Are you dumb did you watch that 2014 finals? Lebron average 28 on 56% from the field and 50% from 3. The problem was that wade was on his last legs and only average like 16 that series. Let’s not mention the spurs were shooting lights out and had one of the greatest statistical finals ever. Only one person on the starting lineup shot below 50% from the field at 47%, also no one on the starting lineup shot below 40% from 3, while Danny green setting the record for 3s in a final game. That spurs team was easily the best team and would’ve beaten anyone that year.

@@sdfishinn Those were great teams but great teams exist every year. Clippers are great, Bucks are great, Warriors are great, Rockets are great. Historical teams are the Spurs and Warriors. None of the teams MJ beat were on that level. You talk about the Jazz.. Name me two players outside of Stockton and Malone. You can't! The rest of the roster were just role players. That Magic team beat the Bulls once and lost to them once. It wasn't like the Bulls went through them every year and Shaq switched to the Lakers and the Magic were never the same again. So how were they a historic team? The same with the Supersonics. They were a great regular season team but kept getting bounced out of the playoffs by other Western Conference teams. They only managed to make the NBA Finals once. Again, how is that historic? The Spurs made the NBA Finals with a consistent roster for nearly a decade. The Warriors were ravaging the league and with the addition of KD, were the most star studded NBA team in NBA history. Yes, LeBron's East was weak but that largely affects his Finals record as well so you guys can't have it both ways. If LeBron played in the West, his Finals record would be much better because it would have been a guaranteed victory vs the Eastern conference team. Also, isn't it funny that people are saying that the Eastern Conference was so weak but yet, when Kawhi or the Celtics go through it, no one says anything? The LeBron hate is just unreal.

That was the bulls toughest competition in the 90s. You could have plugged in Drexler, A.I. McGrady, Ray Allen, D.Rose, Kobe, Leonard, James, Thompson, D. Wade, Penny, Grant Hill, Harden, Westbrook, George, Anthony Davis, Melo, Baron Davis, and that's enough. Basically any 2g that can get you about 20-25 and play defense. Maybe even 40 if needed.

Wouldn't that mean someone like Kevin Durant would average 10 less in that "vastly" better defensive era? Like have people seen Durants shooting and ball handling skills at 7ft? Yet he can only average a career like 27ppg at 50percent and Jordans so much better at scoring hes getting 40ppg if he played in this era? It doesn't add up that defense is that much worse. Its less physical but the athletism and versatility of the athletes must be narrowing that gap of less physicality , if not you'd be saying guys suck so much today they can't put the ball in the basket vs horrible defense. Yeah read that Yahoo! roundtable thing and it was BS what they said about MJ's era. 1. 90's era was being watered down because of expansion teams taking away good players from existing teams is incorrect. When expansion teams arrived they were only allowed to take from existing teams 8-12 rotation players, so the core of best players of teams remain intact throughout the expansions. 2. They talk as if Lebron did not face teams with only one All Star caliber teams. He did Rose only Chicago, Paul George Indiana, Isaiah Thomas Boston, etc. HE LOST IN THE FINALS AGAINST A DALLAS WITH ONLY DIRK!! 3. Multiple All Star players in one team does NOT automatically translate better competition. It can even mean dysfunction. Just look at OKC who had George & Westbrook then with Westbrook & CP3. Lakers with Kobe, Howard, Nash. 4. "Analytics" say players today are "better". Not realising that numbers can inflate due to prevailing RULES of the game which is specifically geared for more offense compared to earlier eras putting premium on defense. 5. Players today being "more athletic" than older generations is a gross oversimplification. Athleticism had always been there. What changed is rules today ALLOWS MORE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT for players. Back then travel and ball carry rules are called tighter relatively speaking. Physicality and handcheck meant defenders are allowed to put their hands on you impeding your dribbling, direction and acceleration. I bet not many players today will be able to dribble with ease and do stepbacks when defender are allowed to be close to the player, when I say close, I mean literally hands pushing you and breathing on your neck close. Not hating but Lebron for example excelled because he can accelerate towards the basket unimpeded. He will not be able to do that is his defender is allowed to handcheck him from beyond the arc and push him to blunt his momentum. Prime Shawn Kemp had freakish power and athletecism on par with Lebron, if you play him at this era he would have been at a serious advantage for sure. 6. Players back then are DEMANDED TO PLAY FULL TIME DEFENSE. Just look at how many of the players today are actual elite defenders or two way players. Playing both ends of the court is far physically demanding than just playing offense. AND WE AREN'T EVEN TALKING ABOUT THE "LOAD MANAGEMENT" abomination that is prevalent today. Edit: Updated with fine tuned and additional points.

