Thanks for a great video, I started to file square grind and really enjoy the cut . Just reaching out for FYI, most of my cutting involves hardwoods. My experience with this sharpening is less touch-ups needed between cutting periods as opposed to round filing, better chips and smoother running saw!! Thanks again for the " good 'ol boy" talk video Ont. Can.

I think I have the same info from Oregon regarding race chain. I run the rakers at .025” and use a “goofy” file. I use the easy to remember 45*~45*~45. It’s not perfect but very close. I tend to think the factory angles are quite good. The tooth don’t feel sharp but it cuts fast compared to round chain.

I cut fire wood in the hi desert,. Chain for me last 20-30 minutes. Then I gotta change it out. The sand wears everything out very quickly. The sand is embedded in the cedar bark. If you cut in the dark, you see a steady stream of sand shaped sparks coming out with the chips. The wood is so small you can't clean each cut. And, be so small of trees they are nearly all saw work.

I cut 5 cord for winter and most times thats it. I cut 20 cord and the wood for a wood shed 6x6,4x6,2x2 20 foot long 10 foot wide and whatever else I need and didn't put a file to the saw for 4 years.

Those files, or the ones that you can get today are quite expensive, do they last longer than a round file? What's nice is that you only need one file for both raker and tooth with this style of grind. And that was a very calm patient explanation, great video.

@@yankdoodlediesel2574 Yup, it's just a matter of time before I put a chain on and go at it, There is such a mix of stuff around here that I started using semi chisel, it just holds up so much better and takes a hit with way less consequence. Although it kind of sucks at bore cutting and is a bit slower but not enough to justify all it's benefits, I haven't even cared about full chisel, but if I'm going to use it on some cleaner wood, I'd like to give this a try. I'm just trying to get the best handle on how it needs to be before I go to town on a perfectly fine chain is all. I'm just cutting firewood for myself and some family while maintaining some property, so it's a hobby/ passion of mine but I like to know my craft as well.
