Chinese Diesel Heater Dismantle & Remove Soot [How to]

Фильм және анимация

These cheap diesel heaters are brilliant but they can be over heated and soot up at times... Best thing to do is give them a blast on full heat before turning them off (which we did) but this over heated due to having a box put in front of it by accident!
So we had to disassemble the heater to get inside and clean out the soot build up and thought this video would be helpful for people it may happen to in the future! (Fingers crossed it doesn't but easily fixed if it does lol)
If you don't have your heater yet, here's the link to the one we have. We highly recommend them :) amzn.to/2CM1EB2

Thanks for the video. Was helpful when pulling mine apart. Mine was failing to start after 2 years and had a fault code for "Ignition" I took mine apart thinking it would probably be sooted up as well. Turns out it was spotless I replaced the Glow Plug (Purchased from Aliexpress) and away it went. Ours is installed in an out building running on solar power with 24Volt Batteries. We use it every day and we run ours quite high. As a suggestion for tank filling, I installed my tank on a TV Swing arm wall bracket which allows you to swing it away from the wall and not have to worry about spilling diesel. I highly recommend these little heaters.

I found an old receipt for a wire break repair a new gasket and a clean out for my eberspacher diesel heater, it was £120.00, the price of a new Chinese copy. It was done well before I purchased the van. Now I will be able to service it myself, cheers! I also have two dogs and hairs accumulate very quickly. I'm thinking of making a large filter out of a large stainless mesh strainer that I can remove and clean but have fitted when dogs are in the van to stop hairs from gathering and getting sucked into the fan wearing it out potentially. Just an idea I though you may like :)

@@TheBoondockers Keep an eye on fuel usage for me please, if you don't mind. Just to compare the difference. Heating the same air repeatedly is what makes them efficient plus gives the thermostat a true reading of van temps so it can reliably keep it regulated. Sucking cold air in constantly making the heater work on max constantly may help with soot but burn it out quicker. Mell has done similar but unless he tests fuel efficiency, moisture readings and thermostatic function and compares with normal fitting then it's not a true comparison and I will not be convinced. You on the other hand have it done correctly so taking notes plus observations before and after the change over would be more reliable if you do it right with an unbiased approach. Smoke tests don't really prove much. One night I left my hygrometer outside for an hour and it read over 90% moisture in the air, my van read less than 80% if I can remember right and it had no heating on, with heating on it dropped to 55% quickly so why would i want to bring in above 90% moisture from outside continuously as I really do think it's counter productive? Yours and Mells are not fully outside the van but even so it will cause a slight vacuum and pull it through the seals or any vents if there is any. This set up in dry warm weather would probably fine but in that weather I like to open windows. An old saying, don't open your windows on a days you would not hang your washing out to dry. I think it's fine though lol to let cooker, bath or shower steam out plus excessive heat. Hot air can hold more moisture so a 10 min opening of a window a few times a day to let this moisture laden air out is good but no need to over do it. Here's the fitting instructions for an eberspacher. www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/Eberspacher_Airtronic_D2_Technical_Manual.pdf Read: 4 Operation and function. And here's some more handy info for a 2.2kw heather to give you an idea. I hope some of this info may be useful to you guys. Automatic settings Boost High Med Low Standby. Thanks for the video. Same thing happened to mine after only using it a few days. I think a few things I am going to change. First I am going to change how my air intake and exhaust are routed to make them have less bends so the air flows easier, I heard if there is a lot of bends this makes the machine work harder for air and therefore not burn as clean. I think the pipes are too narrow in design and constrict air flow, so making them as short as possible and less bends is best. I need to do a little mix of kerosene in the fuel to make up for the altitude since I am in Denver and the air is thinner here. Then the other advice about changing the glow plug and running it on high seem helpful and since I am in a small van so I run on low settings, I will take the advice below and go into setting and put in password and change the fan to the lowest it'll go, and set the minimum fuel to around 1.4hz 1.6hz. I have also very short fuel line in my set up so I do not need a lot of hertz. Finally I have not taken mine apart yet to clean it, but looking at the video I bet after wire bushing it down one could spay some carburetor cleaner in there to remove more soot. At the same time maybe just burning it on high will do the same thing.

