Yo, Ren somehow convinced Chinchilla to try busking. The gal who opened for Sting on a world tour was terrified of busking. She said she loved it & it was very freeing for her. 💜 I’m so glad Ren dragged her along! 😀

I loved that part of her interview with Chris L. And he asked her if she liked performing at concert or busking better and after thinking for a minute, she said busking. She’s seems like such a pro at improvising performance hopefully she gets a chance to go again!

I feel that….I’ve played arenas and stadiums and I’m terrified to busk too…I think it’s partly why I’m fascinated by it.

Party's over and I'm still here sleeping under the coffee table ... Somebody SHARPIED ... " YO !!! " on my forehead. Some of our friends are dicks !!! Wouldn't have it any other way.

Personally, I think performers as accomplished as Ren and Chinchilla know when they need to hit the precise notes, and when dancing around them can make a piece more compelling. (Chinchilla goes sharp once in How To Be Me, as well, but it WORKS). Here, when she slides up to that opening note, it gives it an emotional rawness that a clean entry would have lacked.

Some singers sing sharp on purpose…..like Billy Corrigan or Ozzy…..I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was better that way for chinchilla but it’s not a big deal….if it was studio she would’ve done it again I’m sure….but live I’d rather someone who goes for it and fails than someone who plays it safe and hits it accurately.

Some super interesting tidbits in your video - I don't think I'll ever hear that la-sol-do device in music after this without hearing 'la, sol, doooooooooo' in my head. Because it's everywhere in modern Western music (probably elsewhere too, but Western music is the stuff I'm properly familiar with). I've seen this busking video once before - I'm glad they settle into a fuller groove after the first bit, the stripped-down part wasn't working for me (like, in the way I've come to *anticipate* Ren and Chinchilla's music - solo or collab - to come together. Ambitious undertaking to take a Marvin Gaye song down to the ultra bare basics for a verse!) In the end, it turns into something pretty amazing.

That sequence is in any uplifting guitar solo as well….I really like it even though it’s everywhere….when I learned solfège I started hearing that sequence everywhere. As for intro….I didn’t really like the spring reverb on their voices and I found it distracting….but they are using equipment that runs on batteries….can’t be too critical. :).
