The sound is gnarly and the score is beautiful (though an inconceivable amount of work must have gone into producing it...) - but I still haven't convinced myself of the usefulness of those insane nested tuplets borrowed from new complexity...

The funny thing is that I understand the weird nested tuplets in this MORE than in New Complexity. In New Complexity, especially when there are pieces for ensembles, you're clearly actually expected to do them. This feels like a piece where the idea is you're supposed to obscure any sort of discernible pulse and doing it exactly doesn't matter as much as just making sure you get the rough idea. It's like the tuplets are a suggestion for the rough contour of the whole piece and avoiding a pulse.
