This performance is a clip from the Gala Concert of the "Russian Winter" Arts Festival at the State Kremlin Palace of Congresses in Moscow. USSR, Central Television, 1965.

This is a song I love in particular. It was from the Russian Revolution before the Revolution, 1820's Conspiracy against Tsarism. - R.I.P Pavel Pastel, symbol of Russian National liberation against absolutism.

This is wonderful! Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, American film composer Johnny Mandel STOLE this great chorus almost note-for-note (with minor changes) as "Sailor's Chorus" for his soundtrack to the 1966 film "THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING"...claiming it as HIS OWN, with no credit to Shaporin. Mandel copied everything: the key, the vocal arrangement, the accompaniment-...even the mouth siren in the final D-Major chorus. A slap in the face to Shaporin, who died the same year the film was released (1966). LR

The Soviets paid no attention to copyright law at that time. At least the chorus was made up of American singers. One way or the other, the chorus is a masterpiece. And I’d add, the movie generated huge feelings of affection among Americans for Russia.

@@dougstinson3254 Both of you are right. Mandel stole this chorus note for note. Shostakovich (presumably under "orders") sued 20th-Century Fox for illegal use of the 5th Symphony in "The Iron Curtain," but the NY court dismissed the suit on the grounds that the USSR was not party to the international copyright convention.

Quite the diversity, rather than only producing Communistic songs, they switched to producing Nationalistic Songs about the 1st World War or just praising Russia in General, quite the praise I have for this Choir, and it will remain forever in my heart after death

Замечательный хор, прекрасно поют. Все мужчины орлы, генофонд нации. А где же Л. Харитонов, попыталась сама определить, не третий ли в верхнем ряду справа? И вы тут обвели в кружок. А я рада, что угадала. А вот в одном ролике не нашла, как ни смотрела, или он всегда был на одном месте?

My pleasure! Unfortunately there're not too many songs performed by Ivan Savchuck who's one of my favorite tenors. Among such songs are - Bandura, Happy Girl, Far Far Away, Black Eyebrows Brown Eyes, Close to the Garden, I look up at the sky... And some others mostly in duets or trios...
