Ironically, he then proceeded to point out that he likes the EXACT reason *why* they made it a squircle; because it allows you to _perfectly_ and _fully_ see the rectangular gauge cluster screen in front of you in a way that a circular steering wheel wouldn't be able to. It may feel weird, but I didn't see him "grabbing air" at any point in the video, and he still managed some of his usual beautiful drifts with the squircle wheel, so I think it's fair to say it's something an owner would probably get used to rather quickly. Or, if it bothers them that much, I'm sure you could get someone to fit an older Corvette model's circular steering wheel (it probably has similar buttons, so it might be easier to reintegrate the controls).

@@moogle68 exactly like in almost supercars you'd been really hating that you can't see shit in gauge clusters unless you'll install the steering wheel like you're driving goddamn school bus. And Chevy just thought about that and "wait, WHY do you need in round? it's kinda not even a wheel in racecars, huh?" and put that, so you perfectly see everything. So small decision, so brilliant attention to the detail.

The longness is the same as what happened with the original NSX. They wanted to make a supercar that you could, in theory, drive every day. So there's space to put things. That was a revolutionary idea. The C8 Corvette is the true successor to the NSX because it's proven that you can have a supercar for somewhat reasonable prices. None of this Ferrari or McLaren nonsense where you're spending well into the 6 figures. The Corvette makes sense and the sacrifices are all worth it for a supercar that you could, in theory, drive every day.

And double wishbones all around! Given that the new Acura Integra Type S starts at over $50,000, this shit is beginning to look like a bargain. And do you really need 600, 700, even 800 horsepower? Near 500 is plenty for most folk - anymore is more than most can handle. It's why the 911 GTS is about right and the new Turbo is getting to be a bit of overkill, especially since you can't get a gas tank greater than 17 gallons (unless you get the GT3 Touring, and as glorious as that it, it'll set you back some coin).

The C8 is really the successor to the C7 and all its antecedents. They were always spec'd to be used daily: it's not just a Corvette, its a Chevy! They have room for stuff, and are tested like every other daily Chevy and Ford in every conceivable environment. And (after the first-year new model bugs are worked out; what's become a Corvette tradition) they are exceptionally reliable, don't cost a fortune to run, and can be serviced at...a Chevy dealer.

Nope. The C8.R is based on the 2020 Corvette Stingray, and the manufacturer says the C8.R shares the highest percentage of parts between the production and race car than any previous generation. The C8.R utilizes a production 2020 Stingray chassis structure produced in the Bowling Green Assembly plant. The chassis is then modified to meet race series requirements. The new C8.R chassis structure is significantly stiffer and lighter than its predecessor. Source: Racer

@@hagestad That's true of literally every single GTE or GT3 category car. Seriously, the 911 RSR has the entire engine and transmission assembly flipped around so it's mid-engined instead of rear-engined. The only things modern GT race cars share with their production counterparts are the base chassis and the engine, and even those are heavily modified for race use.

I'd drive anything around Willow Springs, love that track. I'd never thought of buying a Corvette, I know the heritage etc but for this my eyes pricked up, I think it's a design that will become it's own he longer it's out. The US always gets value for money, just shows how much we are being ripped off in the UK & don't tell me about bigger markets!

I seriously wouldn't own one based on the styling, I would go for the previous front engine C7, what a tough looking machine that is!

Can't help but think that the frunk and trunk space are sort of a necessary evil in the base Stingray, but one can see why it might come across as absurd in the Z06. On the other hand, you have to have someplace to put those roof panels, so it's a tough predicament. That stripe of controls down the middle between the driver and passenger COULD be consolidated into a rectangular panel at the top of where the upper controls already are, I guess. But regardless of how one feels about those two issues (and to be honest, I'm just not quite sold on the look of the exterior. Not yet, anyway), Chevrolet absolutely nailed it with this do-over of the Corvette. You can have your Mustang SUV, thank you very much. Way to go Chevy!!

Without that trunk you have no place to store the targa top. Aside from that, a lot of Corvette owners actually use their cars as more than toys. I've travelled all over the east cost of the US in mine. Without that trunk space, it would only be a weekend toy. The wheel? Took me about 10 minutes to get used to it, and it make the entire gauge panel easy to read. The buttons on the console? The ones at the bottom are for the passenger. The driver never needs to touch them. Seem like you were looking for things to complain about.
