Really nice breakdown, lots of good insight! I know it's not the emphasis of the video, but I thought the Choi counterattack medley at the end was pretty interesting too- I know it's lefty-lefty but his counters pretty much all came with plenty of piste behind him and when Llavador was really trying to push forward and dominate the 6 line and finish in Choi's 4. They weren't last-resort counters, they weren't counters into a low-line prep, or if Llavador hid his blade in 4- it was ONLY when he had that big 6. It really seemed like Choi keyed in on maybe Llavador preferring to finish THROUGH people rather than place the point when his blade was in that spot. It really only left Llavador with the slow march which he seemed less comfortable with (and obviously forced things into Choi's attacks dictating the action as you detailed). I just thought it was interesting since at high level you generally don't see counters utilised as a tactical "Plan A"!

I know that feeling of Llavador: getting hit time and again with counters. AARRRGGGHHH!!!

Could you do a video of successful strategies or hits against passive marches? People thwarting garozzo and Choi etc? It'd be a really helpful study, personally.

the 10-5 touch for choi where Llavdor wanted video, was certainly correctly given to choi. Attack from llavdor falls short, Choi begins his own attack which is instantly finished. Attack no, attack reprise la gauche touche twa.

6:48 Feels like Llavador was able to pull that out because Choi didn’t want to finish and did a 60% simple attack instead

Yes agreed Choi let him get out. I wouldn't say Choi didn't want to finish at all, more that he's happy to take the low chance of hitting on the short finish, since it has a basically 0% chance of him getting hit himself and leads to his defense (which has been more than 50% in his favour during the bout.) It's the same short finish as the first one Choi did in the video. Since Llavador went in on the first touch, the safe, low percentage finish from Choi landed then. What's nice about it is that Choi gains a lot of piste space coming forward if they take the option he gives them to pull him short. Great system from Choi
