompted Lee Chesnut (yes, that's his name), a music director from a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia, who loved Lynch's movies, to play the song up and down on his airwaves, thus making the song hit the top 10 of various charts in 1991.

@@Parseenfroo Maybe you should stick to 'You Tube for kids' and allow the grown ups 'free speech'? If ever there was a time to curse/swear its to describe this song.
Hand down, one of the best songs ever written.
One of the best concerts I've ever been to was Chris Isaak.

Cougars, had a few.
Few bands can achieve that level of perfection live. Studio recording is vastly different to laying it bear for the audience. Beautiful 🌹💕 performance . Indeed it is a wicked game to play." I never knew I could love somebody like you. No, III don't wanna fall in love".........too late😔

It's one of those songs that gets in your head and haunts you , fabulous
My favorite song! Greetings from Poland😀
As a young lad on building sites ( when you were allowed radios back then ) i remember this tune vividly, and living it many time overs. A magical timeless tune that'll be played in many more decades to come
The legend in style… himself just can’t be matched….
Every time I hear this song, I think about every moment in my life that has past, those moments live in a desert by an ocean. I’m walking thru the desert watching every part of my life.

Naturally, this is my favorite version of this song. Besides the HIM cover, that is. Both are so haunting and sensual in their own styles.

HIM did a pretty good job of it, but Three Days Grace did a fantastic job of it. Shame that it was only available as an iTunes Exclusive for One-X. Tho people have uploaded it on KZread.

Simply a masterpiece!!
It's amazing and beautiful that after all these years of playing the song up and down, they're still so into it and look so happy playing it!
This song is 'all consuming'. You're 100% vested, mind, body, and soul every time you hear it.
We all have the one person, where this song both hurts like a razor, and also confirms that love is constant.
It’s always great when a song really speaks to you. This one does.
This song gives me memories I never had until today!!!
The best guitar solos and tune it's crazy wicked excellence , it just morphs me in to happiness everytime I hear it!!

During the late 80s and 90s Americans had like a reappreciation for the 50s era. Chris Isaac kinda embodified this trent.. His part in Twin Peaks movie was SO cool, his persona fitt right in... Great artist and a little bit underrated, his songs are so perfect.
