Chip Foose Reveals Eldorod Last Car Drawn For Boyd Coddington

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Chip Foose of Foose Designs unveiled the new and improved Eldorod a 1948 Cadillac that was originally built by Boyd Coddington. The Eldorod was the first car Chip ever sketched for Boyd and the last car to leave the Boyd's garage.

Some years ago i was in holliday in the usa, it was a great vacation! But the best thing happend in the end of the hollyday, i was in LA, and i had to see the shop of Chip Foose! So my wife and i drove to his shop, and just stood in front of his gate. A guy that i new from Overhaulin was there, and he said just wait for 15 minutes Chip will come, and let you in, ok? YESSS! 15 minutes later Chip walks to us, where you from, Holland sir. Wow, come in and ill give you the full tour! He showed us everything including the Eldorod, that he was modifying. We where there for at least 1 hour, we talkt a lot about his cars, but he was very intressted in us. We took a picture with Chip, and chook hands, he was Great!! A realy nice guy, no fake person what so ever! It was a epic day!! Thanks Chip!

I got to meet him at a hotrod swap meet in Kalamazoo, MI back in 2011. We were both running booths there, so neither one of us had a ton of time, but he was extremely nice, I got to shake his hand & chat a little about his time at Boyd. He offered to let me get a pic, but I didn’t have a camera. I said to him, you just became this weekends big fish story, he got a good laugh out of that!!

I met Foose a few years ago at Year One. It was the day they showed the "Bandit" . I was there with a few of my friends that have Grand Prixs ('97-'03 body). Mine is a '99 GTP. We weren't in the show. Just hanging out. Sat there and watched him sign autographs and when the line ended I walked over and said "Hi".He said:" Do you want an autograph?" I said "I don't do the autograph thing. I just want to shake your hand." The look on his face was priceless!

I owned a cabinet shop and had a bunch of fabricators work with me over the years. Regardless of how hard I tried or what I offered they all went out on their own. Not once did I hold it against them. They became friends and we worked together over the years on larger jobs. Without our continued relationships there were a number of jobs I would not have been able to do. When I moved and shut down one of the most talented craftsmen called me and expressed how much he appreciated our relationship and said his one regret was not staying and partnering with me instead of opening his own shop. I cherish that moment.

It's a business. Nothing gets done for free. It's not slapping paint on a canvas. The rods takes many people doing multiple, sequential steps. And it doesn't start until a customer puts up front money. Design is just a drawing. BC was more of an engineer than Foose. Foose attended design classes. He isn't an engineer or a machinist. The comments I've read over the last 5-7 videos are by cretins. ZIP KNOWLEDGE about what's involved..

As a struggling Graphic Designer, I've always considered him as one of my biggest influence, and just like Foose, I also started drawing at the age of 7. I have a 2010 Ford Focus SES in which I've made it into a tribute car to Paul Walker, it's based on that 1970 Escort MK-1 his character drove on Fast and Furious, but I 've sketched out the car first in Illustrator and called it "Tha Busta" and I made it into a fruition.

In my opinion, based on what I have seen him do, I have no doubt that given time, Chip Foose has the skill set to do ALL of the work needed to build any of his cars. member548 And Chip's artwork. His renderings, he's an amazing artist. And to go out and shape the car, himself, out of what was once only in his mind's eye, is truly remarkable. Some things on Overhaulin, things the average person would never notice, he does. Like when he cut the flares on a late 70's Trans Am to match the body molding. Or shortening bumpers, when he says, "Things the designers would have done if they could." Made me a fan.

You can clearly see why Chip is so respected, not only for his unique talent and abilities but for his heart and compassion, he acknowledges everyone that collaborates with him, he always comes last, he thanks everyone that help him and the suppliers and sponsors, owners previous and current. He is a class act. You can see how his emotions run high with his voice cracking saying thank you for the opportunity. That is huge, he has raised the bar to great levels. Some other shops have increase their game and are making amazing thing, Ring brothers, to mention one that make amazing cars, but they are arrogant and even cocky, but Chip is just so humble.

