Chris Cornell's other band?! Vocal ANALYSIS of Audioslave's "Show Me How To Live" Live!

Ойындар

On the back of hearing Rage Against The Machine for the first time, Kirk (my awesome hubby) said I should listen to Tom Morello link up with Chris Cornell in Audioslave, which I didn't know I listened to previously (it was an acoustic performance of "Like A Stone" without Tom!) What a crossover event I had no idea ever happened, and I am absolutely ELATED to hear this for the first time!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Audioslave for the first time, performing "Show Me How To Live”.

And this darkness feels even more articulated after his passing. I love all the Audioslave records, but after Chris's death I have been listening to them very little, because they break me in a way, every time I listen - because I'm very susceptible to feelings transposed through music. I guess this darkness is one of the reasons why I really love these records, but when the source of that darkness feels more revealed, it just cuts deeper, too deep at times, and it can wreck my mood.

That album should have been called "Songs About Depression". Every song on that album tells the story of dealing with depression and how it affects your life and relationships. A lot of people, myself included, found it helpful in processing and dealing with the disease. It breaks my heart that we got away, but he didn't.

This is my favorite album from all of Cornell’s bands but this was also a tough era for him live. This wasn’t a bad performance by any means but it is markedly different from the studio version, and you can tell he’s struggling with this song, particularly the chorus. (This song is a tough song to single in general.) There are a few live recordings that Audioslave did right after the album first album was released that sound pretty good but that was about it. He damaged his voice early on (at some point there was a surgery) and it drastically changed his sound. In the background he was dealing with addiction along with smoking and drinking. Stuff happens. In his later solo albums he spent a lot of time rebuilding his voice and as a result those live performances were much better and closer to the old style many of us knew and loved. RIP to a legend

16:25 In the studio recording of this song, I really love how he sings the word "skin." You don't really notice it here, but again in the studio version he lengthen the word, almost stretching it in a way. He brings alot of extra attention to it and it definitely evokes a feeling. Subtle things like that in his performances are why Chris Cornell is one of the greatest!

Miss this man's voice so much. His work is my top repeat played on my Staylist. His original work is amazing and his covers of other artists is as well. Never enough of him. This is another great react (Show Me How to Live). ... Cochise brings out his loud power... Roses on a Grave is softer... Nothing Compares 2 U is small studio (Sirius) is a tribute... the man took The Beatles song A Day in the Life... and on stage live he reformed with one guitar what they needed two takes with half orchesta... the range he had... I repeat his Live in Sweden cover of Led Zep's Thank You often (blame it on a woman)... which is a patient sweet soft song that he reshaped from the original and is really restrained from his power and different vocal voices. Never enough of him.

Since I've discovered your channel I've come to absolutely love it incredibly quickly, both as a fan/enthusiast of music, all of your videos are delightfully entertaining to watch with just your enthusiastic personality alone, but then as a musician myself I absolutely LOVE the technical and educational aspect of your commentary. Absolutely amazing! I've watched a lot of your videos but have yet to conquer the entire catalog (Soon!), but if you haven't watched/listened to these guys yet I would absolutely LOVE to watch you experience either Shawn James, Danny Worsnop of the post-hardcore band Asking Alexandria or even Allen Stone. Some of my favorite male vocalists and all just insanely and incredibly talented musicians. Shawn James has this insanely beautiful deep rich powerhouse of a baritone voice but can easily scale higher octaves into just such beautiful and effortless falsettos. Whenever he does cover songs he always seems to just span 2-3 octaves from his natural baritone voice up into beautiful falsettos. Then Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria can just go from these deep and powerful guttural growls/distorted vocals and banshee like high pitched screams into just incredibly beautiful and emotional clean singing. He's an absolute powerhouse of a vocalist on the studio albums specifically. And then Allen Stone just has this ridiculously beautiful tone as well and can just hit these effortless higher registries also without losing an ounce of power or breath and just sings with a ridiculously smooth angelic like voice. Not to mention all 3 of these guys are absolutely phenomenal lyricists as well! Looking forward to your next video! Much love, always!
