In response to the negativity I've read in the comments, I hope to clarify a few things about TKD. Chloe and her sister are demonstrating muscle control, balance & extreme flexibility. Those aren't the moves they'd use in a real fight. I'm also a TKD black belt, and I can tell you that we learn many close combat self defense techniques that would be very effective in a street fight. We also use knee and elbow strikes like Muy Thai, it's in several of our patterns. Also in our arsenal are: Arm bars, joint attacks, throws, sweeps, pressure points and many other damaging moves that can be lethal. We're taught to try and avoid conflict, not use excessive force for something minor and to do whatever it takes if our life is actually being threatened. Eye gouging, ear clapping, nose breaking, knee cap destruction, finger breaking, to name a few. We do practice weapon disarmament and how to use a variety of weapons, should we ever need to. The Bo staff training can be applied to many long objects found around you. Like Batman, it's good to be prepared! What the Bruce sisters are showing, are elements of training in concert: the elements of "Dalyon" (maintaining equipment, our body is our equipment so you must keep fit and flexible), accuracy, speed and balance. It may not seem like there's power when a kick is really fast and really high. And high kicks aren't as powerful as a kick with the body behind it. However, the Bruce sisters would kick harder and would connect with their target if they needed to. The ability is there. And if they were breaking boards, they wouldn't be using their instep, they'd use the ball of the foot. More pounds per square inch (with their speed and precision) and they'd shatter the wood. TKD is proven to be very deadly and powerful, but the effectiveness of any technique by any martial artist (on untrained person) really depends on who's doing it. I have no doubt that Chloe and Grace Bruce could cause a ton of damage. It would be a mistake to underestimate them. As for their small size, they have enough skill to make that a non-issue. Martial artists that have knowledge and training experience help make them more confident and aware of their surroundings. They walk and act less like an easy target, thereby minimizing their risk of attack. I've never met any delusional martial artists that would expect a street fight to go down like a sparring match. We're trained, not brainwashed.

Sarah E omg thank you!! I hear people saying such negative stuff about them and taekwondo which really sucks because they seem really really good and taekwondo is amazing. People seem to think that black belts should know everything but in reality becoming a black belt just means that you have more to learn. It annoys me that people also think that taekwondo is all kicks but it really isnt. Sure kicks would be more useful in sparring but there are plenty of techniques that you mentioned that you use your hands for. You can do things like break someone's arm, different strikes, and blocks are all so important and people tend to over look them. Thank you for helping spread positivity on this topic :) (if you are wondering i am also a black belt :D)

As a former police lieutenant in the state of Texas I am so glad I got involved with martial arts training - Korean Taekwondo at the age of 13 because it gave me the confidence and ability to make effective arrests without having to hurt unarmed suspects. Not once did I have to revert to my stun gun or baton. I made it mandatory for my officers to train 3 times weekly and it cut down on suspects getting hurt. If all police agencies required their officers to have a minimum of 2 years specialized training you would see a different police in America today. One that is disciplined, one that can make effective arrests without hurting the suspect, and less shootings in general when it comes to unarmed suspects.

The higher you can kick with great balance and flexibility the more powerful, faster, and accurate you can kick in the lower ranges. The sense of super conditioning like this is not only empowering and confidence building, but brings a sense of achievement, discipline and physical fitness that is fun and spiritually uplifting.

Your students rock, I can see progression through the ranks and there is distinct skill difference between your upper and lower ranks. 3rd. You are a hell of a role model allowing other instructors in and expanding your students knowledge base, not all instructors have the confidence for that.

TV shows today like Legends of Tomorrow with Caity Lotz and the former NBC chuck with Yvonne Strohvoski are not only actors but are also black belts who do their own stunts on shows. I find those particularly amazing as they do both the acting and the stunts.

The best thing in a real fight situation is speed; first comprehending early that a violent situation maybe about to occur and be pre-emptive; second be a faster runner than your opponent. A real fight situation can be a life changing event over nothing; you are badly injured, you are killed or its your antagonist that receives these irreversible conditions. But even if you are the victor you still might end up in prison for a very long time, either way you won't be the same again. Best option is to avoid after that practise sprinting and running.

I have to say, I'm impressed with the Bruce's athletic ability; it shows what hard work and determination can accomplish. I am less than impressed with their martial art ability. They teach and demonstrate kicking techniques that are designed for demonstration and show, very similar to the Kukkiwon demonstration team (somewhat more impressive than these girls) I'm just worried that these young black belts will get into a situation where they think that flicking a bunch of fake dollyo chagis, balanced on one leg, is going to save them in a real fight, or even in a open tournament setting. If they're just doing it to further their career plans to get into the stunt person industry, then, good for them!

There's a reason why high-kicks are seldom used in Muay Thai -- it's because it is a high risk move. Often times when not landed it leaves you off-balanced or wide open to counter-attack. There is a reason why human beings have hands and arms you know. If you need to go to your opponent's head or body, "punching" guarantees the highest reward with the lowest possible risk. And if you need to go low, use low-kicks.

@@LionRVC1987 Apparently you can't fight or you wouldn't say stupid things like that. That's like saying the Chicago Bulls can always in six rings without Michael Jordan. People make styles not the other way around. I'm Taekwondo and I beat any style including Taekwondo.

Taekwondo is 80% feet, 20% hands. This is true but my Grand Master has a background in Kenpo and Akido. We win. I have street fighting and amateur boxing in my background. I can't be faded. The toughest styles out there are TKD, Shotokan, and Tang Soo Do. Also any of the Japanese Ryu styles. They'll beat anybody. I came in in my 20s thinking I was Bruce Lee because I saw all his movies and read all his books as a kid. Then I found out how hard TKD was. I moved up in the ranks quick after getting humbled by the TKD bullies. I was a blue belt taking out high ranking black belts at the blink of an eye. My instructors didn't put me out there because I didn't have insane skills. My instructors were the reigning champions in professional kickboxing (light heavyweight), also amateur heavyweight, welterweight and lightweight. They all had belts. Oh, they were brothers, white boys and Mexicans. My instructor was undefeated in full contact kickboxing, then, 26 and 0. Oh, I was their punching bag getting them reading for their fights. Master Cedric Robinson stressed that I use my boxing skills. Mind you me, kickboxing was way harder than boxing. The other top dogs at that time were Stan "The Man" Longinidis and Dennis Alexio. They were the last dragons of 100% hands and 100% feet. No one fights like that anymore...

Cool. I really enjoy watching it. Very impressive from an athletic perspective. Really! :) But I believe this is not so usefull in a fight. I think the speed and angles, where the kicks come from, would be their biggest advantage. But neither the height nor the rather negligible kicking force (from mass and muscle power) would be a stopper of an opponent. It also makes no sense to kick higher than the opponents head (except axe kick). Maybe in close combat, where one could try to hit the head by a vertical kick. But then in close combat standing on one leg with the other stright in the air, is no good idea, especially if you get grappled you'd lose definitely.
