Ойын-сауық

Hello folks!

A very warm welcome back to What’s For Tea :) Today I made this amazing potato fritters! An absolute chip-shop classic! Thick fluffy sliced potato surrounded by a crunchy beer batter…these are so delicious! Perfect to eat on their own but often accompanied by battered fish or as I’m doing, in a white buttered roll with brown sauce! :)
Everything I used will be mentioned below incase you want to make these for yourself. Thanks for stopping by,
-Cheryl x

We are a US transplanted family from Greenock and my mom made these as a treat. But she called them “snacks”. She used self rising flour and just water, no beer. But they were soooo good and we LOVED when she made these. Thank you for the wonderful memories 🥰. I might have to give them a go again. 😋. Love your channel! ❤️

Tried the recipe for the "Tattie Fritters", used fizzy water for the batter and deep fried them in Beef dripping (we're from Yorkshire). What an absolute treat, followed the recipe as on the video with my method of frying but that's a personal choice. They were fantastic, crispy on the outside, the batter was perfect and so soft on the inside. A big thanks for the KZread video, everyone should try it, you won't be disappointed. I will try the batter with a good beer next time, just to see if they can be even better, although I doubt it. Very well done!! We love 'em.

Sue Whitty ..... make potato rissoles ... used mashed potato, plain no butter or milk , mash really well ! Chill in fridge then form into logs and roll in fish dressing think it was paxo ? Orange color .....bake in a 350 oven until golden and firm ! Made some for grandkids recently they loved them ! Used left over mashed potatoes , ( it did have butter ). Turned out fine ! Make salmon cakes mixing in salmon to potato but no butter ! Form into patties , chill , dip in fish dressing or fine breadcrumbs and bake on parchment paper. ...350.

Thank you and congratulations Cheryl! Your fabulous tattie fritters have made themselves known here in Mexico, and my wife and I are delighted. They remind us of Japanese tempura. I am a Welshman. As a kid in the 60s and 70s I´d watch my Dad fry up "scallops" - slices of potato similar to those in this video. But he didn´t make any batter for them. I´m a homebrewer so I´ll always have some nice beer to use for these. Who knows when we´ll next be able to party. But the next time my wife´s family has a Xmas knees up, I´ll be blowing them away with a giant bowlful of What´s For Tea? Tattie fritters!!! All the very best from Tepetlaoxtoc, Mexico.

Cheryl!! Such a strange coincidence just happened to me. This weekend I was craving deep-fried battered potatoes that I used to get from a take-away shop 40 years ago when I was away at University in a small town in Wisconsin. The shop did fried chicken, but they would also dip slabs of potato in the chicken batter and deep fry them. Very unique and not really found in the U.S. And today, this 3 yr old video of yours showed up in my youtube feed! I am a subscriber, and watch your current videos... but today KZread gave me this gift in answer to my random nostalgic craving!! ❤🥰

I've never heard of these...but you had me at soft roll and brown sauce. 😀 I grew up with Scottish grandparents who instilled in me a deep and abiding love for chip (french fry) sandwiches on soft white bread. I will definitely be making these fritters. ❤❤

WOW yum 😋 Ok.....I'm a year late seeing this video but so worth it. For starters I could listen to you speak all day long I just love your accent. You have brought back teenage memories when we would go to the local fish & chip shop and get a potato fritter roll.....it did have tomato on it but I tell you.....it was unbelievable. I am so excited to make these. Love from an Irish girl in Australia 💚

Haven't had these in years. Local chippy in South Dublin used to serve them and I remember the chippy in Stowupland, Suffolk, did as well. Even the local take away in Auckland, New Zealand, had them. Make a nice change to chips with your battered sausage or fish. Thanks for both the memory and the recipe. I feel battered sausages and potato fritters appearing for Saturday night tea shortly. You have a new subscriber, just through appearing with this recipe on my trending list, which I don't normally look at anyway but who can resist potato fritters.

Every chippie in Scotland sells fritters. You can't really avoid them.

When I was knee high to a grasshopper in the mid 1950's Scallops as they were known then, where sold in chippies all over Liverpool. They were covered in a beautiful formulated batter and deep fried in a very hot Lard, not like todays cheap tasteless so-called cooking oils. Shame its almost disappeared from the chippies down South of England. Have to give them a try and make some myself but using Lard instead of Rapeseed or similar oil and maybe experiment with adding some cayenne or chilli pepper aswell to the batter. MMmmmm. Great video by the way. Brought back super memories. 🥔😋
