    I saw one of these picked up at the bowling lane i work at just a couple days ago. 12mph ball with 550+rpms on it. Deflected off the 5 and into the 7, sending the 5 into the 10. Not impossible...

    As soon as that ball hit the pocket, it did a right turn! And, if u want any chance of picking it up, u have to knock the 5 into the 10, then have the ball take out the 7. It’s possible if you hook a light ball.

    If you throw a hook at the 5, light enough to hit the 7, then have the 5 come off the wall cross alley and take out the 10.

    Exactly. Thanks for posting the correct terminology. Even bowlers that throw a lot of ball can see a ball run out of gas like that. A classic roll out. And yes, I know this is a response to a n 11 year old posting.

    Yeah, my friend throws the ball slow and he really rolls the ball out and when it hits the pins it’s like a pillow. If he’s a little light he leaves ugly things like the 4-5-7, 5-7, 5-10.

    I bowled on a co-ed bowling team one year in high school. One of my team mates left this split twice in one tournament. The cool thing is she picked it up one time. The bowling alley nearly lost the roof with all the whooping, yelling and chearing going on. One of the best highschool bowling memories I have.

    I made this one once when i was 10, using a 6pound ball (normally using a 10 or a 12 punder),my fingers could still fit in those,so if you hit pin 5 from the side, the ball will be light enough to kick into the 7 or 10 pin, while pin 5 is taking out the other one. You sure got to give it a try, it made me feel real proud, but your fingers probably won't fit in a 6 pounder, I dont know if its possible with a heavier ball

  • @bcrusher3
    @bcrusher313 жыл бұрын

    @theXmenshi unless u are using a very light ball like maybe 6-8 lbs the ball will not be able to clip the 5 and continue into the 7. The only way to really get it is to pick up the 5-7 and hope one of the pins bounces out and rolls over to get the 10 pin.

  • @theXmenshi
    @theXmenshi13 жыл бұрын

    ive picked it up several times. just the same way i pick up just the 7 pin standing. except it clips the left side of the 5 as its going by sending the 5 into the 10 as the ball continues into the 7 pin.

  • @hertzvanrental100
    @hertzvanrental1009 жыл бұрын

    Its all to do with a weak ball being deflected off the 1 pin, fully onto the 3 pin, which then sits the 6 pin in the gutter and not hitting the 10 pin. The 5 pins stays unhit, then similar happens on the left side of the deck....likely the 2 takes the 8 and the 3 takes the 9pin.

    I had this 5-7-10 show up and the only way I got even try to make this was to use a 6 pound house ball and use no thumb. It's a very tough split to make and more often, I've got only the 5 pin like Barnes. Until I used that 6 pound house ball, I missed every time and left an open. Using that ball, I managed to get the ball to hook left of the 5 pin just right to take out the 10 pin and the ball deflected into the 7.

    I've made this before, with my 15lb HAMMER (counterweighted ball) major hook on it. Was able to cut the 5 to the 10 and have the ball hit the 7. Need dry lanes to do ti though, or a light ball like others have mentioned.

    People need to think twice about talking about people not having enough revs when they leave 8-10 splits as well...here you have Chris Barnes, with a lot of revs and he leaves a 5-7-10. Happens to the best of us. I have seen more 8-10's as of late and they are left with a lot of rev players. You leave a solid 8 and a solid 10 at the same time..there u go

  • @MONOPOLY35
    @MONOPOLY3512 жыл бұрын

    @aquakiller8 The 5 pin has to be launched to one side and somehow travel to the other side as well. It is not natural for a typical bowler to throw the ball very slowly without precision problems. Plus, unless you're allowed to grab a rental ball, it is a waste of time to carry a 6 lb ball in case of weird splits. The Lilly is a rare occasion and I have only left it behind twice in my life. My dad bowled a lot, yet he does not remember any occasion of leaving the 5 7 10 because it is unusual.

  • @gottalottarugs
    @gottalottarugs9 жыл бұрын

    In my local league bowling center, this Lilly was documented to have been left on (1) pair of lanes for at least (8) times in (8) days of league bowlers. Only (1) was on the right lane, and the remainder were all on the left lane of this pair. I brought it to the attention of center's manager, who also bowled in leagues - and he was not aware of it, because other bowlers hadn't noticed it as being the extraordinarily high occurrence of this split in ANY bowling center, throughout ALL lanes, over ANY length of time. A new webpage I ran across today that documented the conversion percentages of almost 450,000 frames of professional bowlers of ALL pin combinations DIDN'T EVEN INCLUDE THE LILLY IN THE PERCENTAGE RATIO, because it occurred less than 25 times in this test. This could easily make the Lilly the rarest of all pin-leave combinations. So now go back and re-think the idea of how many were left on this one lane pair here recently. It's past the point of being chance, bad luck, or phenomenon.

