Chocolate Cream Pie - The Hillbilly Kitchen
I only make a chocolate cream pie every couple of years, so when I do it's a real treat. I like to top my pie with meringue, and that guarantees that there won't be any pie left over because everybody will devour it like a pack of ravenous wolves.
Ingredients:
2 cups - Milk
1/4 cup - Corn starch
1/3 cup - Cocoa
1 1/2 cup - Sugar
2 tablespoons - Butter
3 - Egg yolks
1 teaspoon - Vanilla
1 - Baked pie crust

Every recipe I've tried is amazing!!! Am from the south and love that you are too. I enjoy your Bible verses and comments about them. You are a wonderful mentor! Thanks Becky
Oh my goodness, Becky!!! I have been searching for this recipe for years since my Grandma Ollie passed away. She always made this for me during the holidays. 💖 I made it tonight, not the whole pie, just the filling, to see if it had the flavor I remember so well. And it is exactly like hers, and DELICIOUS!! I'm so happy I don't know what to do!!! Thank you soooo much for sharing this! Big hugs! 🤗
Your pudding recipe is fantastic! I’m the best grandpa ever to my grandson and two granddaughters!
Thank you so much for this. I’m 46 and this is the first time ever I’ve made a “homemade” chocolate pie with the meringue. Your video walked me through the whole thing.
Just like my mama's she made the best and the prettiest meringue you ever seen, blessings from Tennessee

+Rebe Ruth My Aunt Dot, my mom's sister, was the pie maker in our family. Her meringue was a work of art. God Bless You!
My grandmother used to make this when my mom and I would visit her in Little Rock. I was a little girl (a long time ago) but I still remember how delicious it was. Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories!
Your pie recipe is outstanding! Thank you for sharing it with us. I have one tip though that might help make it a little easier when combining all of the dry ingredients into the milk on the stove: Mix the sugar, cornstarch, and cocoa together very well with a whisk first. The abrasive crystals in the sugar will break up all the lumps in the cocoa and cornstarch and they will be lump free going into the milk. Just makes the process a little easier, that's all. Again, the pie is DELICIOUS and it will be made several more times down the road!

Thank you :) Most of the time I use my 4 cup measuring cup. I put the sugar in then add the cocoa and corn starch, give it a stir and dump it in. Everything was separate because I was making the video and I went brain dead so I added it separate. That is an excellent tip and I works great :))

Thank you so much Paul for this great tip! I'm making this pie for Thanksgiving! I have used Becky's chocolate cream recipe before,, My son don't care for meringue, So after the pudding cooks for a bit, I blend in a good amount of Reddi Whip cream ( The one in the can) This makes my pies even lighter & Creamier.! I don't use cool whip anymore,,It has too many additives,,Not good for us. GOD bless you,,Thanks again!

Thank you so much Becky for this great recipe! I discovered it last year sometime. My son & I love chocolate pie..Home made is the best! I lost count of the times I made it,, Holiday favorite! Since my son don't care for meringue,,I used the canned Reddi Whip cream in the can..After the pudding cools a tad, I just liberly shoot the cream to it! Oh so delicious! Making one tonight for Thanksgiving tomorrow! ,, Most likely we'll have a piece before then :) Love your precious personality & Videos! Feeling right at home.. GOD bless you & family more abundantly. Peggy..From the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Thanks so much for your easy-to-follow lesson. I've never been much of an expert in the kitchen and literally sobbed with joy at tasting this recreation of what my Grandad used to make (like you said, he'd make at least 4 pies at a time 'cause they'd go so quick!) I've used and referred back to this video at least a dozen times since discovering it over a year ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The key to NEVER suffering even thinking about cocoa LUMPS...and it's much faster too...Is to mix the sugar and Coco together (and any other dry ingredients but NO FLOUR) together FIRST. THEN ADD MELTED BUTTER. I was taught to MELT the Butter and pour it into the dry ingredients, sugar and cocoa (and any other dry ingredients it's a breeze. The sugar breaks the clumps of cocoa up. Use the back of a large spoon to break any stubborn ones. Most people do the milk and cocoa first and it terrifies new cooks especially, thinking they've already done something wrong. It work in every cocoa dish with a lot of liquids. This has worked for me ever since the first time when I was about eight or nine. That was 6 decades ago!haha. I love your show and it brings back lots of sweet memories. Your meringue is perfect! Your cooking is the way I was taught to cook and I've always been proud to say that I'm a "Mother's Knee" cook, meaning I was hardly taller than my mother's knee when I started cooking along with her. Saturday's were our special deserts day. My Dad loved all my mom's cooking but her sweets were out of this world. This pie is an All Time Family Favorite.
Thank you Becky for this recipe. I made it this morning for our dinner later. I could not make the meringue though because I did not have cream of tartar. I’m learning. May the Lord bless you and keep you ❤
My very favorite pie! Never cared for the meringue topping, just the chocolate and crust. Now thanks to You I can make it myself.
mix cocoa and sugar dry and it will go right in milk

