And yes you also have a point that countries usually don't shares valuable data which is justified cause every country wants to increase its influence and power by utilising data it gathered. Actually, One of the first indications of water on the moon came from the analysis of samples returned by the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s. While no liquid water was found, the samples contained trace amounts of water molecules that were chemically bound to the minerals in the moon rocks. In 2009, NASA's Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission detected water on the moon. The spacecraft intentionally crashed into a permanently shadowed crater near the moon's south pole, which caused a plume of material to rise up. Spectral analysis of the plume showed the presence of water molecules. Everyone new about water on the moon for a long long time. Chinese did not discover anything new. of the first indications of water on the moon came from the analysis of samples returned by the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s. no one knows the exact numbers, and probably ill not know until long term missions go to moon. but at worse case, we will need to make harvesters that room the moon and mine water, all around a win. probably actual long term solution still be just mining rocks and than melting them for oxygen and other elements, that we later recombine. but in the short term, it may help the first colonies or other early missions, before turning into full colonies.

@@DK-vx5co We've known there was water in the permanently shaded areas of the moon for ~50 years, but we hadn't confirmed it being present in any sunlit areas until 2020 when the American/German SOFIA telescope detected it. Note that there was also evidence of water in sunlit areas since 2009 from India's Chandrayaan-1 lunar probe, but it wasn't entirely conclusive. China's "major new discovery" this year was finding water within microtektites contained in soil samples that were retrieved during their Chang'e 5 mission a couple years ago. That was the first successful sample-return mission in ~45 years, and they got samples from 1m deep . Maybe the previous samples weren't deep enough to have these water microtektites? Anyway, this is more about HOW the water is preserved in those areas rather than WHERE it is. Our host mentions at 2:12 that the Chinese paper begins by acknowledging substantial quantities of water being found across the moon's surface over the last couple decades. The paper is about their discovery of water within the tiny glass beads or 'microtektites' as they call them.

I think one of the most challenging aspects of enabling humans to live under a variety of conditions is that of maintaining good health. Based on how the present "conventional" medical services treat symptoms it appears that humanity will need to develop pretty quickly advanced AI tools and sensors to provide competent and effective health management.

There is a not well understood process on the Moon involving static electricity. The regolith gets a static charge and levitates above the ground for a period of time as the day/night terminator moves around the surface. This could expose more regolith to the solar wind, enhancing the collection of atomic hydrogen. It could also present problems to colonists and their equipment.

Kyle, I've seen you on another space-related video questioning if the voiceover is a real person. For the last time, it's very clearly a real person. AI voices are really easy to tell apart for people in my generation, but I don't know your age. Just don't discredit these videos just because you incorrectly think they're AI generated...

@@mythrin I don’t know what you’re talking about, I don’t remember ever asking that question before. I asked because there was one part where he pronounced a word in a way that I thought sounded strange. And I ask out of curiosity alone. It’s a legit question, and I’m not insinuating anything about the quality or validity of the video. It’s a fantastic video, and I’m a loyal subscriber. I honestly would not care if it was synthesized, which is very possible with today’s technology. I can provide an example if you want. Furthermore, I would actually think it was quite cool if it was synthesized. The only person who could answer my question is the maker of the video, not you.
