Babymetal's crowd interaction and involvement is next level. I traveled from Melbourne to Tokyo for both of their recent major shows in January and April, and I can assure you that there is nothing like Babymetal live in Japan. Babymetal live isn't just a concert, it's a theatrical performance in which the fans are an active participant. The fans in their homeland are so passionate and engaged, so they just go off once the show starts. They were chanting "Hedoban", which is Japanese for "headbang", so they're saying "Headbang, headbang, headbang!"

The growl is on track. The crowd always goes wild during BABYMETAL shows. People in the crowd know their lines and choreography. They are part of the overall performance. The three girls (Suzuka Nakamoto aka SU-METAL aka Su, Yui Mizuno aka YUIMETAL and Moa Kikuchi aka MOAMETAL) were 16, 14 and 14 years old. The main vocalist (Su) turned 16 the day before. This is her birthday show/party/concert. The name of the concert "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" refers to her birthyear. Gimme Chocolate (the one you reacted to) was recorded on the same day (December 21, 2013). Did they audition? Not for this, no. They were part of Sakura Gakuin (an idol group or talent agency with a school theme, owned by Amuse inc.) when one member of the company (Key Kobayashi aka KOBAMETAL; now director of an Amuse inc. subsidary and still in charge of BABYMETAL) suggested they do this as one of several subgroups of Sakura Gakuin. That was back in 2010. The three had never before heard metal music or even the name of the genre "Heavy Metal". But they quickly realized they can dance to it. So they went along. Nobody expected this "heavy music club" to be anything but a short-lived experiment. Amuse inc. did not provide additional funds. BABYMETAL performed in strip malls and on tiny stages. They did not have actual costumes but used their own clothes and borrowed ones. Their first MV (Doki Doki Morning) was produced with a budget that hardly deserves the name. It proved international potential for the band. In 2016, six years after their debut, they sold out Tokyo Dome two nights running (55,000).

Welcome back to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥 Another great reaction, and just like you saw the party on BM live concerts is wild, especially with this song becoming super fun into something like a cult.👀 A couple of days ago they started the Sabaton's Europe Tour performing live at Leeds, yesterday was London time and today is Cardiff turn, everyone is having a blast with them coming back to the stage in this live tour and more is coming such the Babyklok Tour in the US along with Dethklok. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind. Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday. 15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date. This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear and is the same concert you saw them performing Gimme Chocolate!!) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are: - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending, The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan. Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities. They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists). They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.) - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday". - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene. I would love if you can go with the rest of the songs of this special live concert but if you want another song that ranks high as a favorite you can watch: - _"Ijime Dame Zettai"_ live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 and you can witness a turning point in their career and a different type of live performance unlike this one with big top notch production. Keep coming back with more BM songs and enjoy the ride into the Foxhole. See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal was originally a fusion of metal wand j-pop which they called Kawaii (cute) metal. The girls have stated they were unfamiliar with metal when their club was first formed but after hearing it they have grown to appreciate it. with their new album release, they have some 60 songs and no two songs seem to be alike, and they even infuse other genres into their music. Su raps in one song (BxMxC) they have one with Bollywood appreciation (Shanti shanti shanti), they have latin influence (night Night Burn), You have commented on the Kami Band Several times, so you may enjoy the song Rondo of Nightmare (with mischief of metal intro). Not sure if this helps with thier movements, but the song is basically about a young girl (15 yrs old) going to her first concert. Apparently in Japan 15 is a notable age, and a person is now considered an adult and must start making decisions on their future. so basically the girl is saying goodbye to her childhood. I'm sure others can expand on this better than I,

This is the same concert as Gimme Chocolate, only few minutes after, with the real band (Kami band) that replaced the previous fake one (Babybones) at the half of the concert. And you can't figure out how different is the end of this concert from its start.

Welcome back. I'm sure you have already been told, but this was the same concert where the 'Gimme Chocolate' video was filmed ... the diferences were that this was live ('Gimme Chcocolate' was the official video and had the studio audio) and this was later in the show so the live band (the Kami Band) had come on to replace the guys in skeleton suits (Babybones) who had been miming the instruments to a backing track. Babybones were used for early shows before BABYMETAL had the budget for a live band ... Legend 1997 (December 21st 2013 - the day after lead vocalist Su-metal's 16th birthday, this was her party, she was born in 1997) was the last big sheow they did and the last show where the Kami Band only played the encores.

@@sevsimoreacts many thanks for taking the time to reply 👍. The very unique Babymetal sound takes many forms and genres which is what I love about them - there are rap songs such as 'BxMxC' - homages to Indian music 'Shanti, Shanti Shanti' and Latino music - 'Night Night Burn' (which has only ever been reacted to a handful of time on KZread) so I would definitely recommend that.

