Chinese astronauts dock with Tiangong space station | DW News

A Chinese spacecraft carrying three people has docked successfully with the country's new space station. The Shenzhou-12 rocket blasted off blasted off about six hours earlier to take part in a three-month mission to set up experiments and prepare for a series of space walks. This latest mission is considered a significant step forward in establishing Beijing as a major player in space.
For the next three months, the crew of three will live in a module slightly larger than a city bus, carrying out experiments, going on space walks, and preparing the station for completion next year.
China’s space agency will be monitoring the astronauts to see how they handle the time away from Earth.
China's space program is mostly homegrown. The United States Congress forbade NASA from cooperating with China ten years ago. It cited concerns over the Chinese space program's secretive nature, and its connections to the military.
The International Space Station, launched in 1998, has hosted astronauts from over a dozen different nations - but for China, it's off limits.
Beijing's response? We'll build one ourselves. While the ISS reaches the end of its lifespan, China plans to complete its station by next year. And when it does, it will be in a position to decide who can come aboard.
While there's still work to be done on the space station, China is already looking ahead to its next project, a proposed lunar base that it's planning together with Russia.

Is it not strange that the ccp can put a perfect space station up without decades of development the first time, land a rover on mars the first time, simply outstanding. But wait considering they have zero ethics and copy, steal or buy stolen property, reverse engineer what ever they can from children's toys to Russian aircraft and apparently space stations to mars rovers. Just be sure to smile when you look up.

@@DZ477 I think he is right from my general experience as a Chinese. The Chinese education system is quite enthusiastic about STEM, though we still have to work hard in many fields such as fundamental theoretical studies and chip systems, we are generally catching up fast. Also in China government career has nothing to do with your field, no matter your degree is about art or science, as long as you are at the proper education level, and(much much more importantly) your service in the current position is best among your peers, then you have a good chance for promotion. The whole procedure is a kind of selection rather than election, so you need much more to work rather than to talk&show, and the latter generally could be the advantage of Law or Politic students in western systems, yet it does not mean much in ours. So I guess the two systems are quite different :P both have their pros and cons.

@@notsure7046 Well my friend I'm not sure whether you are from China or not, but first I must say the Secular Culture in China make sure that few things will be taken as sacred as a "religion", and we use it only because it's useful. In the 17th century, the Chinese Qing empire paid no attention to science and technology when its GDP was beyond 1/3 of the whole world, and that was the beginning of the century of humiliation. The previous is just some facts but not arguments to your points, my friend, because I totally agree with you that Philosophy, Art along with Law, etc, these are all crucial to humankind, but the things that we need to catch up and develop with the highest priority, are the fields of STEM. The reason is simple: we have strong confidence in our own culture along with its philosophy and value system. It may be surprising for westerns to know that China is the longest-lasting civilization on the planet, and our core value today is definitely not from anywhere but our own motherland. In fact, any children that take good education in China will get a general knowledge of our 5k-year-history, and of course will know about the great figures throughout the history with their philosophy thoughts, values, and opinions for governing. We also have a general mindset of tolerance and learning from other civilizations, but I think we have 100% confidence in our own. Children may take different fields in universities, but most of them have taken the education of culture before that, during the procedure of memorizing countless Chinese ancient poems and articles, feeling the process of the long-long history, and participating in all kinds of traditional arts in China, all related to the Whole name of "Chinese Culture". You may not be familiar with these, but indeed they are all great treasures for all mankind and I think with the development of China and more people like me, the world will know more and more. So in a nutshell I want to say YES that Philosophy and Humanities are crucial for any country or region, but NO that China is not putting STEM beyond anything else. In our culture, the essential part is called "Yin&Yang", which implies that nothing should go extreme and exclude the others, just like science and art are two different ways of understanding the world, and they support and in some ways guide each other's development. We are enthusiastic about science because we know we still have to work hard towards the top level, and we ARE providing our kids with proper education in art and philosophy because that's part of our proud culture. After all, I am a physics student but in a Ph.D. program, so I guess maybe there isn't too long distance between Art&Sci. :)

Very smooth docking after the Shenzhou-12 launch, congratulations for this new milestone space mission. After lunar landing and mars landing programmes , it’s very inspiring to say that China get every planned space mission done successfully and 100% independently by using barely 1/10 of NASA’s yearly budget and expenditures. I’m indeed amazed by their solid and super fast progress as a later mover, well done 👍. Now I’m expecting the planned spacewalk mission and launches of other supplemental modules and cargo spacecrafts.
