I am a machinist. Built my own small steam engine. I love this stuff...can't get enough. Steam is still king. People don't realize...between gas turbine engines, and steam turbine powered power plants, it's still used today. All over the world. Love it.

JohnnyQ90 I will be brutally honest about this, you could have built a better engine then that with your eyes shut and your hands tied behind your back!!! China is a waste of an economy, and that engine was a waste of money, even if it was free! Mind you, those improvements were top-notch ;) Hey! You should have a crack at building an engine some time in your lathe! You would break the internet like Kim Kardashian!

I came from China, and this reminds me of my hometown and childhood. At the period of time in 90's, there were huge amounts of tractors used at my place called Fujian. When I hear the licker engine running, the sound was familiar and touching.

Dave Micolichek some did..... I believe Fairbanks Morse had some flame lickers could be wrong. I know I’ve seen at least one. Could even be a locally produced tractor using what was on hand. There are Hit and miss tractors 2 stroke 4 stroke Steam List goes on .......lanz bulldog tractors used a concept very similar to flame lickers

Miniature old time engine, so cool! I love this kind of stuff.
Simple and clever. You always surprise us with your presentations!
Ignore the comments. This little engine is great as a conversation piece at the table with friends and a learning tool. Nice work.
Incredible, just incredible. Not surprised you were able to improve it lol, I am addicted to this channel. Thank you.

Small adjustments make a lot of difference for an improvement in performance. I miss working on motors, but unfortunately, my country is in a deep financial crisis and we have to work hard, I do not have more free time. Do you intend to improve the speed of this engine? I have some tips that can help because I know a video of a Japanese who made a homemade engine that reaches speeds of 1200 rpm or more. Leandro Wagner.

Hi Leandro it's been a while. That's really sad news because you were doing a wonderful job with Stirling engines. I still watch your videos from time to time. As for the engine, I guess better cooling (cylinder water jacket) would give it some speed. What would you suggest in my case?

Just curious, but if you lubricate the spinning connections and maybe make smaller but more dense flywheels from scratch would that help?

It's amazing how many natural gas generators we could build cause most usa households have 1 or 2 push mowers in the garage that don't work .
These engines are actually vacuum driven, the power stroke is the collapsing of the super heated gas in a flame. So they work way better the colder the piston walls are.
This is wonderful, thank you.
How cool is this?!! Would love to see one of these as a 4 cyl boxer style.
This is silly clever stuff. I like these little engine gizmo's that look like a home tinkerer's dream. Thanks for posting.

I love how the engine is in ryhtm with the music
Excellent job, well presented.
Very interesting video. I really liked it and it was quite satisfying to watch. Keep up the good work!
what a nice sound to sleep to
So the suction created by the flame in the cylinder when the valve closes is enough to make the piston cycle forward again. And the centrifical force of the flywheels is enough to pull the piston back. Thus as long as there is flame there is power. Not sure you could squeeze much torque out of one of these engines based on the fact that all power is generated from suction though.
Thats gotta be the coolest Steam Punk i've seen yet. Whoap, out of balance, easy fix.
very nice engine and fine tuning.
I bought a 4 stroke and did alot of stuff to make it run good, still pretty raw looking but maybe one day ill round out all the edges and polish everything
I was about to ask for the parts list or drawings. Then I saw the link, followed it, saw the price tag and got a heart attack...now I forgot about what I was to ask.
I'd love to see you building one of this motors.

