Thank you for sharing. I enjoy a spirited discussion, and I respect your opinion. My apologies for the following long-winded response (and to Chopin fans everywhere for my disparaging remarks later on). I find the phrasing in these two performances to be so vastly disparate that they can be only subjectively compared (as is true in most cases). It is like listening to two different pieces. For you, Zimmerman's performance "will never be equaled" because it resonates completely with you. My extremely subjective opinion is that it sounds a bit cold, but there is no denying that his technique is excellent. Cho's performance transports me into a landscape of overwhelmingly turbulent beauty, where even the wavering of a single note is sublime. And I no longer wince at the brief stereotypical passage that Chopin unfortunately included in the piece. As I mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of Chopin's piano pieces, finding many of them too showy, or too mawkish, or even too boring. La Première Ballade is the only Chopin piece that I've consistently enjoyed hearing and playing. However, Cho's performances of Chopin make even the pieces I loathe sound palatable and transforms others into pieces I now enjoy. I did include a rather silly dramatic remark: "I can never hear another version." I always am open to other performances. Better said, Cho's performance is now burned into my memory as the Gold Standard that will make it difficult for me to hear others. Thanks for your patience with my novella. I look forward to all responses.

@@CrazyMoonLady Oh sorry if I was being a bit assertive then, it’s of course my own opinion but I trust it to not just be based upon my feelings. This particular recording, is a live performance that isn’t a competition, which means that he most probably didn’t prepare a lot this piece he knew for years. Actually, I wouldn’t say it was *that* good from a recital grade viewpoint. Probably an 8/10, the fiery passion here somewhat overwhelmed the delicate balance in this coda. In his album though (Deutsche Grammophon) it is absolutely technically perfect. Should be a 10/10, because I would see absolutely nothing to pick up on if Zimmerman’s didn’t exist. Zimmerman’s not only is technically equal, but has that ever so slight edge in interpretation that makes it go even further than perfection. So, 10.1/10 ? 😂

I use SeeMusic from the Apple App Store. It’s free to use, but if you want to remove their watermark, you need to pay for a subscription. I manually match up the playing with a premade midi file. There are lots of free classical midi files online you can use.

His parents must’ve REALLY supported him *cough cough* eviction *cough cough*
I don't think we should give this coda 'The greatest'. I mean, look at the other ballades, the études, even the criminally underrated barcarolle

He played the difficult part too fast and consequently made a clanger of a mistake.

everyone will revere this much more if you remove the descending line-lights
이걸 치는 사람이나..작곡한 사람이나.. 인간이맞나요..
빨리감기처럼 치는 게 트랜드인가? 과연 사람들이 충분히 음미할 만한 빠르기인가요? ㅎㅎ
Pianista Maria Manuel Mateus
Honestly I prefer the Zimerman version, less speedy
Damn boeee!!
Just because you can play something fast doesn’t mean you should. Just slow it down a hair.
Damn. Why cut the video off 20 seconds before the end of the piece???
Seems like 23rd Beethoven’s sonata a bit

Didn't he leave out a note there, at 0:57. I thought I heard something missing, 😂
Why is he playing it so fast? Seems like that is the thing today.... listen to Rubenstien play it

Una delle più incredibili... Ma l'esecutore non è Chopin
Not this cut on the last chords..
It’s good and really impressive but I just don’t like it this fast, I think it sounds much more heartbreakingly beautiful when it’s played slower, speed isn’t everything, remember what Rubinstein said “Chopin is not Liszt or Rachmaninov”.
