The heavy mace overhead to slash is money. I hadn't used it up until a couple months ago and now its my favorite 2h weapon for duels. (btw thanks for doing a dueling weapon tier list)

What I like a about the heavy mace being so good is that it’s controlling, but not oppressive in the way the messer is. When fighting a heavy mace you have to play by its rules, and outsmart the enemy using it, not feeding them ripostes, and playing counters so you don’t lose too much stamina yourself. Since it’s a little stubby the mace players do have to step in closer toward you, which makes jabbing more viable, and because there’s incentive for the mace player to hold block because of the stamina negation buffs, you can sometimes get some cheeky kicks for free damage. Compare that to the incredibly safe, yet extremely aggressive messer playstyle of footworking around basically underneath you and stabbing and overheading the bejeezus out of people for daring to attack them, it’s a breath of fresh air. I’ve always loved the heavy mace, and have been using it to smash through the shields one handed spear players hide behind, and it’s good to know it just got a lot more effective.

I'm fine with it being the best weapon, but it's stamina drain negation needs to be reduced from 20% to 10% or completely removed. It's already on the best subclass. Weapons like the halberd and spear are balanced because of the terrible class they find themselves on, but the heavy mace is just an amazing weapon on an amazing class. Just a little unfair

@@SoterDaveagreed, but I think the majority of the playerbase, which gives the finger to blunt weapons in favor of slash spamming, won’t jump on its newfound strength, and high skill duelists will probably keep using what they’re used to, the old reliable longsword, greatsword, or messer. The only place where it could be a problem is tournaments, but I feel like its biggest strength is entirely dependent on its negation and could very well just get outplayed. We’ll just have to see I guess, because I’ve probably only seen one other person using it in TO, about 3 in arena, and still sub-10 people using it in duel servers, from what I can tell it’ll likely remain as a quietly strong cannon that will never get proper usage because people play with what they know.

So, I've been dueling with the Maul only for the last few months and want to add some things: * I can't seem to block certain attacks. This usually happens with longsword and faster: Due to its slow animations, people can push out counters while I am still mid animation. If you just stubbornly input your counter the game will still eat it, even though it doesn't make any sense realistically, since I am still mid slow-mo swing. However for fast weapons, I seemingly can't even block their counters. Getting hit only happened for me for overheads. I am not sure if I do something wrong, I usually start holding block mid animation. That this usually only happens with longswords, makes me prefer fighting messers over them. * You can kick me and it will push me out of range of hitting you with certain attacks. This usually happens for overheads, and is a save interaction. * Your special is more important than for other weapons. You want to know when to use it, it isn't that hard to hit actually. * You really need to hit anything you throw out or be at a long enough distance from your enemy. You are stunned for a year for every whiff. It is so easy for the enemy to just dodge back and input a heavy overhead, and you can do nothing. If you notice your enemy dodging back from your attack, get distance from them immediately. Don't try to close distance with a feint, they are faster most of the time. Warclub either obliterates you, or is a very boring matchup of playing tag - depends on the skill of the other player. * The biggest behavioural change that improved my Maul play was just hugging enemies at all times. You want to collide with their character hit-box at all times, it makes things so much easier. This also makes it easier to sneak your attacks around their blocks. * Another thing that really improves your gameplay, is baiting out gambles. The number 1 thing people try to do against a maul player is gamble them, since against certain attacks you have to accel in order to hit them first, even though you should have initiative. Take longsword slash accels. This however can be used against them, simply by expecting it or even by not acceling the first 1-3 attacks deliberately. Most of the hits I get in are not because people misread my attacks or timings, but because I catch them trying to gamble or trying to outrange me. * Maul has some very nice feints into stabs with good range. It looks confusing, when morphing a seemingly long slash drag into a fast stab. Same for overhead. * Drags are actually not the thing that gets people. I myself never found drags hard to react to. I only consider them to confuse the rhythm or feint a stab/overhead into a long drag catching impatient players. Maul has nice 360° in theory, but your short range can make them easy to punish. * Accels on the other hand are amazing with maul.

I think it's perfectly rated! Everyone loves it!

Handle hits are manipulable and predictable and present on every polearm. It's technically present on more weapons, including axes, but only polehammer and halberd have extremely emphasized handle hits. They're much more visible and quickly abusable on polehammer due to the hitstop, but even the poleaxe can do them(normal slash handle hits seem to be anemic or mostly not present on poleaxe though). The alt slash is the best attack to handle hit with, however polehammer and halberd can consistently handle hit with both swings. Overheads can also consistently handle hit which offers some pretty disgusting mixups between delayed drags or secret accel by looking up. The ease of use of handle hits on polehammer imo should put it above battle axe at least though and maybe even 1h spear just due to the levels of trickery. Becoming more dangerous than most 1hs simply by getting facehugged is an incredible properly for any weapon, especially if you're playing range and enter the second phase of the boss fight when someone gap closes to wrench away combat momentum. I think the problem with polehammer is it is such a unique approach to the game that you can't directly apply skillsets to the same degree as you can when hitting 1h spear for matchup unfamiliarity. It's like poleaxe, undeveloped. 2hh also tends to handle hit slashes. Heavy mace was honestly superior at least at the level of the greatsword before being buffed. It has perfect hit to kills, always had amazing stam pressure, is fast, generally beats jab, and honestly I think Torn Banner should've just removed the stam negation line from the weapon rather than give it such an unnecessary buff. I like blunt weapons though so "lol, lmao".

I'm loving the falchion. I can get into a groove with that weapon.

Any tips for console vs computer duels? Some players I just can’t break there block, I swear at times a slash to the side where there weapon isn’t aiming there still managing to block the hit, very frustrating. Also any tips on dealing with spear stab spammers? I think I need a bit more practice 🤣

I just started playing and am lucky to win 1 in 10 matches. I need some in-person training. I get the concept of dragging but just can’t do it in the heat of battle. No matter what I do I can’t get the upper hand in matches.

I can pretty much only use shield and axe or shield and hammer, I beat pretty much everyone other than war club users who use that backwards dodge and I haven't been able to counter it, doesn't matter what level the player is I can be best by a level 20 using that play style or level 300, then beat the next level 300 who uses a different play style. I have no idea how to deal with them

with a shield in duels, yes. but the unfortunate reality is that the game isn't balanced around dueling, because they aren't that strong in Team Objective or Last Team Standing.

That's not how that works. The slashes on the spear can be countered with a stab, meaning it is easier to counter the spear because of this. Consider watching my video 'Dealing With Spear' where I explained this further

Not having the longsword in top tier is just wrong honestly. People do some downright bullshit stuff with it. Unreadable

Unfortunately very few people have been successful with it in top tier duels, so I can't rate it Superior. I've never lost in a duel tournament to a Longsword, so unfortunately it will stay in Great tier.

@Soter Dave bit late to this comment but how do you go about countering longsword users? I've been trying to get good on greatsword lately but it's been really frustrating that ls users can constantly make mistakes but the speed differential means I feel like I can't capitalize on it well. That and stab/overhead gambles can feel oppressive sometimes even if I read them in advance For context I am a pretty mid-tier player, I do pretty good in duel servers but get stomped by most of the actual good players I find lol

glaive needs to be changed to cut damage and increase its damage by 20%