The teams or players can never play each other in their primes from different eras so to stay fair its going how good are they relative to their own era. Spurs and Warriors are 7 of Lebrons 9 Finals. Spurs got through the West 6times. Warriors got through the West 5times in a row. Only team Bulls played in finals who was good enough to get through the West twice was the 1998 Jazz and 92 Blazers but they lost to the Pistons. And the 98 Jazz team is the worst team he faced in Finals. They were the 17th rated defense. John Stockton is the 2nd best player at 11pts and 7ast. Only real serious offensive threat was Malone. So their defense isn't great and offensively only one guy who's really legit a guy you have to double on offense. Lebron easily has had tougher finals opponents and tougher situations playing the 07,14,15 and 18 finals with no All-NBA teammates defensively or offensively that season. But even though the situations are tougher, he didn't win so we can't just give him titles he didn't win. But it's funny how the star gets the blame no matter what numbers they put up or the situation, until someone tries to explain Jordan not having a .500 record his first 3seasons with a 1-9 playoff record.

Kawhi didn't have the numbers but with less offensive responsibility arguably best wing defender ever that could get 20 within flow is top 15, Tony Parker NBA second team so top 10 arguably. Makes me laugh to see this generation assume that the players from the 90’s wouldn’t be capable of shooting more 3’s and being just as athletic as today’s players. They played in the 90’s and early 2000’s, not the 50’s or 60’s! The game is less fundamentally sound and teams rely on 3 pt shooting with lax rules. And to think that a competitor like MJ wouldn’t elevate his game against these cats today? Nonsense. Like I said, Lebron went 3-5 in the Finals during that 8 yr run. This subject would matter if he had won more than he had lost.

  • @loungezinger

I agree with the conclusion, but not the evidence of 'Lebron was 3-5 in the finals!!' . He consistently dragged undermanned and under talented teams through the east on his back and then played vs far deeper and heavily favored teams in the west. Thats BETTER than losing in the playoffs EARLIER. Would it have been better if he lost in the semis and only made it to say 4 finals to go 3-1? Obviously not. Do people complain MJ was only 6-7 in the post season and 6-9 in all seasons? All that matters is how they played in the finals itself if you are looking at that as a strong factor and Lebron played at an MVP level in all but 1 finals series. I still have MJ 1 Lebron 2 but lets stop with that stupid Skip Bayless argument.

Better than losing in 1st or second round or something. Which MJ did quite alot. Im still MJ 1, Lebron 2 but I find the finals record argument to be crappier evidence.

@@richardsaenz6785 this is a straw man debating point. • which rules are you going to play under? The 90's or current day? This is relevant because now it's almost impossible to guard a player effectively on the perimeter. The spacing is ALSO key because in the 90's the game was played differently--> inside, out as opposed to outside in in today's perimeter oriented game. Also, the liberal dribbling rules allow for players like Steph to do what he does on the perimeter. 2) Era is ALSO important because in the 90's Steph wouldn't be ALLOWED to play like he does now. Coaches simply wouldn't allow it. • • I certainly understand that this generation looks as the range of players/spacing and how important it is to the game today and how it is played. In the 90"s Pippen and Jordan would be physical with Steph , guarding him from baseline to baseline. Hounding him and being physical. Keep in mind, the wide crossover, and many of the ball handling moves would be violations. Do you know how many times Allen Iverson was called for carrying. Lol 3) There's no context of who would beat whom with different rules and different styles of play 4) There are different skill sets, not necessarily better skill sets. Big men today, sure they generally have better range, but could they post up and display the footwork of the great centers of the past? Probably not...Not because they aren't capable, it's just a skill set that isn't practiced anymore. Likewise, the bigs of the past weren't as proficient in their 3pt/outside shooting because they didn't practice or develop that skill set. The two reasons I just outlined, style of play and coaching.

@@richardsaenz6785 I'm gonna piggyback off @Mo Brown too. For Steph, plenty of people in the 90s could guard him since we saw Dellavedova guard him pretty effectively in the '15 Finals...and Delle wasn't some all-defensive stopper. He was just physical with Steph, and Steph didn't do as well. Curtis Jackson/Mahmoud Abdul Rauf is very, very similar to Steph. Great template for seeing how Steph would do in the 90's. Klay is a LOT like Steph's father, Dell, since he's an all-time great catch and shoot player. You could even say Reggie Miller as both don't dribble a lot, and get shots mostly from off the ball movement. So, if you want to know how Klay would do in Jordan's day, use Dell/Miller as the template. Miller only if Klay had his own team. We don't know how Klay would do today with his own team cause he's never been in the situation to be the main scoring threat. KD? KD would probably only be slowed a little bit at most from the physicality. He's an all-time great scorer, so it doesn't really matter the era, he's getting buckets...period. As far as other talent, the league itself has said over and over they changed the rules to SIGNIFICANTLY help perimeter players. It wasn't on accident, and continues to be mentioned year after year. The "talent" you see is simply the rules allowing players to have freedom to move, allowing more people to display their offensive talent. If you've ever played ball anywhere, you know the one guy who can cross his own shadow at will until someone (maybe a football player) starts being physical and playing hard defense. Then he whines like a bitch and calls foul every time he tries to score. In the 90's, no foul, and his "talent" wouldn't be as obvious. Now? He gets the foul and his talent seems special. 90s talent was more about physicality, 2010s talent is more for offense.