Boyd needs to realize that he is nothing without the employees that have the skillsets. He needs to learn how to respect the people that enable him to pay his bills. These are not the things Boyd does, Boyd treats everyone as if they are beneath him. Boyd hires incompetent and unskilled people (duane) as buffers to place between himself and the people that earn his money for him. He also uses Duane to create an air of discontent to cover the fact that he is irresponsible with the moneys he gets from the customers. Every single talented person that Boyd was lucky enough to get to work for him has been driven away because he has no idea how to be a decent and respectful person towards others. This is just an observation from someone that used to watch the show. Seriously if I ever got saddled with a manager like Duane I would probably end up in prison for beating the ever loving dogshit out of him.

You realize Boyd passed away in 2008? He was a great friend and builder. Like many of us in this business, our talents lie with cars. We struggle with people skills and the basics of running a business. We miss Boyd everyday, but grateful he gave so many of us a chance to learn from him.

Collision Hub Nah, don't do that. Don't try to turn a piece of shit into a saint because he's dead. He treated people like shit because deep down inside he knew he himself was a piece of shit. He made a few drawings and was fortunate enough to have been surrounded by people that had actual talent. Many scumbags do the same thing. What about Duane his #1 guy, one would expect the best guy on his crew to have shined like a star if he truly was selected as the best from his peers, that wasn't the case though. Duane and Boyd shared the same self loathing and derived pleasure from making everyone else miserable. Boyd is in hell now learning the things that I have just told you. Figure it out for yourself before it's too late.

Boyd was a legend in his own right...yes, he did get away from being hands on which a lot say was his downfall. But he did build some stunning cars. that's what it's all about in the end.

  • @sidebarrecon2201

You guys do know that Boyd Coddington did not design or build the Eldorod. Chip Foose did as the last car he did while working for Boyd. All Boyd did was put his name on it. Boyd was a marketer not a designer. He was best known for his interiors during the 60's and 70's. Boyd Coddington steering wheels were in all the custom cars of the day. Then he branched out in to custom aluminum wheels. He did an occasional car but that was not what he was known for.Ever notice on the show how the cars were designed on a computer? Just like OCC's bikes are? There Was no designer at Coddington's after Foose left. You ever see how it was done? They have a picture of a stock car that they are going to build on the screen. On the side are different design queues that have been done to them. The computer guy then goes through the list a picks and choses, He puts the cursor on an item clicks down and moves it to the stock car. It then takes shape on the car. After he's satisfied with it, he prints it out and sends it to the shop to build after Boyd looks at it. That's like going to a Harley dealer and picking out factory custom parts. Where is the human thought process? Yes the cars look good, they should they have every pat design on them, that people have liked in the past but there is no imagination.

  • @toustic

so... because you see an edited version of the designing process you think they don't do it by hand? For a fact, there are episodes where we see the designer draw as he takes boyd's indications. You're a moron for thinking a car just spurs out of a computers program. most of his cars were requested by the client. therefore there was an existing base provided by customer, and boyd put his touch to it with the help of the designer. Just cause Spielberg can't engineers special effects himself, doesn't mean he doesn't have the exact vision of the desired product in his head

Seb D Face it, Boyd was a self centered jerk. Dave Kendig builds cars that as good or better than what Boyd built. And there's no soap opera type drama. So Foose isn't the only nice guy builder. And Dave free hand draws his designs just like Foose does. Plus they have a good time building them. You watch the other builder and you will find Boyd isn't the Normal. That Cuda Kendig built was bad Ass.

Seb D When you saw Boyd, he was burned out. Living on borrowed time, a bad heart, high blood pressure, a triple by pass. This all came out after his death. He knew he was at his end, when he closed the wheel shop, and let top employees go. He was just using his past reputation. And Boyd was known for billet interior parts, Steering wheels, window cranks, door handles. ect. These items were not cheap. A Boyd steering wheel could set you back 1500.00 He sold hundreds of them. And Boyd never was a car designer, why do you think he hired Chip Foose? And then a computer graphics guy?

sidebar recon I guess I just have a different view and respect for self made people in the creative field. I guarantee you that most your life heros. .. if you were to get a camera on them for a few years... you'd switch opinion on most of them too. It's the same reasons why i aways had te highest regard for Michael Jackson. I don't care for everything I've learned from those that forgot to care about anything else than his music. Because he was an great artist and that's what he cared to be. And Boyds work throughout the years made a name for himself in hot rod. I respect his creativity, his dedication, and his vision. Even if it meant bulldozing people from time to time but always showing appreciation to his team. Steve Jobs enters the same category. I could care less for what this show teaches me. His cars are all that matter. The rest is just white noise to me.
