sadly they have shoe horned in Flintoff for some reason, Chris is a driver, Paddy is the comedy, and Flintoff supposed to be this brainless northern cricketer, Top gear would have been brilliant with Paddy and Chris if Matt stayed. Would be great if Tiff was there instead of Flintoff

GREAT PODCAST!!! truly Great. I would indeed love to see more on screen with Tiff and Chris Harris. I think the two pairs perfectly!. oddly enough im sure Tiff had a little tit about chris in the past. But its clear, both parties clearly understand each other as they are equally well rounded with the love of cars the love of racing understanding the truth in it all and knowing the business of selling the wonders of automobiles and all their aspects. They have in many ways become one of the same coin. And Chris hit the nail dead on the head. Chris Harris, Tiff Needell and Jason Plato Thats the combo i wanted to see. Thats the combo that would've gave Jeremy, May and Hammond a run for their money.

Yes, the golden age of motoring journalism and its creators like Tiff Needell, Chris Harris, Steve Sutcliffe, Owen Mildenhall and Jethro Bovingdon have showed us what driving is about. Enjoy internal combustion engines and purest forms of mechanical engineering while you still can! In the name of modern car TV programs. On the edge driving and giving maximal feedback to the viewer seems not to be necessary in the world of TV any more. When engineering millimetrically accurate shots that we saw Timothy Needell and Chris perfecting. This is the connection that motorsport enthusiasts want to see. The relation between car and driver could be improved and going about could be a fully responsive, responsible and joyful process. These guys here created a whole new Era of car programs that of course had an entertainment value but above else gave viewers the real-world data of the vehicles we drive. Might it be that because there is no necessity to understand driving characteristics due to modern vehicles that control traction and driver input that there is no need to attain basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics? Effectively when driving a modern car the driver sets steering and throttle position in relation to road grip levels over the parameters of chassis balance and traction, the computer helps to distribute the power to individual wheels, calculates lateral and longitudinal forces and lets the electromechanical differential or electric engine(s) yaw the wheel torque in the safest possible way meanwhile taking into account drivers wishlist of steering and throttle position and the overall preordained target of a computer and driver is then matched by various other possible safety nets thus the computer has actually helped to make the driver not be involved directly in the process of actually controlling the vehicle. This passive way of moving about sometimes lacks immediacy that is acquired to fully use vehicles balance when avoiding an object because forces that are involved in the process are distributed by electromechanics that basically actively cancel out pendulum effect and rear end movement. Thus creating initial understeer effect and in these fractions of seconds, it is entirely impossible to steer your car away from the object. because of safety development potential reaction time and agility has actually plummeted unlike advertisers like to tell you. The input you make has a secondary value. This value helps to prevent accidents as much as it helps to cause them. The driver, being an active part of integrated electronic counteractivity is why it is not essential to understand how cars work or handle any more. A great mark for safety there to make people deliberately less responsive of their actions as we achieve anomaly in our core in order deviate in our wake of perceptiveness. Stuff cars with heavy safety systems and leave us with the realms of passive safety, while sustaining distraction and irresponsibility from active safety by touchscreen onboard computer, low NVH levels. Jet again all that prone to understeer weight when trying to avoid an accident in the first place is engineered in for a safety in mind so that pendulum effect could not occur and the car in which it was designed for could fulfil its technical ability to absorb frontal impact. They are built to crash. Using a pendulum effect with small counter correction is usually the only way to save a car from the accident in the last possible moment but it is safer to dial down steering lock and choose a safer jet less dynamic option to so-called ´´maintain control´´ over the vehicle where your secondary value as a driver wastes potentially life-saving reaction time but in contrast 95 percent of the time causes initial understeer while maintaining forward momentum so that traction and steerability could be restored as soon as the possibility of car going neutral is eliminated by individually braking wheels, predicting oversteer u via electronic computing and other systems that behave to evade oversteer meanwhile panically the driver applies more steering lock and minimizing front end grip so that the driver wouldn´t have to control oversteer which is difficult to do and acquires skill. In other words this situation is moronic and countereffects the force that might be necessary to evade a crash. There are areas that can not be controlled by your own will anymore because of our lack of knowledge and nannying legislations. All seems to work well in commercials and we buy into them. Certainly if returned back to the topic you can not call sacking Tiff from Fifth Gear a brave decision if there is so much disappointment From fans and Tiff himself. Eliminating fanatic driving from a car program in order to make it a car show with modern and contemporary entertainment values of television in mind is I believe the opposite of what some people and car fanatics in that sense want to see. The involvement of pure driver inputs is missed out more than ever before because of the industry that is monopolized- ´´Legitimate´´ corporations that agree on making the same product. From a financial point of view, every aspect of industry becomes centralized and falls into a real-world Powerpoint presentation of resources that we seem to have no control over but we do know how to consume them. We live in a controversial world, not by mistake. Everything is there for a reason and for someone's interest. Going back to tv shows there is also little difference between top gear and fifth gear. They also end up making a fun scripted tv show and i understand that. Tiff said that he was utterly gutted when he was fired in the last minute and looking from the response, so is the viewing public. I have watched Tiff from donkey's years testing driver-focused cars on the edge and above giving us drivers useful information. It is obvious that the format has been made much more commercial and shallow. Just like making new automated cars that very rarely are offered with a manual gearbox. Now it is the time of thriving someone else's idea of moving forward in this passively secure and delusional modern world because we are offered what majority of us want. Everything becomes so generic including us and everything around and I could have never imagined Fifth gear, the true father of journalistic motorsport becoming a program where cheap humour and smiling faces, snappy puns and some foreign younger faces try to fill the time of the genre with their inexperience. I am sorry but the idea of changing the appearance with A British mechanic wolverine lookalike who knows his technical world and snooker star Ronnie O Sullivan who first was scared silly, not expecting anything about the vehicle performance when sitting on the passenger side of Vicky when he first appeared in the show years ago are there to make jokes and fun creating somewhat meaningless scenes about a program that used to give performance data. Wow yeah, some director bloke really upped the game sacking current historic racing driver Mr legend crazy man Tiff Needell from the show he actually founded. And now this show is really upmarket and dull. I am being harsh here because of utterly moronic but safe and at first glance profitable decisions. In Fifth Gears last segment that was published on youtube, they are reviewing the new 3 series m package diesel with its new era brilliantly sporty rear bias clutch derived AWD. Where are tortured tires and on the limit driving? Tell me one time when Tiff managed to be boring or not entertaining. This guy is an utter madman, a speed freak and one of the best road car auto testers in the world according to F1 drivers. constantly sawing behind the wheel balancing every single vehicle on the limits of its grip with its unique driving style is what made him famous back in the days of single seating racing cars where he became so good at what he did that he deliberately started to drift the vehicles that already acquired constant chassis balancing on throttle so that there was more to enjoy from our perspective. These times are gone. R.I.Pieces the golden age of motoring journalism. We have no informative videos being published from Autocar and steve Sutcliffe, No drivers Republic and Chris Harris and Fifth gear with Tiff where the technical assessment was the key part of the show in every single segment. There is no need in commercial business. Long live youtube, big boobs and fire!!!!

