China’s Gilded Age

June 1, 2020: China’s Gilded Age
Why has China grown so fast for so long despite vast corruption? Will corruption lead to the CCP’s collapse? In “China’s Gilded Age: the Paradox of Economic Boom & Vast Corruption”, Yuen Yuen Ang challenges the assumption that all corruption impedes economic growth. By unbundling corruption into four distinct varieties, Ang demonstrates that the type of corruption that prevails in China - what she calls access money (elite exchanges of wealth and power) - has stimulated investment and growth but produces serious risks for the economy and political system. More information can be found here: sites.lsa.umich.edu/yy-ang/ch.... Yuen Yuen Ang discussed her new book with UC San Diego Professor Victor Shih in this webinar.

Can't wait to read it. I've read ur previous book on how China escaped poverty n it's impressive. Such an eye opener. Puts a shame really to some so called "experts" who arrogantly and stupidly boasted that China growth would not be sustainable due to its "extractive" characteristic.
