it's hard to believe that Andy was Kyle! I barely recognize him as Emmett! guess that's the magic of acting! Christian Borle is still my fave Emmett, tho. :-D

this is the first understudy for Christian where I wasnt cringing the whole time watching it. I actually really like him.

Still kinda cringing but it's watchable and I don't hate it

I know this is all about Andy and I LOVE Andy, but I also love how LBB says "What are you doing?" at 3:44. Kind of different from the way I've heard her say it before.

i really liked it! Christian is Emmett sure, but Andy was really sweet!

Probably too hot to play Emmett! Haha I love Andy Karl. Can definitely see him as Warner though.

I love how Bruiser looks over at Emmet at @5:28 As if he also is like "What? You mean I don't get to go home?" So Cute!

It must have been difficult to play opposite different leading men in the same show, but that's why it's called acting right? haha, can't be so rehearsed that you don't react in real time. Props to them all!

He's good but Christian's delivery of the lines were so much better. He lacks the humor that Christian had.

Comedy is hard. Timing is very important and that comes with time and practice. Andy only played the role a couple of times so he wasn't as polished obviously. I bet if he had more time in the part he would have handled some of the lines differently. He's been funny in other shows he's done.

Boy the context of Emmett meeting Paulette in this scene is so weird when it's Andy Karl, Orfeh's husband, in the role.

Do you have any videos of Andy as Callahan?

Question: When the understudies are playing main roles, who does THEIR original parts? Example: in this video, who is playing Grandmaster Chad/Dewey/Kyle while Andy Karl is playing Emmett? I've always wondered this...BTW I don't think the understudies do as well as the main character actors...For me, Christian Borle will always be Emmett ;P

Kinda a late reply, but there are other actors called Swings whose jobs are specifically to be on the ready for (usually multiple) roles for when an understudy has to step in.

actually those were just on his days off, Christian Borle (The OG Emmett) actually stayed until it closed meanwhile Laura Bell Bundy (The OG Elle) left before and her replacement didn't live up to her legacy so it closed 3 months later.

I think you can clearly see that Andy and Laura don't have the same chemistry and Christian and Laura have(he did cheat on his wife with Laura after all). Look at how Andy looks at Orfeh as Paulette(whether it be him as Kyle or as Emmett) and see the genuine smile he gives her.

Nicole Foster you can't make statements like that without knowing the circumstances... I heard that Sutton was cheating on Christian with her Young Frankenstein co-star but that doesn't take away that fact that both Christian and Sutton are incredibly talented. (Also it happened 9 years ago)

The awesome moment when I learn that Andy Karl is the nephew of the lady, that I sit next to at my college. ^_^

I don't know why I think that there's a huge gap between them, but Andy and Christian are only a year apart in age. And Christian is older.

Mehhhh. Andy is super amazing at Kyle/Dewey/Jamaican Guy. XD; Emmett can't be THAT hot, I mean, come on. ;D LOL "I'M LOVING IT. ... YEAH!" So different from Christian's Emmett.

The white dude with the Afro was the main Emmet understudy, and he was also on as Emmet during Annaleigh’s performance as Elle (no pics or vids, but there are several audio recordings throughout that performance)

It seems to me that Andy picked up on Christian’s acting choices for Emmett and used them, their acting is very similar from what I can see

IMO Andy Karl plays better off Becky Gulsvig - he and Becky have the same kind of wildfire chemistry that LBB and Christian do. But I love him here bc his take on Emmett has always been my favorite - CB was a little too OTT for me (as was LBB) and I prefer Andy's and Becky's versions of their characters. Still really good though!! And ofc LBB and CB are THE OGs for always.

His Emmett reminds me of Ben Walker's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

One of the swings, they're basically extra understudies that cover multiple tracks like ensemble members, secondary characters etc. However the actor for Carlos also understudies Kyle so it might've been him and a swing play Carlos

ngl Andy's way too buff for Emmett

See this they are both individually good....but no chemistry compared to Christian and Laura
