To my mind, Clara Haskil is the greatest pianist ever. Just listen to this performance and all others you can find. Every note is crystal clear and lovingly played. Her performances always touch my heart. Kirtley Brown

For nearly 70 years I have enjoyed listening to this concerto played by the best pianist. So why is it that only today I hear it for the first time played by Clara Haskil? Her interpretation is unique, like the other few I cherish the best. Hers is not second to any of these. I like the way she matches the youthfulness of Genius Chopin who at 20 years composed this music. Madame Haskil in her 60s shows the same joyful innocence. This remains me of a similar feeling I have hearing Rubinstein play this concerto in his 80s (!). It seems that the musical soul is ageless...

To my taste, she still is the best pianist with this Concerto which lifted my spirit highly and purified my soul. No comparison so far!!

Thank you so much for this post, David! She is incredible, her every recording is a treasure. To think she played like this just before her abrupt end, being ill practically all her life! This is a great lesson to all of us! I might re-post this on my channel, referring to this page, of course.

Didn't know that Haskil had recorded this jewel. A mozartian Chopin, incredibly clear singful playful and elegant. Thanks!

Sooo exciting!! Stunning performances by both soloist and orchestra. Haskil was unknown to me. No more!! I'll be uncovering her KZread performances hereafter. The Maestoso was gorgeous, without any malingering!! The Larghetto is exquisite with her flawless silvery runs. I'm continuing

...and so much fluidity.. Fluidity with sensitive articulation is probably the most difficult thing to achieve. Typically "chopinian".

One of my most beloved pianoconcertos. Never heard it with Clara Haskill, a real acquisition. The performance brings back my youth, I melted away with the adagio in those days, in fact I still do. Thankyou !

"How this wonderful interpretation has always captivated me: there is the unique Haskilian tone, rounded and pearly, and how everything comes together, every phrase related to every other, constituting a unified whole. I haven't heard the recording for a, long time and I'm still thrilled at Clara Haskil's comprehensive mastery of this concerto. She was an outstanding pianist. I adore her beyond measure. - Thank you very much David for the joy you made me."
