So sorry for the loss of your roosters - our feathered friends may just be silly chickens to some, but to those of us who have had the honor of keeping them, they are really truly our friends. May they rest in peace.

My mother had a pet chicken growing up on a farm... used to follow her around everywhere. That chicken lived out its full natural life... very lucky chicken in a family with eight children during the 'Great Depression'. Mom kept her safe from the chopping block. Here's to Spud and his friend, Ludwig! 🐓❣🐓

I’m not sure but I remember Phillip chasing a rooster when he first arrived at Lalonde years ago now. That’s when I started loving his quaint and eagerness collide. It took me a little more watching and then he got me because he is a man of his own. Very intriguing and educated. Super sexy in a vintage wink. Never fails!

Oh, my box arrived with the yellow cake and coffee set! George Jones is worth investigating. I Don’t know the age of the set but it might be much older then the thirties since George Jones was quit famous in the Victorian age. From what I found it is certainly before 1920 and may be as old as 1879! Glad it arrived safely! But I cringed when I saw it going in the dishwasher. Such old porcelain should never be put in the dishwater! The glaze is not strong enough to stand the dishwater tablets. It will all get yellow inside and its quit a delicat set.

I just subscribed to "Travels with my Friend," and I have been riveted by each episode, but most especially... you and Oliver in the Istanbul Spice Bazaar! The woman you toured it with was such a character. The marble bathrooms (of the Sultans) are too vast a subject to be broached here.🤣 But seriously, you both do a stellar job, each of you being so articulate. And really, this is the best way to soak up history, and cultural goodies... travel with your friend. Your trip to Vienna was a treat! Thank you so much for including us.🙏 (And I have always wondered what was behind those private 'boxes' at the grand theaters of the Georgian and Regency periods).

OOOHH! Sooo sad about Spud and Ludwig!! They were so nice and friendly, many people think that chicken are simple creatures, but when you have some chickens and start knowing their personalities and the way they express their feelings, you start falling in love with them. They can be very loving and adorable. And talking about Lanzelot, he is really precious, I love him, and never think they will not recognize you after some days out, he may be disappointed or sad because he was not with you, but the dog's memory is legendary. Beautiful George Jones yellow Rapsody porcelain set! The rooms are going to look great, the wall paper is beautiful.

Spud recovered and that was a great relief. The animals are truly family, no matter whether domesticated or not. Loved the tour of the Porcelain factory and truly your Vienna trip was a delight to watch. That porcelain that you rec'd upon your return to LaLande was a wonderful set...such a beautiful shade of yellow, deep and rich. Divine. Hugs and love to you all ...esp. Lancelot! You probably know all this, but just in case any of it is a help… I think your George Jones dishes are from the Rhapsody series. Most of what I could find in USA was either black or green - only one or two yellow, but probably not things you want. It does seem as though, at least over here, yellow is rare and to my eyes, much the most interesting. There is a book on his work by a Mr. Cluett , available in paperback here at very little expense. I ordered it, just for interest, and will be fascinated to explore it. My collections, at 87, are not open to additions, but those dishes are divine and it will be fun to explore the subject. Hope this was not all a bore. Good Luck!

Amaury, I love chili con carne. I'm totally with you on the kidney beans. We never had it at home, only at school. I've eaten it ever since. We don't usually make it spicy hot as much as flavorful. Paprika, cumin and chili powder gives it some heat, but very little. Even my Norwegian ancestors might have been able to swallow it without gagging. Well, maybe not. Black Malabar pepper was too hot for my dad.😂 Now that I live in Texas, I realize that their version of chili is very different than what I grew to love as a child. I have to admit that I don't really like it yet. It's kind of an assault on the pallet.😝 It lacks finesse. You've had some Texans staying at Lalande, Sydney and Jerod come to mind. They might have tackled Texas Chili for the sake of their fellow Lalanders. It's great to have Stephanie and Philip back at home and to see Lancelot bouncing about again. I'm sorry to hear the news of the roosters. While alive, they enjoyed celebrity and fame, regular and substantial meals, the company of the "ladies", they generally lived pretty comfortable lives. Hopefully they suffered little in the end. I'm anxious to see the latest work on the chapel. Hopefully the paint restoration starts soon. I'm waiting to hear that all of the Saint Charles Borromeo stars have been purchased. That will be a happy day. ❤ from TX!

Your both lovely. I am so sorry about the cockerels. Spud and Ludwig . It’s always so sad and painful to lose a beloved pet. How wonderful Amaury made you a delicious dinner after your long day of travel. The kitchen really is the heart of the home even in a home as large as the chateau. I can’t wait to see the wallpaper and the painted trim. It’s going to be beautiful. Little Lancelot was so happy to see you, all is right in his world now. Welcome home. Thank you Stephanie for all the joy and beauty you put out into the world.

Stephanie/Phillip- Based on recent struggles with paint, just a couple of tips with getting paint: 1)The colors you see on the paper can be very different than you would see on the walls, if simply it is a reproduced color on paper. Even in perfect lighting it may bear little resemblance to what you think it is because the sample paper is a reproduction of a photo. 2)Another big problem is the lighting in the store , these days it is either fluorescent or LED, and it is absolutely out of whack to what it will look like in more natural light, they find the coldest color they can I swear. Once you have narrowed it down to the colors you potentially may want, then get a sample (usually it is like $5 USD here in the US, depends on the brand/store). Until you get the paint on the surface and it dries, you don't know what it looks like. I generally bracket the color I like (ie they usually have multiple colors in different shades light/dark) , get samples of them and paint them on the wall side by side for comparison. 3)The other thing is that the base can make a big difference in my experience. Not just eggshell vs flat vs gloss, but also these days they usual have different levels of base, and that can make a difference (this is usually in big box stores like your Bricot, paint stores that sell a brand like Benjamin Moore, they tend not to). They often have a store brand, store brand done by a bigger name (like a Sherwin Williams) or the premium base. The color can be different depending on the base as well. (it also depends on the color, if it is a standard blue or red, the base likely will not change how the paint looks, with more subtle colors it does). I generally find the more expensive bases tend to look more like what you would expect, they also tend to cover better, but that isn't alsways true. Again, samples are huge, you save yourself a lot of time and grief by getting them to make sure. Occassionally it is because they mis mixed the paint, though these days it is usually computer driven so that isn't as likely. Hope this helps

I am inspired by your energy and look forward to the seeing the room decorated. Start of the boiler room ventilation is another satisfying step in the central heating project. Take care and enjoy each moment.

I'm so sorry to hear about your gorgeous cockerels! Strangely, my mom also lost her three chickens this week. She thought it might have been the meerkats in the area, but then discovered it was the owls!

So sad to hear you lost the two Roosters. Very strange. Gosh you and Philip are so insync with each other that you’ve got shopping for anything down pat. Look forward to the room transformation. Nice to come home to Amaury cooking a hearty meal 👏👏

I'm so sorry to hear the news about Spud & Ludwig. I was horrified when that dog took off with Spud before. My rooster is not as friendly as yours but I still love him.

I am so painfully sad for your loss of Spud and his brother 💔💔💔 I had my boy for 14 years and I have still a broken heart over my little boy. He was a Bantam rooster the size of a pigeon ! He couldn’t stand cold weather so we had a a giant Parrot cage in the living room for him
