I went busking for the first time today on my 4-row button accordion. It was good fun and I liked the interaction though I didn't make very much. I've been enjoying these videos so far : )

Really cool to hear about your personal experiences. Wouldn't have thought that smaller towns would have been more successful.

This mini-series on busking is essential viewing whichever instrument you play. Lucy has "been there and done that", where many musicians fear to tread (like me). Even should help those who are not players to treat street musicians with some admiration and respect. Well done Lucy

Great informative video! Thanks Lucy. It was interesting to learn that big cities made less money, but it makes sense when you explain it. Good to know! :)

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I didn't realize busking can be so lucrative. $60 per hour is really good compared to "jobs." How does amplification on an accordion work? Most accordions aren't electronic. So the only option is to use a microphone which normally is stationary. Or do you use a portable microphone? Where would you attach the microphone?

the earlier idea was a single microphone mounted in the bellows there are microphones that attatch to the front above the keyboard with microphones its about which sounds you want amplified bass or treble or a mix

I have a wireless mic set which I can set up to capture sound from the bass and treble separately and I plug it into a powered speaker so I don’t have any cords and I don’t use a power source. It’s great!

When we have arts & crafts shows, there is often a musician playing, yet this musician also has a table displaying their CDs where you can purchase for say, $20. (I had the CD and sleeve made through a 3rd party company) Have you thought of selling a physical CD in addition to the busking ?

I actually don’t have any CDs or music that I sell! Maybe one day :)

I was playing accordion today at a large picnic (100+ people) Well I have to admit it was a challenge - lively crowd, hot, humid, standing up, walking around. I could barely hear myself play. I needed to be amplified. Plus with my large frame, the accordion left side is tilted and the button reach is not situated as when I'm seated. One of the happy parts was when a couple said they just got back from Paris and I broke out with Reine De Musette, that I learned from you. ~Bob 🪗

Take a selfie and listen to you play and tip only a $1? Wow, some people are just so cheap. You're worth so much more than what people are ever willing to tip.
