Can we talk about how black girls cant be normal, awkward, or cute? Like we all have to be either mammies or sensual goddesses and most of us simply do not fit stereotypes we are just normal people

I’ve been saying this because I think I fall under that “category” ( if we are going by their standards) and people see it as you are still being a child. It’s like classy is seen or not showing skin means you aren’t grown. Lol so I definitely agree with this.

I'm just tired of the over sexualization of black women. The whole notion of "sex sells" seems to be the only formula for *black* women success. Meanwhile, Taylor swift's, Adele, Billie, etc are getting more views by doing a whole lot less. We need balance ASAP

  • @maga8008

There's honestly a lot of balance. Artists like tierra whack, H.E.R, Noname, Victoria Monét, Ari Lennox, BOSCO are really cool there just not incredibly mainstream. Black women have always been doing their own thing and I think that's what Chloe is doing too (albeit it's a little awkard).

I agree. Look at k pop. Rarely do the show skin and they get billions of views. The push for the overly sexy black women is turning people away. It's too forced to the point where it looks desperate. If it worked then more women would be doing it but it doesn't. People like a bit of mystery and innocence

Omg you're right I didn't even think ab Zendaya. She def has owned herself & her image. I was just saying that Rihanna, Teyana Taylor & Angelina Jolie all give me sex appeal. It's interesting, I've noticed that women who have experienced having a slight natural or tomboyish (for lack of better term) side/look have more natural sex appeal like Angelina's experience in Gia, & Zendaya's in Euphoria. It's like the femininity with a hint of masculinity gives them the perfect balance between beautiful & striking. Idk if sex appeal is androgynous in nature but they just have that je ne sais quoi that an overdone woman with lashes and ass shaking just doesn't have.

Honestly, as a straight man ( and some of my guy friends share the sentiment ) I really felt icky and grossed out stumbling upon some of her tiktok/instagram videos. Not because she's not a beautiful woman, but because it still feels so incredibly awkward coming from her, that I can't help but feel like I'm being an intrusive creep watching her do that. Be it peer pressure, industry pressure, or just some awkwardness, I feel like she should just be given the time to grow into this sexier image ( if she so chooses ) at a more appropriate pace.

Basically she's trying to act grown too fast, which is OK because it's normal especially for black women as we are grown into a society and culture that forces us to be grown early but that doesn't necessarily mean we are or ready for it, in many cases we aren't.

Black people that complain about the fact that other races of women do things like this disregard the fact that it's balanced for them. For every Kim Kardashian there's a Kelly Clarkson in other words they have the nice feminine representation as well. Black unambiguous women don't have much of that especially not in music industry.

Although she is an entertainer, it would come naturally that people who look like her would be presented in that manner that she portrays in that way. And no, there is no healthy balance in the black women community where we are represented sexually and feminine. However, Chloe is her own person and she should show her talents however she pleases to get her bag that she so rightfully deserve.

The community praising the constant oversexuslization of black woman should know how much it doesn’t benefits anybody but the artist itself. Not the community. While white women are celebrating sexuality and seeing it as a sexual revolution/liberation, I don’t think black women will get praised or respected for it. I really don’t know when will come the day a young black woman entertainer will find success without acting desperate. These type of missrepresentation continu to dehumanize us. For example the hit girl is never a full (looking) black woman at least not for longer than 15 minutes. when it comes to drama, romance , desirability etc. They keep recycling the Zendayas. That’s not how it works. I’m here for Chloe and her embracing her sexuality/womanhood but I feel like she’s trying hard to have sex appeal. I think the main thing is that she just doesn't seem confident in it. Her sister is exploring but looks confident. Why share or perform in a fashion that you aren't comfortable with at all? If you do things in front of an audience, you will garner critique. Criticism is even a profession that goes hand in hand with the performing arts. If you give a bad performance, critics will let you know. It's part and parcel of being a performing artist, a chef, a playwright. To be honest, the forced sensuality is reminiscent of someone that has gone through se×ual trauma. That thought saddens me.

