China’s Tourism Industry Is Finished, Xiamen Has Turned into a Ghost City

This was once Xiamen, a beautiful coastal garden city that was a top choice for both domestic and international tourists. The city used to be bustling, from the snack streets to the beachfronts.
But now, Xiamen's streets are almost empty of tourists, and even locals are rare to see. This once popular tourist city is ending in a very bleak way.

Patriotism of Xinnie PorkPooh #slopagandpa - With stimulus and measures, China's debt will be at 400% to 500% of its GDP in the next decade, according to Reuters. -Chinese 🇨🇳 property Ponzi sector, which accounts for 30% of GDP, is crashing -Tofu Exports and Western imports, accounting for 37% GDP, are down. -Foreign investment is falling over 90% compared to it's peak in 2018. -Foreign visitors are down 96% compared to the pre-pandemic level in 2019 with less than 200 americans left. -Consumer prices are experiencing hyperstagdeflation. -Youth unemployment hits over 21% (in reality 50%+ after eliminating faked numbers), a record. -It's fast shrinking workforce is 10 years old than neighboring countries. - During the years 1990-2021, the US printed 6.5 time more money while China printed 147 times. - It has printed more money than the US and Japan combined, while it's economy is only half of them. - Current Chinese debt-to-gdp is already highest in the world, at 300%, according to Bloomberg. - This is a macroeconomic nightmare created by the party going way back in 1994 when they took the Tofu money off the international exchange. Now in 2024, the banks and the average little pink have no idea what is the ACTUAL value of anything within the country. Any stimulus from the Central state. will be meaningless and ineffectual because the Central Bank is a part of the Party. Thereby merging both fiscal Central and monetary private policies into one ongoing disaster. Local province officials were doing stimulus spending for decades in tandem of the "Economic Miracle" which will undermine any Central stimulus during an actual depression/recession or more accurately.. HYPERSTAGDEFLATIONARY NIGHTMARE. -- in the future house prices will drop to 10%, youth unemployment will be over 70%+ without streams, and middle class people over 35 will all be laid off. How will you do in a country where real estate companies, local governments, and banks across China have crashed or fled? That is your challenge for the future (will you own a trash house with the mortgage?). Pensions will be laundered and your daily pay will be 2 dollars. Real estate companies go bankrupt ⇒ Real estate prices plummet ⇒ Revenues, which account for 30% of local government finances, disappear ⇒ Local governments, which have been using debt to develop large cities and build huge infrastructure, become unable to repay their huge debts and go bankrupt ⇒ Civil servants are fired and have their salaries cut ⇒ Ordinary citizens also lose their jobs and have their salaries cut ⇒ Real estate loans and car loans become unable to be repaid ⇒ Bank funds that were lent to real estate companies, local governments, lending platforms, and home loans disappear and banks go bankrupt ⇒ Unemployment reaches over 60% and pensions go bankrupt ⇒ We are back to a life of $2 a day

Maybe that is exactly the reason why the CCP want Taiwan take back. This would mask the terrible conditions in mainland China for a while. There would be certainly attemts to transfer the know-how of the Taiwanese chip industry to China. But it would be like it was in Hong Kong...this would work for a few years but eventually the CCPs iron grip would deprive the Taiwanese of their air to breathe...and ultimately, the CCPs regime would also succeed in ruining the chip industry in Taiwan.

In all seriousness though, remember that it's possible channels like this one are incentivised to try to spin a narrative and cater to the biases of certain audiences. While it's possible there are some cities economically suffering, it's possible some cities/industries are in boom times that isn't getting coverage. It's possible that EV exports and Russian/Ukraine war exports are compensating for these tourism droughts.

It's really too bad, I think I am like a lot of other people who admire the Chinese people and wanted to travel there for years but it seems dangerous and not worth the hassle now that things have deteriorated for tourists. Might be better off going to less risky countries.

I mean, hasn't this been going on in every city in China since...forever? The first time I visited Beijing in 2007 I did a Great Wall "tour" that included a long stop at a jewelry shop and a really crappy lunch.

All of the economic policies issued by the government mentioned at the 15:15 point forward doesn't address the root problems in the economy. They're all initiatives to increase Government Spending NOT initiatives to encourage increases in Consumer Spending which will NOT happen if there's a net decrease in Consumer Incomes. Big differences. Plus a net reduction of consumer spending & income will mean a net reduction of government income from business taxes and consumer taxes. Less money movement means less taxation means less government income. Where are they gonna get the cash to pay for those government spending initiatives? Print more money? That will only decrease the value of the currency in the long term and is only a (very) short term bandaid fix that won't last long.

That only works for small items. The Chinese have no place to put their money. Most people “invested” in real estate. Others bought stocks. Those “investments” lost their money. Others put their money in banks. A lot of banks went broke and others won’t let you withdraw money.

That's sad. Xiamen a favorite of mine when I visited China. It's a shame when 1 person ruins it for everyone. Not everyone in China is trying to rip you off (most of the places I went to were decent people and quite friendly). I would say most of them are just folks trying to make a living. Unfortunately this was 8 years ago for me. That's probably enough time for many things to change.