Good reaction. First of all, to make it clearer, this is the same concert as Gimme Chocolate's. This concert is special because it is considered as the beginning of BabyMetal as an independent group. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Babymetal is not a conventional heavy metal band. They are a group (not sure if the first of their kind) of Heavy Metal Idols. Idols in Japan have a series of characteristics such as dancing, singing, smiling. They are trained from very young for this. Babymetal was born within a larger group known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura is made up of 15 girls representing Japanese high school (from 10 to 15 years old) divided into Clubs (also traditional in Japan) such as cooking, for example. One of the promoters was passionate about heavy metal and proposed to create a Heavy Metal club, where they would fuse heavy metal with pop (Sakura was mainly a J-pop group aimed at girls of the same age group). Although nobody really thought that it had a future (not even the promoter is really sure about this), so the club was created calling it BabyMetal. It was made up of three members (SuMetal at 12 years old, MoaMetal and YuiMetal at 10 years old) and began the experiment surprising locals and strangers because they managed to transfer their target audience, also reaching the Japanese metal audience. At this concert, when SuMetal turned 16, they had to leave Sakura's group (at 15 they had to leave the group) the promoter (KobaMetal) asked the company for permission for BabyMetal to become an independent group, and although for Moa and Yui still belonged to Sakura (and participated in other subgroups of it) could also participate in an independent BabyMetal. The thing is that everything was going from strength to strength and they were beginning to gain a lot of fame in Asia, opening for Metallica, the Red Hots or BMTH among others. Then came 2014 and due to the success of Gimme Chocolate on KZread, they attracted the interest of the Sonisphere promoters and agreed to participate, for the first time, outside of Asia. If we take into account the strangeness of their musical proposal for Westerners and the festival's reputation for "dismissing" bands they don't like in a very bad way (they even throw urine into bottles) they were very hesitant to accept, but in the end they accepted it. they made. At first it was thought that they would perform on a secondary stage (about 5,000 people), but the success they were accumulating and that the tickets for their entire European tour sold out quickly, they decided to transfer them to the main stage. The girls commented that before going on stage they were "terrified" for two main reasons: That their proposal would not be understood by the public (it is estimated that of the more than 50,000 metalheads on the main stage, only 5% would have heard of ever of the girls and, their second fear was that the stage was deserted. The story went well (you can see it in the video for "Ijime Dame Zetai" from sonisphere 2014) and catapulted them in the west. They currently have 4 albums (Babymetal 2013, Metal Resistance 2016, Metal Galaxy 2018 and The Other One 2023) and they are, indeed, the current group of (idols) of the most important heavy metal in Japan (I am not saying the best, but the most important in levels of influence, reaching media that others can only dream of as participating in the most important Christmas program in Japan, for example) But they are also the Japanese heavy metal group that has gone the furthest in the West in history. There are videos of their history on KZread that are worth watching if you are interested in the group, because in addition to their music, they have a very interesting mythology.

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 11 when the group began. All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia). If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more. Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.) Suggest reacting to these for a start. Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls. Megitsune LIVE at Budokan 2021 Road of Resistance LIVE in Japan Headbanger LIVE Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member. Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles. Good luck and hope to see you again.

The three girls initially auditioned for and got into a big jpop group with all young singers, called Sakura Gakuen, which was school-themed. As part of the school gimmick, the group had smaller sub-groups that were themed after different school clubs. Meanwhile, their producer Kobayashi had this idea for a fusion of jpop and metal, which would make metal more accessible to an entirely new audience of younger female listeners. He picked Su, the lead singer, for her incredible voice, and he picked the other two, Moa and Yui, for their dance ability and almost twin-like visual appearance. The group debuted as Sakura Gakuen's "Heavy Music Club" (a play on japanese 'light music clubs' which play rock/pop rather than normal music clubs which play classical music). The girls knew pretty much nothing about metal, and in interviews have said that they didn't really 'get' metal until a few years later when Kobayashi brought them to a live metallica concert, and the power of the audio and the energy of the live crowd made it sorta click.

Watch them destroy Sonisphere 2014 with Ijime, Dame, Zettai when they were like 16, 15, 15 yrs old.. Hardcore UK metal crowd notorious for being obnoxious and throwing bottles at musicians. They destroyed them. Merch sales for them outdid Metallica and everyone else at the festival for days. Breakout concert for them in the West. Babies for sure!!

Different interaction, first you have to understand the idol culture of Japan. Those two girls are there to connect the crowd, some times the main vocal can only do so much, they are a organism not a cell. The whole performance is full of connection down to the audience and not a sing along. Every one appreciate the band the singer, the thing you see here is not a song but a composition. This is not seen in the west since the 60s.
