I thought I was good a Chiv 2, always top 3 in TO 3:1 KD average, tons of multi-kills and ez 1v1 then I join a clan and got rekt by everyone. It's shocking how high the level is between 1v1 pro's and casual TO players, with high scores.

@Eric Peterson Idk if this is how he did it but there's an option which allows you to choose the side your attack comes from by aligning your move side and attack side so that if you move left you will attack left and vice-versa.

@Stridah's Angels Well eric up there asked how to counter swinging right to left and AFAIK if you have the option on and are moving in the right direction a counter should also be effected. Maybe this is a PC console thing too Idk if PC has different inputs or options for choosing side of attack.

In the past year since joining the Chivalry 2 community I have evolved from a newb just chucking attacks and holding down block to a better defensive player that utilizes counters and can hold his own against more experienced players. While I still have problems with footwork, I am learning and I have won fights by just moving aside or matrix dodging their slashes. I'm not the best player, far from it. But I am much better than I was thanks to these videos.

I started like 2 days ago and I suck at dueling but when it comes to team modes I mow people down it’s all about shifting momentum from one player to another 2-3 unexpecting players I literally rack kills up like that and when I fight I always quickly duck and walk to the same side as where I’m gonna swing from because most don’t expect it and if done right it helps hide your wind up for a heavy attack

Another tactic: Your downward chop still does damage for a half second or so AFTER the swing is done. So if you keep aiming your missed downchop you can SOMETIMES still score a hit just by reaiming it before the animation is fully over, it has a bit of a fraction of a thrust-like window after the drop falls.

Another thing I would add is when you are defending against multiple people try to follow the rule of never hitting the same person twice and target swapping (look at target A, walk at target A, swing at target A and turn to hit target B behind you with the end of the attack) should never be undervalued! It's crazy how many people you can pile together that all seem to take it in turns letting you slap them in the face with a shovel after they try to stab you in the back for those multikills

I have a related question - When should you be using an actual dodge, like the small dash laterally or backwards? I've noticed I lose my stamina a lot faster than my opponents and I think it's because of dodging frequently (Tendency from 1k hours in Vermintide lol). From what I've seen, experienced players don't do full on dodges very often, and will usually try to "walk-dodge" out of an attack if they can't counter or riposte it. Thanks a lot!

I think there's something special about the way this game plays but I can't explain it. Usually, I find myself turned off by the idea of really learning the deeper aspects of a game's techniques, I'm fine with just learning as I play and getting a little better each time the hard way. But Chiv feels like a game that invites you to go deep into the combat system and really learn what you're doing. I like that.

He just does attack feints and two-handed spear's animation is completely unintuitive. He just spins it in his hands and then hits me. I bet the animator's favorite ninja turtle is Donatello.

something that's been bothering me is that there is very little information on the man at arms subclass. one-handed with plenty of dodge, but what does that mean in the terms of a messy battlefield? it doesn't seem like they want to be in the thick of things as they want space to move around, and the general range of one handed weapons are not that great in terms of taking on several opponents. so what do they actually do and how do they function and what is their ideal position on a battlefield? in essence how do they take advantage of wielding a one-handed weapon and the ability to dodge more than others?

One handed weapons are the best 1v1 weapons. The range difference is a laughable attempt at balance when they do 5-10 less damage than their 2 handed counter part while also being twice as fast. If the range is a major problem for you try flanking or ambushing people to close the distance instead of a head on push

"Countering is the only way to actively regain stamina in the game" I mean, from what I can personally tell, it also looks like doing damage with a melee hit against an enemy also provides a very slight boost to stamina, so I don't think that wording is quite right. Then again, it's pretty insignificant when compared to what you gain from a counter, so it almost might as well be the case.

It's just like, come to think of it, maybe that's one way they've managed to make 1vMany group fights just a little bit more fair. Assuming it's multiplied and not still slight even in those situations, of course.

Love these videos! All these tactics are great and there is a learning curve but none of it really matters in public lobbies. The two biggest factors are frame rates. If I get good frame rates, my defense is good. If not, I can’t block much. It’s more like guessing when you see only part of the attacks and your movement feels super slow with opponents speeding there way to you making it super hard to guess distance. If the game is running well, these tactics work but it’s a total crap shoot on how the game runs. The game runs terribly on PS4. You can’t react to anything. On PS5, it is better but it’s also hit and miss. Next, mouse and keyboard…I haven’t played on PC and don’t like mouse and keyboard. But it definitely feels like so many moves you discuss are much easier to make and faster on PC. Maybe I don’t understand the speed mechanic but sometimes I experience players backing up faster than I can close distance. Personally, I’ve got about 500 hours on this game there is definitely a skill component but a much bigger factor in combat performance is how the game runs. Don’t get too cocky cuz you’re likely just slapping a player that is moving in mud or your seeing all the frames and they see only flashes. It’s hard to describe. I wish I knew a way to get some performance data on the game on console to verify. Internet connect and server side issues certainly exist too. I don’t think the tech is quite there for this game to be crossplay competitive with large lobbies yet. But it’s still fun.

idk on ps5 I only have lags and trouble joining on community servers, in TO is runs pretty smooth. The mouse+keyboard discussion is pretty wild because the only thing where I feel controllers are on a disatvantage are throwing stuff its kind of buggy on console but its not that bad. Just higher your right stick sensitivity and you are fine. I only play on 2x but a lot of people use higher sensitivity. Most stomps in 1vs1 are a skill factor besides the bad performence on ps4. Some people run faster then you because difference classes have different moves speeds for instance vanguard is the fastest and knight the slowest.

You can still know what your enemy is doing in front of you by the animations that are coming, but observe your surrounding for those sneaky bastards that love to get behind you and maneuver your character around as well. Also, you don't have to always fight. If you see 4 enemies pushing towards you and you know more will join, nothing wrong with pulling away and waiting for teammates 👍
