CHONG PANG MARKET - SINGAPORE - 1968
Chong Pang Market in Singapore in 1968 was a popular Sunday gathering place where Singaporeans would meet on their day off to purchase their provisions for the week. This large street market was an Aladdin's Cave where locals would mingle, a colourful period in Singapore's history where different races would happily mix proud to wear their national costumes. Chong Pang Market was a kaleidoscope of colour, a mosaic of faiths and races, a multi racial society from all over the globe.

Me too ! Just further up the Thomson Rd at the Naval Base : My RFA officer colleagues and I rented a house in ChongPang during the refit, in Sembawang Shipyard, of RFA Stromness in 1969-70 ,I think. One £pound would buy you 7.4 Sing dollars back then. Today one£pound will get you just 1.7 Sing $ ..if you're lucky ! I finally moved out to Penang in 2007 on retirement : Indeed so many happy memories ...A remarkable video taking us down memory lane ...
1968, the year I was born. This is amazing to see how people those days leads their daily routine. Thank you for the nostalgic video.
Amazing 🙋🇸🇬
Was this shot on 16mm or 8mm film? Looks like 16mm but a second copy of the original.
Nice. No wonder they erected a statue of an old man with a straw hat carrying a pole with two loads at the ends. I like the narration of this video and not the sleep inducing accents of local production during that era
How about Samsui womens...
