I like that he goes from" so can you uhhh maybe, perhaps.... CAN YOU READ WHATS ON MY DAMN BACK!please..." had me laughing. Trying to be polite then shouting and then "oh-no-my-manners-please" 😂

That "oh shit" before "did I do something wrong?" how dare you Neil. His voice acting is breaking my heart constantly one moment and then I'm literally wheezing the next. They did an amazing job with the casting in general.

His righteous indignation when you dump him in the epilogue killed me. I was expecting something emotionalyl devastating, but instead I got Lucifer Morningstar throwing a hissy fit in the funniest way possible

It just shows how rushed the ending is. You break up with him right before and he takes it with grace, before the cazador quest he's obviously upset, but accepts it without throwing a tantrum. Then he acts like he would've done in the 1st act at the end. All that progress thrown out the window.

I mean, it's kind of fair given how out of the blue that kind of thing seems. His response of "What? *NOW* ? After _aaaall_ this?" is pretty fitting. And his defaulting back to his old attitude there is clearly a defense mechanism to keep from actually letting himself get hurt of show weakness in the moment. You can bet your ass he's going to ugly cry (we Stan genuine emotion in this house) about it later on his way to the Underdark.

​@@Enigmatic_Lurker um no? If it were rushed, they'd reuse the dialogue from earlier in the game. That break up is new dialogue written, programmed and voice-acted just for the end of the game. And yes, it is a show of his character growth. The reason he takes earlier breakups with heartbroken grace is because he had poor self esteem and would accept being dumped for often no reason because he believed there was something inherently broken in him that must have driven the player away. Him getting indignant shows he has enough self worth now to realize he didn't do anything wrong and doesn't automatically deserve to be dropped for his very nature. The breakup IS totally random and sudden, it'd be normal to be confused and angry about being dumped for no reason. It's not a regression just because he doesn't take it without complaint; in fact, him not accepting being treated unfairly IS a part of his growth.

@@primrosett I wasn't saying that it was rushed, I was saying that Tav suddenly breaking up with him after all they'd been through in the story is "out of the blue" from Astarion's perspective. As it it is unexpected to him and like a slap in the face after thinking someone genuinely cared about him only to find out that they were just stringing him along all that time.

Fortunately, you missed the possible scene coming from his love confession in act 2 where you force him into sleeping with you and he looks so sad and hurt during and after it that it made me sick, ngl. His "I didn't know how to say no." broke me.

I had to physically walk away from the video I was watching because I would never choose that option ever. Not even in a video game. It hits so close to home for me and even if it didn't, it's so wrong. Then he says that line and something just shattered inside. What amazing writing, but truly fucked up and heartbreaking

Ngl, I wish they changed the wording for the option. I had meant it in a “I hope you can enjoy it once you’ve healed” way, not in a “I’m pressuring my partner into xxx” way. At the very least, they could label it.

This end game break up is still pretty wholesome compared to ascended ending. Ascended Astarion just laughed in my face when I tried to leave him, like "lol no, this relationship is not optional"

iirc you can leave him before he turns you into a spawn, but once you accept becoming his spawn, he has total control over you so yeah no getting out anymore lol (and doomed to repeat the cycle of vampire spawn killing their master, too)

when you're breaking up with ascended Astarion and he asks why, the dialogue option "Because I have self respect" made me almost piss myself laughing.

"Never listen to your second thoughts, they always spoil the fun." is one of the best quotes I've heard in a game.

Going to meet him just to say “im not sure” is so funny 😂😂😂 the “then what are you doing here 😐”

the option to interrupt the ritual and having astarion fight you afterwards is such an interesting option that i feel like a lot of players wouldnt normally see. thank you for sharing!

I didn't stop him on time and did this. I save scummed that for sure. First time, however, I died during the Cazador fight and he just got mad, broke the staff and left.

@@thearcanamodernau8130 i agree. it's pretty clear when he drops his flamboyant flirty tone that he's honest. and if you continue the romance and in act 2 call him out by asking 'so those nights we spent together meant nothing?' he tells you that they did mean something -- so indeed the first night kindled sth within him, otherwise he wouldn't attempt to seduce you the second time..at least that's my take on it. also this other question you can ask him is: 'were you even attracted to me, or was it all a lie?' he tells you that of course he was attracted to you.

I love how we collectively went from jumping hoops for this dude to actively messing with him 😆

forcing him to sleep with you, making him bite that crazy potion lady and making him use the emperor's tadpole, I think, are pretty cruel too

I came here for the "kick in the balls" option because I couldn't bring myself to push that option. It was hilarious. Will do it again.

i like the lack of commitment to the bit in some of these interactions. there were definitely several where you didnt choose the meanest option(s) but i respect it cause same lol. even when im choosing dialogues just to hear the different answers i always feel so bad hurting his feelings.

