Choosing the Right Microphone (Microphone Choice)

Choosing the Right Microphone - This “How I Produce” video is a part of a Vocal Production mini series and is all about choosing the right microphone. Microphone choice can be vital, and when we are starting out, we want to choose the microphone that is going to serve us well and be able to meet all of our recording needs.
In this video, we look at the three main types of microphone - large diaphragm condenser, small diaphragm condenser and dynamic. All three mics are tested on vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar (both clean and distorted sounds) and on acoustic guitar with vocals. We then go through and review each mic for each instrument. This video is aimed at beginner to intermediate home producers, engineers and musicians.

Baha, I can't believe the timing of this! I've literally got about 10 tabs open with different 'best microphones for 2020' articles as I'm looking to make educational videos and do some music recording, and then this video comes out. Once again, thank you, very useful. I liked the sections you broke the review into, and also that you did the side-by-side comparison!

If you ever felt so inclined, I'd be grateful to hear your advice/thoughts on setting up an interface for home recording; an introduction to the basics, what plugs into what and why; which bits are essential when starting up; what are the limitations of various options etc. It's the kind of thing that has a slight, but still imposing, information barrier, and which a novice, like me, doesn't even know the terminology around. But obviously just keep doing you, and if something like that comes along in the next year hurray, if not, no worries. Thanks again for this video :)

I am absolutely in love with them! I bought them from Andertons a while ago and just think that they're such beautiful versatile speakers, and think that the boundary EQ settings on the speakers is a great addition! Just amazing value for money!