I wish I could make them as good as my Aunt Dot. She was a pie master 😋 Thanks for watching. God Bless You!!!
I cut the sugar down to 1 cup and it was still plenty sweet! Delicious results. This is my favorite video for chocolate pie. Thanks!!
This pie brings back childhood memories. My mom ALWAYS had meringue on her cream & lemon pies. She mostly made coconut cream & lemon meringue pie. Everything was made from scratch…she used a double boiler when making the fillings. The meringue looked at least 8” tall🤣🤣🤣🤣…0f course it wasn’t…it was more like 4” - 5” high. I was an adult with a child of my own before I knew grocery stores sold frozen pie crusts😵😂 This is a great recipe from long ago for sure♥🫶👀
Just made this for my husband for his birthday and it was amazing 😀 I did it just like you did..thank you for all the tips.. I have tried this more than once first time 😅😜 God Bless you for your help 🙏💞
My mom used to make me a little dish of left over pudding. This reminds me of her so much. Thank you
Thank you for this recipe. My mom made this for us as a treat for years. She always made merengue for this pie too.
Watching your videos I made this delicious chocolate pie including your pie crust AND the merengue on top! It was beautiful and delicious! I was so proud of myself!!! Thank you!

Becky, My dear mom made chocolate pie the exact same way. Looks just like it! My brother could've eaten the whole thing in one sitting. Thank you for the sweet memories!! I remember how much I loved the meringue topping! Haven't had a pie with it on top in years. Thanks again! I'll be making this puppy!!! God bless!
Hillbilly Kitchen Verses and Vittles. I needed this demonstration for chocolate cream pie. Thanks
I've made this pie several times now. It always turns out great! I have learned from experimentation that if you make a sugar free version using splenda or truvia, you will need to increase the amount of those to get to the same sweetness level that the 1 1/2 cups of sugar makes it. The measurements are supposed to be interchangeable with sugar according to the packages, but it does take more.
There is nothing better than a chocolate meringue pie thank you Miss Becky
If you put the corn starch , sugar and coco in the pot first then add the milk slow and mix while you pour the milk slowly in it will all mix in together. You cook it just like you making pudding. Lol
Mmmm. Yes. Just like Momma’s and Grandmom’s except they used unsweetened chocolate instead of cocoa. All good chocolate! Thanks for the tutorial and renewed precious memories. :)
My favorite pie. Love it!
I just made this pie last night and it was delicious! Thank you for the recipe. It tastes just like my aunt’s.
Thank you for thank you for teaching me how to cook my brain slow thank you for being my teacher have a good day
My mom used to put the extra pie filling in a little bowl for me. I miss my mom and those days so much.
This is almost like my Mom and Mamaw used to make only difference is they used flour instead of corn starch. This really looks good. Thanks and God bless

My favorite pie!
Hi Becky. I probably have at least 10 recipes of Chocolate Cream Pie recipes in my recipe box. In mine and my mamas pursuit to find the perfect pie there was always something about each one that we didn’t like: (either didn’t set, too chocolately, etc). I decided to give yours a try. Oh my Goodness..What a Difference your pie truly is. Perfect Amount of ingredients. What surprised me is No Flour (cornstarch takes its place) and you add everything to the Cold ingredients up front. I found this a much easier and foolproof method. I even had enough left over for a small cup of pudding. LOVE this Recipe, it’s definitely in my Top 3. Now I’m going to see if you have a Coconut Cream Pie recipe. Thank you Becky. Love your Channel and have been subscribed for the last 5 years and watch everyone you post. Looking forward for more great recipes. Much Love from Texas.
Great recipe Blessings Becky🙏🥰❣️💛💚

Thank you for this recipe. This is my absolutely favorite pie, although being from the north, we always had it with whipped cream (my mother always bought it from the bakery) so I am looking forward to trying it with the meringue. Also, thank you for the cooking tips you mentions while cooking. They do help a lot.

Tip: if you gently heat about 3T of the milk and work the cocoa into it to form a paste, it will incorporate much easier.

I thank you for confirming the chocolate pie recipe. My granny passed away and l have only 2 cousins who had the recipe. I was guessing it was made like the banana pudding and you confirmed it. I just don't know how to make the meringue