She has yet to claim that power. Right now is is responding to the audience and not demonstrating her power over the audience. Self respect and how you carry and represent yourself to the world is more powerful than being who the world wants you to be. And that is where she is stuck. She is catering to the public and that can be a rollercoaster of emotions. You can't please everyone. She has to find herself. Stand firm in how she wants to carry herself and remain respectful and respectable. Two different things. She doesn't have to be perfect but embrace you imperfection and show your growth by your aligning your actions with your words. She is cringe AF. It just going to be part of her journey now.

There’s a lot of new “fans” that popped up once she started showing her sexy side but I don’t think those people are the ones streaming the music and actually supporting. So it’s like she made the video to thank US but the way she did it seemed like it was targeted towards THEM. If that makes sense. Like…. Why are you thanking your fans sexually? I too am a woman whos sheltered; only listened to Gospel, only watched G and PG movies, no make up except for chapstick, NO BOYS, didnt get out much and if we did it was always with a parent, and wore plats for most of my childhood and most of my teenage years couldn't do certain things and now am trying to find my own identity and explore myself (not really sexually) without veering too much to the left or veering from my values and what's right. And its tough. I got to say that I'm thankful for my parents keeping me from a lot of things that could potentially hurt us but it does have a negative effect as well. I too find myself wanting to be beautiful, more feminine, more savvy, and even sexy in some sense, see where I fit concerning men. Then again it seems like men don't approach me like that because Im not really a savvy or a fast girl. I have a baby face and sometimes may not always have the wherewithal or be very savvy in some situations so that make things much worse for me and because of that people treat me like as if I'm a child and feel like a second thought concerning men. And everyone raises a ruckus the moment I may ease a finger out of the box that peoole put me in. Its tough! I too am going through the "Chloe effect". lol I'm a young woman trying to find my way. I truly feel this video.

I feel the same way. You’ve really described how I’ve felt growing up and then when I went to college it was tough being around girl friends who had more of natural feminine appeal. I’ve tried to stay true to my morals for the most part but in finding my identity and transitioning into womanhood, I learned to just stay true to myself instead of trying to force being sexy like others who are deemed more sexually attractive. Men approach me regardless if I wear makeup or not, natural hair or weave or whatever because I remain classy and respectable. At the end of the day, don’t force anything it’ll come naturally. And take care of yourself

I don’t have a problem with a woman being sexual at all. But this doesn’t feel like she’s comfortable herself…like there’s people like Megan thee Stallion she’s super sexual but it feels like it’s natural to her, it doesn’t feel cringe because she’s being herself. Chloe is insanely talented she doesn’t have to do this at all imo. I’m from a strict Muslim background and I know a lot of girls in my community who when given the freedom act this way…it’s honestly her figuring out what she loves it’ll thaw out lol. I just hope she doesn’t lose herself or her dignity in the way. I’ll always love Chloe as long as she continues to kill it musically.

Especially when it comes to black female artist it feels like there is no balance. And unfortunately the few times us black men do gain the control we also put out smut type content.

You are right Tyson. Our Black entertainers have to do “the most” to get attention. Not saying some of these entertainers hate it (I know some enjoy showing this side of themselves), but it does get repetitive. I am a fan Chloe’s while in the group with her sister and as a solo artist. I am rooting for her and I hope she succeeds and do what she’s comfortable with. The problem I and I think a lot of others have is that this isn’t in addition to her talent, it overshadows it. She so worried about looking sexy it’s disrupting other things. Like her “feeling good” performance. She also doesn’t understand that there is a time and place. You don’t have to do this all the time. That vid definitely looked like a cam girl advertisement on pornhub.

Chloe will get the hang of it eventually lol. She’ll realize that sensuality isn’t about what you do with your body, it’s about your energy. Sensuality is subtle and flows easily not forced. Everyone has the ability to have sensual energy but it does take time. She can easily grab the attention of others because her whole being is beautiful but this is a new territory for her so it comes with the awkwardness. I understand where she’s coming from bc I was once a “good pure modest Christian” girl and being “sexy” was weird af to me 😂 but I got the hang of it and she will too ❤️💐
