If you look close enough you see that he in fact throws the grenade into a very small hole by his feet, the grenade then rolls down the small hole into the much larger shallow hole that you see the explosion from

The only benefit I see from this form of exercise is to teach soldiers to not be afraid to die. There's better ways to simulate pressure and coordination.

its fake if you look at the last clip the guy who throws the grenade drops it by his feet and is still there after the explosion my bet is a small explosive charge in the hole thats detonated at the right time by someone of camera I'm assuming it was/is some kind of propaganda/political stunt

It is an entirely different culture, what you might find stupid they could find it to be a way to train for battle. They might see it as an exercise to keep you ready if a grenade is thrown at you, or to keep calm if something like so is done

+Hulk The narration says that it's limited to special forces. In other words the average Chinese soldier doesn't have to do this sort of thing. It's only the elite soldiers that have already undergone intense training already that do this regularly and it's done so to create an atmosphere of genuine life-or-death danger during training. I'm sure that the explosives aren't that deadly, and that medics are nearby in case of failures. There's probably a lot of details not being shown immediately on screen.

⁠I don’t know, the commie Chinese are about as stupid as you can get. I don’t really care enough to look it up but I bet big money the vast majority of the army can’t even read or write, they conscript mostly rural peasants that lack basic western or Russian elementary level schooling. None of the rich commies are going to be conscripted, they probably at the most go to the officer core. Once your officers and NCO’s are fully in step with the general corruption with plagues china, they no longer become a threat in the conventional sense. We have modernized beyond human wave attacks, and the Chinese do have some good technology that they adapted from stolen stuff, but If we don’t wait 10 years to finally take them on we will definitely whip the chinamen to submission.

so it's fake? the second one falls by his feet and the center hole explodes. also if they were handling live grenades in sure they'd be panicking and move faster handing it to the next soldier. this is just a show, no live grenades are handed to one another just the center gets detonated. it's a show of power I guess

Even as a civilian with no war experience, they weren't passing a real grenade, and I don't think you're supposed to throw a grenade with two hands. I would have thrown it to any of the surrounding groups playing hot potatoes. LOL. Realistically, I'll throw it away from the group instead of passing it back to the one who passed it to me, or the person behind me. What a bunch of idiots.