6:22 This one is fucking heartbreaking because deep down he kinda mean it, even if he makes it look like he's teasing. And Tav can't believe it. EDIT: Yes I get this is Act 1 and he doesn't love *love* Tav yet. But I like to think he's starting to care and pretending he's not. If you reject spending the night with him after this dialogue, he looks genuinely upset

It can be read either way, but it’s possible to get this scene before his approval is high enough to be considered “in love.” I think he’s still messing around with you, and likes it when you call him on it.

I think he's giving Tav the ol razzle dazzle here. It doesnt mean he doesnt truly love Tav by the end of the game, it's just good storytelling. He's lying to Tav's face and showing that he is a very skilled liar because he is legitimately convincing here. That's at least my interpretation!

He says in Act 2 he was just using you and caught feelings later. The only time he says I love you and actually means it is the end of the good route in Act 3.

He's not comfortable expressing that, so he says it as a joke and decides how far to push it depending on Tav's reaction, and he respects that you call him on the bs. Idk everyone is entitled to their opinion and maybe I'm reading too much into a silly video game conversation.

I think he is sad and therefore seem sincere when saying it bcs he wants to say those words to someone and really mean it. But he always said them as a manipulation. It's that kind of sadness "I want this, but I'm not good enough to have it"

It looks like Larian has added additional choices to "Good" Astarion Romance scene in Act 3 too. Haven't checked out if anything new is added to the "Evil" route but it cracked me up with the mean option

I was romancing him and refused to help with the ritual. He didn't try and kill me but he did break up with me on the spot and permanently left the party. It was heartbreaking. 💔

When I chose to break up with him (I mean, not for real, just wanted to see his answer and reload hahaha) he said something like "I can't blame you, I have nothing to offer right now" and I was like 🥺😭😭😭😢

I've only done a good playthrough and haven't seen most of this and honestly probably couldn't bring myself to click them either lol)... so thank you! I am surprised the scene from act 2, where he basically admits to having developed real feelings for mc and then talks about all the trauma related to intimacy he's been through, and then you can choose to manipulate him into sleeping with you anyways, wasn't in this. It's a pretty horrible scene. I've only ever seen that scene once because of another video that I stumbled upon and it's still definitely the saddest/most upsetting scene I've seen related to him.

There is also pretty mean line from him if u disagree to help him with ascending. He will think that u betrayed him and he will leave the camp

I got the confession keeping his affinity close to neutral once in the underdark. Didn’t run into his Hunter. Funny thing is, he tried to bite me later and the dialogue acted like I never found out what he was

I choosed that last break up too, just out of curiosity. He said he would understand and yet his reaction is top tier of drama. We have shock, „how dare you” line, anger, something that sound like trying to awake jelousy, classical„don’t come back to me and cry if you change your mind”. Astarion, darling, you said you will understand and yet everything proves you’re unable to accept us parting ways (we will at some point mate, it’s impossible to overcome) in any way. And I thought between two of them my character would be the one to get emotional. Of course I loaded my save and choosed to go with him into Underdark. I love that Man too much, even if staying means living there…at least I have mushroom people as company. Couple of animals or trees would be nice for my druid, otherwise there is no way she won’t try to sneak out.

That Love night 2 first you can do better dialogue was different for me. Something about the tieflings accolades is nothing compared to the sound of my name cried from your lips. Was this from the goblin route perhaps? or do male characters get a different dialogue to female ones?

You have to get and unlock the book in the underground blighted village area. Unlock the necromancy book with the gem, have him in your party when you try to read it. He will offer to take it off your hands. You’ll get some approval when he gets it

Wait! Did that body type he has in the video come with a patch? Is it older, from early access? Or is it a mod or something? When I saw him shirtless in my game he had the most bulky sixpack and looked like a muscle cloud. Which really startled me, I think it didn't fit him at all. The way he looks in your recording is waaay better. Does anyone know what that's connected to? Edit: Also why is his face so smooth?? My Astarion looks so much older xD

For me it happened before entering into Act 2. I was in the Underdark, before entering the Arcane Tower or the Forge. My approval with him was always quite high though, so Idk how much you'd need. I'd assume that you would have to had slept with him and seen the scars that way bc he does not tell you about them otherwise, if I remember correctly. And maybe have had the mirror scene before? Not sure about that one though. You will learn about the scars either way but if he doesn't tell you, Raphael will

@@heroinfather316 it can be a bit finicky depending on how much you're progressing with the whole party/everyone in camp. Some scenes always get priority, such as overall plot related scenes. But most quests aren't time sensitive, so you can long rest comfortably to see if new ones trigger.