    Easy answer. One or more pins are off spot. Believe it or not, you have to be a decent bowler to leave it. Put the 3 pin and or the 4 pin off spot with a ball that went through the rack just missing the 5 pin due to D.O.A. and the 5-7-10 has a much greater chance to appear. I saw Dick Weber leave several of them on Championship Bowling in the 60's. A friend of mine bowled a 297 game in a college league, also in the 60's. He delivered his last ball, ran it out, and there it was..the 5-7-10! We didn't know if we should display grief over a near 300 or if we should laugh and give him some grief. We laughed.

    I've seen someone throw out over about 8 board with 2 hands, bringing the ball to the left side of the 5 hitting it to the 10, with the ball deflecting off to the 7. I've left this shot a couple of times in 6 years of bowling and i'm only 16, but i've only seen it spared once.

  • @Secundinius
    @Secundinius15 жыл бұрын

    As in my other comment, it is makable. For a righty, you would have to drop your wrist as if you were shooting a solid 10. You want some revs so it clips the right side of the 5 pin, kicking it to the 7 and bouncing the ball to the 10. Lefty would be the opposite side. Left side of the 5, kick the 5 into the 10 and the ball into the 7.

    +EPICGUYDUDE Only way I can imagine (without using a 6 pound ball and relying on deflection) is a large hook into the 1 to bounce it over to the 7 and then have enough drive to get the ball left enough of the 5 so that it can slide into the 10. I looked at the angles and it seems to check out. So, basically, throw a strike ball that's a little heavy on the pocket

    I've actually converted several Lilies (5-7-10) myself. As a right hander, the trick is put enough hook on the ball to touch the 5 pin on the very left side to send a messenger over to the 10 pin...while your ball carries through to take out the 7 pin. Vice versa for lefties. I also like a nice challenge of a 6-7-10 or 4-7-10 split. Converted several of each. Again... It's all about ball placement, combined with revs of the hook. The 7-10 converison, however... That's my unicorn.

    I dont have a video to prove it but I once threw the ball to aiming for the far right edge of the pin right on the gutter where the ball would fall into the gutter but then bounces back up and tap the pin just enought to get the 10 pin flying left to knock down the other pins. Lucky I guess but not impossible.

    He did hit the pocket *what seemed to be* in the right spot. **BUT** Just because it SEEMS to be the right spot doesn't mean it is. If you watch closely, the ball had minimal follow thru. it hit the 1 pin and bounced right. from there he just got a really unlucky bounce from the pins and left that horror of a split. When I spared it, I lined up left, flattened it out one handed dropped it at about 23 from the left and sent it outward, almost like picking up a 10. Tapped 1 into 7 and ball to 10.

    Barnes must've been bowling with a light ball here (although I can't think why he would be) for the ball to be that dead-on-arrival at the head pin. Can't believe the way that ball deflected off the 1.

    Hardest split ever! No one sees it coming and very few people practice a giant hook. Plus, while the 7 10 requires a jump across the lane, the 5 has to be launched halfway to the side and then launched to the other side. Aside from that, the 5 can be hit and hopefully cause the 7 pin to fall or slide across against the 10. The 7 10 cannot be slided in, but the 5 7 10 opens a very narrow window for sliding with pin action.

    @elderbowling15 You weren't bowling on PBA conditions, were you? I'm no expert, but I've heard it said that they're a solid bit less forgiving than house conditions, or even lower-level tournament conditions.

    I left this in league in the weirdest way ever. I was a little light in the pocket and I paralyzed the 5 pin and the 7-10 just stayed still. The 5 pin fell and stood back up.

    @elderbowling15 okay then, lets see you post some 5-7-10 spares if you think that its so easy to make.

    Left the "sour apple" for the first time I can ever remember last week on my league. Pretty embarrassing and frustrating. This was with a 15 pound Ebonite Bash. I have thrown the apparent same shot quite a few other times and managed a wall shot strike or maybe at worst a 5-7 or 5-10. Ball rolled out and had no energy left to throw the pins around. Makes reactive resin seem like a better choice again!

    That MIGHT work if you're throwing a 6 pound plastic ball that will deflect off of a pin. a 13-16 pound traction ball isn't going to just magically deflect off of the 5 pin over to the 7 pin. As a right hander, a good method is to throw down and in from the right side of the lane with enough hook and revs on the ball to touch the 5 pin on the very left (Brooklyn) side to send a messenger over to the 10 pin...while your ball carries through to take out the 7 pin. Vice versa for lefties.

    but come on... can anyone PLAN the 7-10 conversion? It's taken all 3 players on TV by surprise. Other than that I haven't seen anyone convert it. as for the 5-7-10... i'm not sure i've seen that one.... lol. how the hell did chris barnes leave the 5 after hitting the pocket? does his ball weigh 10 pounds or something? that's crazy. i guess he doesn't have much hook, but there are a decent amount of revs on his ball. the 5 was a problem for me when i had my 12 lb plastic ball.

    i got it once, but im not entirely sure how BECAUSE i got a 12 pound ball, im only 15 and usually use a 10, and just chucked it as hard as i could, spinning as i did, then my freinds all cheered and all the pins were down. They told me that i had hit the 5 pin which took out 7 and then the ball hit ten... somehow