Need around 40 BTU's per square foot of space you want to heat. The smaller one 2KW (6,000 BTU's) would be good for around 150 square feet (if insulated). Most vans are only going to be around 110 square feet or less so the larger ones would have very short run times and the burn chamber will soot up and you will have to take it apart to clean it. Need to size what you want to heat up so it works properly. If you put one that is too big for your van or camper it will soot up. Ones that are too big for where you are using it will shut off to fast before the burn chamber can get good and hot to burn off any soot.

I refiited heater yesterday and put it near back doors also lifted it up by building a box for heater to sit on, which has made it so much more accessable, Now I think it would take me an hour to remove dismantle clean and put back in, assembled. They are well worth the money and a lifechanger in cold temps wink wink amazon link in description on how to install chinese heater vid ;-)

I am not looking at achieving living room temperature, but during the frosty days of the winter it would be nice to run a fairly simple heating system like this one just to bring the temperature up to maybe 10-15 C. So far I have used a 5KW kerosene burner/heater but being a flue-less heater I get problems with condensation, which in time leads to rust on tools etc. Any advice will be highly appreciated mate.

You really should replace the internal gasket in the burn chamber when resembling the heater. You can just see the inner gasket in place at 8:30. He used a steel wire brush to scrape out the chamber so unless he removed the gasket, here is a likelihood that it was damaged during this process. Any gas leak through a torn gasket could have fatal consequences.

I have two of them installed in my RV for remote job locations. I get great results cleaning mine by running pure Jet-B fuel through them for about 15-20 minutes every few weeks or so if used on a low setting for long periods. Jet B is a naphtha-kerosene fuel. A blend of approximately 30% kerosene and 70% gasoline. But be warned, it can turn the exhaust cherry-red, so don't burn it for a long time and don't walk away from it. It will clean the burn chamber up like new. It's available here in the US, and on my job pretty much unlimited. Not sure if you can get it in the UK? Great video! Wow! That was a lot of soot! great video, but you missed out a lot of important bit's,, the biggest worry is you never mentioned that is you remove the burner tube you MUST fit a new gasket's every time you strip it out! if you don't you will end up getting carbon monoxide forced into the fresh hot air outlets and if you have gone as far as stripping out the unit then why did you not fit a burner screen or glow plug screen to help it burn cleaner? you can buy 10 of them off flea-bay for about £2, so there as cheap as chip's but they make a massive difference to how the heater fire's up and run's soot free, just as a point of interest,, all ways give your heater a good blast through running on full throttle for about an hour every month or so to help burn out any soot build up as soot is the killer of the diesel heaters as is dirty diesel! stay warm in winter all the best mike

Any thoughts on adding, oh say, 5% gasoline to the diesel to get a little hotter cleaner burn? I'd think only 5% shouldn't create an explosive danger. The resulting decrease in lubricity might damage the fuel pump though.

you can also throw in some petrol (10 - 15%) if its summer grade diesel or very old red diesel that will have lost its ""get up and go!"" the added petrol will give the dead diesel back its ""get up and go so its not so get up and gone!"" and the heater will also burn a little hotter so less soot build up,, ps in the arctic were the temperature is as low as -100*f +, we added petrol at 50/50% to "special winter fuel" because it still did not like burning?

Ok Barrie is cool and looks like we are using cheap FUEL Then they will Carbonise .i tend to use hi grade v power diesel or BP Ultimate . These two fuel's will reduce the carbon emissions on to the Heat sinks using cack fuel will mess them up faster than you realise Yes you can fit the German Glow plugs to them ADVISE YOU DO THIS if it's going to be running for long duration's i am a Commercial Rescue mechanic and i have two of these cheap shit copy's one is rated at 2kw the other is 5kw . truth be told the 5 kw does not pump out 5kw like claimed max i have seen on the out put is about 3.25 kw from it . Both units are now over 1000 hours run time and still work .but they are loud much louder than the German Counter parts take my advise spend the money buy the German Models . both units are on there second fuel pumps .Good luck .EGR cleaner is much better than Scrape the unit.
