    A divertor gives you variable flow control for the third function and a electric button gives you full flow only and the third function could operate quicker depending on the valve size and hose size. As you said , you can only use 2 our of the 3 functions due to limited hydraulic flow. A very informative epidode and I'm glad my tractor came with a diverter. Thanks for all the videos.

    Tim… my dad always said… You can’t get something for nothing! Hydraulics are the perfect illustration… you have to either trade off functions to gain versatility or trade a bunch of money to get all your functions… and in the end, you still take a bit of a hit it performance when you try to use all those functions at once… not to mention crowding your work area with hardware and controls. But, in the end, it is worth it if you need it! Nice job showing the options… great explanation too!

    I recently purchased a Yanmar YT235 and had the front and rear OEM hydraulics installed. I had the tractor for several months prior to the installation, due to supply issues. I also took your advice about having the rear tires filled with Rim Guard for ballast. I also had 2" spacers installed to widen the tractor for stability on slopes. I now believe that I have everything I could ever need on the tractor so that I am not limited in any way for any thing I would like to accomplish. I am very fortunate. I have learned so much from your videos, greatly appreciated for everything you show. I currently do not have any implements to use on the rear, other than a knack box I altered to utilize my quick hitch for ballast. (about 800#) filled with various tools to be used in the field. The only rear "implement" I have is a manual blade which I purchased for snow removal, but, I find I am using it for much more than that. I plan on planting a garden this spring at my daughter-inlaw's, Grandmothers farm, so I am wondering what you think I could use behind the tractor to turn the soil? I am looking for a 2-bottom plow but am only finding 3-bottom plows, do you think that this tractor is capable of plowing with a 3-bottom plow? (with or without coulter's)

    Thanks Tim, very informative for the new owners of Sub Compact Tractors. I picked up my new 21 1025r a month ago, I chose the JD 3rd function for my grapple and any other front hydraulic needs and installed the JD Power Beyond for future expansion of the rear hydraulic options. The JD 3rd function is a very integrated system with hard line installation requirements but fits nice and is a clean install. The JD Power Beyond is integrated into the 3rd function system so if anyone is planning on taking the JD route, take note that it is beneficial to install both kits at the same time, that way you only have to disassemble the right side and floor boards and seating area of the tractor one time. Just thought I’d let some new owners know if they are still figuring this out, it took me a year to decide what and how I wanted to proceed as the sub compact hydraulic options were and still are evolving. Hopefully this will help someone down the line decide on what to do or what not to do!

    Depending on how much flow your pump produces, is a key to deciding whether you want a third function, or a splitter. You typically don’t have enough fluid flow to do two things at the same time.

    I bought the JD Factory SCV Kit about 6 months ago. This does have hardliners and looks factory but it limits me to 1 set of rear remotes & YES the handle is in an awkward spot but I just use my elbow to actuate it for the most part. Mine was missing the actual control handle so I made my own out of a 200mm bolt that I cut the head off of and bent then I installed a Cue Ball on it and I was good to go. I don’t have the backhoe so this was my only option at the time. Quite pricey for what you actually get but I needed it!

    I used the summit 4 valve kit that is installed on the rear of my mahindra. One valve uses long hoses to function as my third function. I had to use the generic kit and create brackets and hose/fitting combos as there was no kit for my tractor. I am very happy with my setup. I run a hydraulic top link, have plans for a hydraulic side link this spring and I will still have a spare valve for future use. Everything is plumbed thru my backhoe power beyond kit that was already on the tractor.

    Man this was an extremely well thought out set of knowledge and options. Great job. I have the JD 3rd function and installed by JD dealer. Wow, like you said it is so well integrated into the 1025R platform. I also like the joystick control. Couple of buts:1- the install costs more than the 3rd function. Yep pretty much took the tractor apart. 2- the hydraulic/electric gizmo is installed very close to the fly wheel access under the tractor. This makes turning the flywheel very cumbersome to get that crazy buried zerk fitting on the front drive shaft ( wish they come up with another solution to access that zerk). As always thanks for doing what you do.

    Hey Tim, Ive got the OEM Deere 3rd Function for my grapple, what about an option similar to your 'cheapest rear solution' option from Discount Hydraulic Hose, but instead of using the loader SVC to run the hoses to the rear, you use the 3rd Function to run to the rear? That way you can still use your loader/bucket, and it would give you the option to run 3rd function in the front or in the rear.

    What a great video Tim. Good job. I have the OEM front TFK on my 1025R. Have purchased the OEM PB kit but not installed it yet. Have not pulled the trigger on the rear function kit yet. Trying to decide which to get, 2, 3 or 4. Currently I don't have any attachments that need rear hydraulics, but I know I will in the future. Having a hydraulic top link 3pt would be great. A hydraulic arm on the 3pt would be nice for easy tilt. Thank you for a great video of what options are out there and giving your opinion on the pros and cons of each. I liked how you broke down each need, front only, rear only and then both.

One question I have - do you have any information on how John Deere views "warranty issues' when hooking up a third-party hydraulic kit to a tractor that's still under the original warranty? Thanks again!

Hopefully this hasn't been asked already: I am leaning towards the extension hose options - mostly for a top link at this time. Excellent video Tim! I'm salivating over that front & rear solution. I didn't understand the controls though. From what I could tell you have 3 rear and 1 front, but you had 2 sets of buttons (for 2 valves) and 2 switches. Are those switches rocker switches? I was thinking you needed two switches just like the two buttons on the joystick for each valve, but if so then you are missing a set of switches for valve 4. Sorry if my question is clear as mud.

  • @TractorTimewithTim

    @TractorTimewithTim

    2 жыл бұрын

    Ok, I get your confusion. We have 4 sets of controls in total. 2 of them are on the joystick (the 4 buttons) the other two are the momentary switches on the box. On the rear of the tractor, we have 4 valves total. 3 with connectors for the rear. One (the elbows) will be routed to the front for grapple. The joystick will control the front one, and one of the rears. The momentary switches will control the other two rear valves. I hope that helps to explain it.

    This was indeed a very helpful summary. I purchased the OEM Kubota kit for adding front hydraulics to my BX23S. It was a bit over $700 and a project, albeit manageable, to install and is very nicely integrated. Don’t understand why they don’t make one for the rear (eg for hydraulic top link). The EVK2-2 kit looks like the best solution but I know it has been designed primarily with the Deere 1025R in mind. I am concerned that the hoses and mounting will not be quite right for the Kubota, particularly keeping in mind the backhoe attachment and the (miserable) seat swivel requirement and clearances required. Your advice there would be most appreciated as well as a source for a suitable hydraulic unit to replace the manual top link. Thanks and best wishes for the holiday season! Very sorry to hear about Martha’s tail. I would really miss not being able to stroke our cat’s tail which (I think!) she likes.