Apart from Chris, Top Gear is no more, just a comedy show for two smart-arses. With the old three, May, Hammond & Clarkson. They mucked about, were rude to each other the way only friends can only be, BUT they knew cars left right, back to front, top to bottom, all were motoring journalists before they were on TOP GEAR. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. Now only Chris does. The other two are a waste of space, just larking about. What I would like would be a Top Gear with Chris, The German Lass, Harry Metcalfe and Tiff. Now that would be a show. Come to think about it, it would make a damn good podcast as well!

@Micheal Prendergast It is not about knowing how the engine works. All three were long time motoring journalists and knew how to handle a car. Even if Clarkson did ham it up a bit for the cameras. Both Hammond and May can take an engine apart and put it back together again.

The Chris and Tiff pod cast needs to become a regular slot... just brilliant... I don’t even like pod casts... until now.

The comment about going for insane overtakes because you feel safe (1:22:58 ish) is so important. It's exactly the same reason some drivers happily punt others off at Abbey. Make the cars less safe, everyone slows down.

I don't mind these two together. My next comment though means no disrespect to anybody, (well except the TG guys - but not Rory s he's not too bad). Anyway, CHRIS, what's happened???? I use to watch Harris on cars and also read the many articles penned by you. You should be the lead on any car show. Come on man, make it happen!!! Bring Tiff but get rid of that other deadwood.

Electric rally cars only need to be heavier on long stages. If there is fast charging in between stages, batteries can be kept pretty small. Depends on how fast they need to go as well, of course. Rally Cross cars could be pretty light, lighter than on petrol, as long as you can charge between outings. Tiny batteries can delivery a lot of power. 75 kg Koenigsegg Regera battery doesn't last long but offers 700 hp. The motors, providing they need to last a bit, are lighter than equivalent petrol ones. The crazy thing about VW ID.3 is, it's not particularly light for what it is. 600 hp, modest battery size that lasts like 8 minutes. Weight of a GT3 car pretty much.