Its "A vacuum engine" thats working on a similar principle to a Stirling engine.
Nice Engine :). Sounds like Ursus C-330
Would you know where I could find detailed plans with parts list and dimensions to build a motor like this
after watching some of your videos i need to get a lathe to make some motors :)
I have this engine I have a video up with it and it has the same problems but won't even run before warming up. Great work on improvement!
I noticed that you re-installed the valve cover (top of head) 180 degrees around as the slit(?) in the valve cover is to the bottom instead of top, in your re-assembled machine. Any particular reason for this, and what is the point in the slit anyhow?
The nitro engine in the background
Very interesting wow. That’s so cool
Nice project carry on
Good job like everything
Nice! Still enjoying watching your videos man! Keep up the good work! Any updates on the Tesla project?
I really like flame licker engines. I have a flam licker engine kit "made in germany" that is a lovely learning tool - but very temperamental as I have to adjust it every single time I want to run it. That would be a great step up for me, as this engine looks why more robust.
thanks
3:43 VTEC just kicked in yo!
very cool , thumbs up !
Thanks for the video, I was seriously looking at one of these because of the center crank & twin flywheels, its a shame the flywheels aren't true & you had to work on a very rough slide valve area, for the price...i think i'll just stay with a PMR #3 solar engine, they seem to run much easier & better.
Extremely satisfying watching you improve that
Yay for "external combustion".
I have heard that running this engine for long enough will cause it to stop working because of a weak vacuum. Do you think cooling this down with ice or something would keep the chamber colder to the point where it would significantly increase the force of the vacuum, and therefore, rpm?
Any reason that screw to the bottom right of the little bar that shifts up and down is partially unscrewed? I assume it was from working on the engine. Great job!
Basically an atmospheric steam engine.
You have a good know how to make of mechanic to improve the machine
the cooling effect of the fins make the sealed gasses contract, pulling the piston.
Next step build 6 of them on a common crank for a small rc boat
I see your next project in the back. :)
Treat your engines right, and they will work better than intended. Give em that caring treatment, fix em up nice if they are roughed up. Keep up maintenance. Give em the works.
This thing sounds better than my car
I see throttle control in the future!
Congratulation! I like Very much! 😃👍
Would you do one by yourself? A bit bigger or smaller maybe with some changes and application of this engine
Please help! I'm trying to build something similar. What did you use for bearings? Thank you for making this awesome engine. Cheers!
JohnnyQ90 Which "Optimum" turning lathe model you have?
how much torque do those sorts of things put out? i can see that they have a decent amount of speed, but everything looks preetty frictionless, so there isnt much resistance. could you run something off one of them, or are they just cool novelties?
Good job👌
Dayum, the flywheels were toast
the center of the flywheels were way off too. but cool little engine.
Ever think of changing to a water jacketed cylinder with a steam relief stack? Bet it would run as long as it had water to cool the hot gas, and fuel for the flame.
merci
nice I like it.
You should have made it power something like a mini car
Legal, um belo trabalho
essa ideia de motor a vapor e bem bolada
All their products are like that I find myself fine tuning everything also
This is like a nice kids internal combustion engine project kit
that's the first thing I thought was to machine the wheels round. you should add a little oil to the cylinder and piston walls.. cool video btw and good music score and filming!

Could you use the engine to power something like a toy boat? Just for kicks. I've seen videos where an toy boat is powered by a homemade engine that uses thermal exchange. Thumpers or knockers something like that.
@therandomman6647

No, it's too heavy and vacuum engines are only 5% efficient and a car engine is 40% efficient so not enough power.
This sounds better than Honda.
I like thus Engine...run it so long that the Engine bloß up🤣😂
I have one just like this, but I can't seem to keep a good flame. I use alcohol but the Wick just goes out. Any suggestions?
Que pasaria si se baña en aceite el cigueñal? Habria menos desgaste? Mas durabilidad y velocidad? Me gustaria hacer uno pero con el cigueñal en un carter
Not actually a stirling engine though, not sure why the ad claims it is. Its a vaccum compression engine. Completely different principle
Coolest thing ever!
Really inspiring channel! Good video! Question about this engine, how many Watt could one derive from it with a dynamo, ballpark figure? Cheers!
Pretty dam cool man.
I need that!
this thing would be fast for small RC's
ahh, i see, it runs off the cooling of air. to start off, the valve's open and that lets hot air in, then it closes and the air cools and contracts bringing the cylinder forward. The inertia of the flywheels bring the cylinder back and open the valve ready for another cycle
@-danR

I don't think that's the complete answer though. The intake cycle is pulling _partially_ burning hydrocarbon vapor and the port closes just before the piston reaches the far end. I think the vapor continues to burn and give the piston an extra bit of shove through the remaining ~20 degrees of cycle to the end. This hypothesis could be tested by using super-hot air coming through a tube; this could be done by wrapping a copper tube in a helix, heating it red-hot over a large burner flame and blowing through the other end of the tube with the outlet near the intake port.

Im wondering, is the big scale model and, 6 cylinder engine, could power a mini car ??
well, i know what im gonna used that for: Infinite Energy Self-Operate Sharpener Spinning mini-Fan Blade
so how does swallowing flames made the machine rotate
